ASF COVID-19 infection thread

In my street husband and wife both have it husband 1st now 7 weeks and just recovering wife at week 5 still in bed!
Both late 30's early 40's ultra fit no underlying health issues.
Both could not get tested due to narrow restrictions at the time.
Scary.

ASF members, post here if you get infected with the coronavirus.

I'm hearing mixed stories about how bad this thing actually is. It would be interesting to hear some first hand accounts.

I don't know anyone who has been infected but they are saying that the rate of infection in Australia is about to explode. Time will tell.
Seven weeks later; so far so good for Australia. Being an island helps, I suspect. NZ too.

A close mate of my son's was living in NYC, and got really scared in that early March period. He returned to Aust asap and did 2 weeks' quarantine, and thought he had dodged a bullet. At the time the virus was ripping through NY and he said he thought the spresding was coming from a supermarket on the block.

Anyway, has been a bit poorly so went to the GP. No symptoms, then or before, but just not firing on all cylinders. Referals and scans and testing later, he was informed he exhibited clotting in the neck and had a silent stroke. Mid 30's. Most likely he did have Covid-19 before he came back. So, life's changed for him. And he doesn't even show up in any statistics.

This story could be of interest to people who have friends /family affected.

Daughter and 11 year old grandson who live with us have it, the other 7 hear old wants it so he can get out of school, wife and I are keeping our distance but havent caught it yet.

Tested positive today. Two jabs, no booster. So far it is like a mild flu; joint pain, chills at night, low grade fever, mild sore throat and cough with some phlegm. That's it. I started feeling funny on Saturday night, slightly worse yesterday and worse again last night after going to bed. Today is manageable with pain killers and fluids. I hope this is as bad as it gets.

Are you getting the chills with the aches? We did and the best thing was the daughter bought us an electric throw blanket, it is the only good thing that came out of the covid for us.
Hope you get better soon Joe, we tested positive for about 8 days, but we both still have a dry cough a month later.
Annoying.

I felt cold under the covers last night and started shivering. Joint pain is minor, just mild discomfort. Cough is infrequest but there is some phlegm and congestion there. I have had cases of the flu that were at least twice as bad as this. My immune system has always been pretty good, so hopefully it will make short work of this.

I think that's as bad as it gets going off reports from work colleagues.

All those symptoms is what I got from the jabs.

Hopefully that's the end of the "compulsory sickness" era I went through just to keep my job :)

DAY 2

Last night the sore joints got worse and so did the sore throat. I took paracetamol and ibuprofen and this morning the fever has gone and the sore joints are mostly gone. The sore throat remains as does the chesty cough, which is infrequent. Still some phlegm in the cough.

If this was a case of the flu, I would say I'm 75% of the way to being completely recovered. In fact, I cannot distinguish between COVID-19 and the flu. They seem identical to me.

I've had it about 5 or 6 times now. Just annoying symptoms at this point. You can catch it pretty quickly after you have had it.

2 shots and no boosters. partner has had 4 shots and gets it pretty much the same. 2 kids under 10 don't really get it at all (no shots). Just occasional sore throat, or cough.

It's super fast turnover now. Sick for a day then a bit off. Cough can last sometimes.

DAY 3

Things have taken a turn for the worse. Yesterday a sore throat developed and it is brutal. I am finding it very hard to swallow and am using throat lozenges and a salt water gargle. I am also finding it hard to breathe deeply. Lungs feel a bit sore. Nose was blocked most of yesterday but this morning it is clear. Headache has come and gone over the last couple of days. I'm hoping this is the peak of the symptoms.

The sore throat is far and away the worst symptom so far. I had very little sleep last night.

If there's no headache you're a long way in front.
Switch between Nurofen and Panadol for the pain.
Cold air is better to breathe if possible.

Stay awake at night and sleep in the day is another suggestion.

I've had phenomena a couple of times including those "suicide" headaches and the above ideas worked for me.

Mostly it's the sore throat that is giving me grief. I drank hot tea and lemon all last night which really helped but when I went to bed it was hard. The sore throat got really sore and I needed to suck Strepsils all night to keep the throat pain at bay. Apparently a sore throat is being reported as the worst symptom of Omicron.

You can try mouthwash. Let it go deep to the point of almost drinking it. Can't remember what brand I used, but one actually bombed it.

It sounds like a different strain to what we had in W.A, we didn't get the sore throat, but we are coming over to Sydney in early October so I certainly hope whatever strain is going through has subsided.
Look after yourself Joe and keep us posted.:xyxthumbs
