Mick's USA sojourn

On the subject of driving in the US.
1. Speed signs are treated as advisary. Even with limits set at 80mph, most drivers will travel at 90 or more.
2.The use of indicators when turning, changing lines or leaving a freeway for an off ramp is used vey sparingly.
3. Four way Stop signs, while seemingly impossible to negotiate at first, worked extremely well. The first driver to arrive and stops goes first, with all other divers taking their turn. Every one accepts it, and it flows.
4. The price of fuel varies enormously from State to state due to State taxes, with California being the most expensive at 6$ plus, with Utah being the cheapest at 3.11.
5. Outside of the major cities, Electric Vehicles are very much in the minority. Biiiig Trucks and SUV’s reign supreme.
6, Driving on the other side of the road is not a big deal.

Is that $6 a litre or gallon?

That sort of guy (a feeder) likes an immersive experience wherein he buries himself in female flesh and feels obliterated (someone like it explained it to me). A bit like self euthenasia.
@wayneL Here to help :)

Some might like it - otherwise many just made a decision to accept anything, rather than accept dignified solitude. The pickings are slim (no irony intended). For many it could be better than the attractive ultra-competitive A-type career woman who will usually demand someone earning more money than her etc. Some go the mail order route. Pick your poison!

Thanks for the info, we are going there in November.

In Canada the drivers were very courteous, no one drove on the speed limit but traffic flowed well, unlike here in W.A where everyone wants to be side by side to block traffic.

Fuel was $1.90/L in Vancouver, but $1.70 further away, pollution surcharge apparently.

Another interesting thing on the fuel subject, their regular fuel was 87 octane and their premium 95 octane, whereas ours is 91 through to 97 and they keep saying we have the dirtiest fuel in the world. More misinformation to drive a narrative?
There are different ways of measuring octane, 91 RON octane straight petrol/gasoline (no ethanol)is roughly equivalent to 87AKI in the USA.

Fwiw

As we conclude week eight of our USA grand National Park tour, I though I might share some of my observations so far.
It has been about six years since we were last in the USA for any length of time.
I may have already mentioned the level of obesity we have noticed.
Anecdotally, it seems that a problem that was largely confined to people over the age of 40, has spread to the ranks of the young, and more so among the gender set that used to be called female.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but the morbidly obese contestant just crowned Miss Alabama highlights how this level of obesity is becoming the norm, and more acceptable.

Seems your comment is on the money.

Rather than start another thread, I will tack onto this one, we just arrived back from an 8 week holiday, 6 cruising from Australia to Vancouver, then a couple of weeks driving through British Columbia and Alberta.
We didn't notice much difference with people's eating habits between here and there, with food similar prices to here but more taxes added on.
One thing that was noticeable was the tourists in Canada were mainly Asian and Indian also lots of them, with food being similar to here but more taxes added on and dodgy pricing they use metric but show the price of fruit in lbs and very small print.
I was caught buying grapes $6.50, then when you pay it comes up as over $13.
With regard the cruise the really notable difference was, the casino was very near empty, which is unusual on a cruise.
Like Trawlers experience, we found that there were a very higher percentage of Asian and Indian tourists at all the name spots.
Around 7 out of every 10 motels we stayed in were run by Indians of the subcontinent variety rather than Native American Indians.
“Breakfast” is free at about half the motels we stayed in.
All varying quality, but all had a waffle machine with accompanying syrup dispenser.
Coffee still tastes like **** wherever you go.
Heading over the border to California today as we enter the last two weeks of the trip.
Expect to see some Biden signs as we cross, as we have seen zero in every other state, but lost track of the counting of Trump signs everywhere else.
Outside the major cities like NYC , LA, Chicago etc, its all Trump.
Just an observation, not a call to support.

@mullokintyre Mick one could see that someone is blowing their Trumpet as you traverse the countryside.

Obesity and the USA - This has been a growing issue for a couple of decades and now we have Semaglutide and the other new GLP1 drugs (the end of obesity) etc this coincides with the acceptance phenomenon, obese people accepting their size and shape because there was nothing they could easily do about it and there were just so many obese people.

So this national acceptance has occurred at the same time as these new weight loss drugs, (last 3 or 4 years) so interesting to see how it plays out, on the subject of Trump i imagine that most of the US obesity is in the Trump states?, populations that seem to struggle with discipline and reality?

Interesting observation there, but also remember the right/conservatives are taller with the men having higher testosterone levels.

Had interesting feedback from friends in the US south on a business trip talking to state politicians / business owners on both sides and people closely connected to Trump.

They were saying the divide in private conversations is minimal both saying the same things and Trump is going to continue much of Bidens agenda if he gets in.

Of course for PR and the punters it's all out war.

Oh and as already mentioned coffee is total crap.
