Examples of stupidity of government at all levels

In WA the Minister would overrule is that not the case there?

We do have a Land and Environment court in NSW but I am not sure of the owners situation, I posted because we had driven past the site that day and my wife commented that nothing had happened for so long

It's been the case in WA for decades my parent applied to subdivide some land off their block early 70s blocked by Mundaring Shire so appealed to the Minister and was approved.

Still very much standard practice today from what I hear.
Exactly. Had a similar scenario with the same mongerl shire about 20 years ago. wouldn't allow our sub division , but we sold out and the new owner had the joy, glee and happiness of jumping through hoops with the shire and then getting the ministerial approval. took about 2 years.

Some may remember the recent crash of the army Taipan chopper, and not the first one to crash either.
well it seems that having grounded them, the army/government have decided to dismantle then bury them.
From Skynews
The Defence Force has reportedly begun dismantling its grounded fleet of Army MRH-90 Taipan helicopters.

According to the 'Asia Pacific Defence Reporter' (APDR), the decision was signed off in secret to destroy them rather than try to sell them.

The publication suggests some expensive components such as gear boxes are being sold to New Zealand.

The dismantling process is expected to take several months, before parts are buried in what's been dubbed 'a large defence landfill site.'
What a waste.
surely they could have been onsold to a third world military dictatorship?
According to the pilots rumour network, Ukraine was keen to get their hands on the taipans but For reasons that are classified, the govt decided it was better to bury them.

Maybe sometime in the future, under freedom of information, we may find out why they couldn't be on sold or given away.
Possibly another one that has been put away in the classified "dirt draw". :roflmao:

If they have an identified flaw, then selling them to others could leave us open to lawsuits, military use or not our government seems unwilling to take the risk.

If they have had an identified flaw that was known when they were purchased, or for a very long time and nothing was said, the possibilities are endless. ;)

Maybe a cheap method of decommissioning the weapons systems?

After seeing the TV news report tonight about the Qld grandmother who was so callously murdered by 4 teenagers, I am at a loss for words. No doubt these expats from the African Continent will as usual get off scott free.
The young granddaughter who was with her has a lifetime of memory of how her grandmother was murdered.
Just to steal her car and then dump it a few streets away.
What a pity this country now longer has capital punishment to inflict upon these heroes.
But of course if a decent sum of money was stolen then justice would served.
Begger's belief.
No doubt the bleeding heart brigade will come out swinging citing, a miserable upbringing, poor childhood, misunderstood, and any other bull shyt that can be dreamed up.

Capital punishment is never ever ever justified.
We cannot allow state sanctioned killing, except if there is a war declared, end even there are some severe limitations (see genocide)..
Anything else is a slippery path down to accepting killing for other things.
Societies have fought for years to outlaw capital punishment, and it should never be bought back.
Whatever the motivation might have been for the people who murdered the unfortunate grandmother, the thought of fear of punishment would not have entered into their heads.
The USA still has capital punishment in 27 states and also federally.
And yet the US has a terrible record on murders and other crimes that may attract executuin.
It just does not work, and trashes a society's pretence at ethics and morals.

Sorry Mick on an entirely different page to you on this.
Being teenagers these scum are laughing all the way if and when they are put into detention in a juvenile centre. Just a roof over their heads and 3 meals a day and a bed.

I'm on the fence about capital punishment. I think the greater point is what sort of country we are evolving into with the seemingly indiscriminate importation of people from incongruous *cultures.

No way am I an ethno-nationalist, but I do think that we are making a grave mistake with the type of immigration we are accepting into this country.

This debate has being going on for years with the White Australia policy, Pauline Hanson's don't let the asians in etc etc.
Australia was built on immigrants, both good and bad.
We already have our own home grown murders, rapists, thieves and terrorists, many of whom are the descendants of migrants, some were the original inhabitants of the land.
The majority of immigrants, while sometimes having cultural mores that we may find difficult to comprehend, most of these cultures add something to the fabric of the life of Oz.
We are what we are thanks to taking the bits of overseas culture we like and making it part of our own.
Other things like sharia law, or men being the only family decision maker, full body Burkhas, etc we have rejected.

Mick your are conflating my comments regarding cultural congruity with race/ethnicty, which I did try to preemptively disavow.

There are cultures which can successfully intermesh with ours, despite being of different race/ethnicity and/or religious belief. But there are others that cannot.

Agree we added 160,000 criminals to the mix but I always had a question mark over Somalis largely I must admit out of ignorance.

Mick on this agree, but I don't think I will budge on an eye for an eye though. Perhaps the Singaporean birching may be the answer of from a distant past the cat o' nine tails.

And Mr sp one of the scum bag oxygen thieves was already out on bail. and of course just for good measure had a rap sheet almost as long as his arm.
And another was lt out on bail today also.
I would have thought chained to a piece of granite somewhere without shade would be appropriate.
