I thought it about time that we Victorians had somewhere to whinge about our own State Government, instead of others whingeing about it.

And to start it off,
The Chutzpah of the Victorian Government are feeling a little miffed that they were not consulted or given any special role in the AUKUS submarine development.
But all is not lost, as the premier said he would be absolutely astounded if Victoria did not have a major role in the Aukus submarines.
After all, as he said, Melbourne is at the very centre of advanced manufacturing in our nation.

Perhaps he needs look no further than the Nuclear prohibtion act bought in by another great Labour Premier, John Cain, in 1983 to see why Victoria may have been overlooked.

Good thread Mick, surprised we didn't have a place to vent on this dog's breakfast of a State Government to date. I can't believe that we're in a minority though because people voted these areshats back in after all that happened over the past five years from red shirts, to infrastructure cost blowouts, paying not to build roads, and being responsible for hundreds of unnecessary deaths during Covid. The only explanation is that the opposition has been so disjointed and poorly led that Labor are the best out of other diabolically bad options.

The opposition was stupid enough to recycle an already failed leader who had been rejected by the voters.
No hope for Liberals, not much better for Nationals.

Yep, pretty dumb politicking. But, it's a statement of what's on offer.

The state of Victorian politics has been diabolical for some time. At the National as well really. It's been pretty embarrassing. But, that's our internal perspective. On a World scale, we're pretty high up as far as democracy and transparency, etc, politics go. There's probably a scale rating somewhere to see how we rank. We must be in the top few. We shouldn't forget that when being so critical of our system.

My theory on our lurch to the Left and failure of the Right through this cycle is that we have lived through a golden period that means we have been able to provide a welfare state, that is snowballing. But, there's a cliff coming up.

Ah the Cargo Cult where freebies just fell out of the sky.
Tis just my perspective but I think many think that because the handouts are from the Government, it has to free with no strings attached.
I know the hoops we had to jump through, well I didn't but my wife did, just to get the carer's benefit when I was injured.
Nothing was free then, and it won't be changing in a hurry.

Victorian Opposition leader John Pesutto said there would be a discussion about MP Moira Deeming's place in the Liberal Party after she was linked to an anti-transgender rally associated with neo-Nazis in Melbourne on Saturday.

Mr Pesutto said the immediate focus was a party room vote where he could move to expel his party's upper house whip but this would be followed by a discussion about Ms Deeming’s place in the broader party.

“What I'm doing is a statement that we will not tolerate or ever accept any association with Neo-Nazis and white supremacists or anybody who sympathises with them," Mr Pesutto told News Breakfast.

Bunch of guys that were doing the Nazi salute were there. It was a weird rally. Basically extreme feminists teaming up with Neo Nazis against trans.

The Victorian opposition leader, John Pesutto, has accused Liberal MP Moira Deeming of “conducting activities in a manner likely to bring discredit on the parliament or the parliamentary party” in a letter warning her of his move to expel her from the party room.

In the letter of motion, provided to Guardian Australia on Tuesday, Pesutto informed Deeming he would be calling a special meeting of the Victorian Liberal party room to hold a vote next Monday to expel her. He points to two key claims:

(a) on 19 March 2023 and on days prior organising, promoting and attending a rally where Kellie-Jay Keen (also known as Posie Parker), was the principal speaker in circumstances where Ms Keen was known to be publicly associated with far right-wing extremist groups including neo-Nazi activists …

(b) on 19 March 2023, meeting with and publishing a video with Kellie-Jay Keen, Katherine Deeves and Angie Jones, and that Angie Jones, on that day posted on Twitter words that, in the mind of any reasonable and lay observer, made association with Nazis including on 4.41pm by posting the words ‘Nazis and women want to get rid of paedo filth. Why don’t you.’

Attached to the letter, which is co-signed by deputy Liberal leader, David Southwick, and the leader and deputy leaders in the upper house, Georgie Crozier and Matthew Bach, is a dossier of “evidence” supporting the allegation.

My wife, who I admit can be a little smarter than i sometimes, made the rather salient point that the men, Pesutto and the other libs, are going after the Women (Deeming and Keen), but the ones who actually did the Nazi Salute (all men) get off scott free.
She has a point.

Lets be clear The Liberal Party is after Moira Deeming becasue they believe she directed/took part in a demonstration that she knew was being very actively supported by the neo nazis. That directly connects teh Liberal party to neo-nazis. That was the critical part of Pesuttos letter to the party quoted above. He does not want the liberal party associated with Neo Nazis.

He has no control over the neo nazis. Zilch. Zero. Neither does the Labour party or the police. This is a democracy and yes there is a wide latitude given to Freedom of Speech. The Labour party and the Libs are now looking at ways of criminalizing the Nazi salute. Very tough, very difficult.

Lets be even clearer. What proof do you have that (a) it was being actively supported by Neo Nazis
(b) Deming knew it.
The videos of the incident show the Police holding back the anti Deeming forces while behind them, a bunch of white males, all dressed in black, ponce past giving Nazi salutes. Its no accident that the police ignored the boysinblack, as as least one of them has been identified as the son of a serving Vicpol member.
This whole thing reeks of a setup.
So we have a bunch of women protesting that their gender is being collapsed by another group of biological men who want to be women, who get their protest hijacked by a bunch of white men, and thus the group and its leaders cancelled by another bunch of men.
If the Age can identify one of them , why can Vicpol not do so? Given the treatment handed out to the anti vax protesters at the height of the Vic lockdowns, why the sudden reticence? Surely its not because at least one is the son of police officer?

That directly connects teh Liberal party to neo-nazis. That was the critical part of Pesuttos letter to the party quoted above. He does not want the liberal party associated with Neo Nazis.

It does no such thing, except in the minds of people who want it to be so.
It becomes a convenient way to eliminate the real issue for these women, namely the hijacking of their concerns about the demeaning of their role as a women to appease an artificial construct called gender rights, which somehow overide biological rights.

He has no control over the neo nazis. Zilch. Zero.

Exactly, and neither does Deeming or anyone else. And yet somehow they become tainted by association, even though they have no control.
