Trump 2.0

Markets still in free fall wonder what the circuit breaker will be if any?

you lost me at slave labour
Isn't slave labour these days, employing people from other countries to do work that you wouldn't expect your own unemployed people to do?
I'm sure the left wing would call it that, or at least, serious exploitation. :roflmao:

One would guess there will be a heads of State meeting between the EU, UK, USA and China IMO

The U.S will try and push China to float their currency, is my guess.

Blackbirding was a pernicious practice in colonial times, when Pacific islanders were co-opted, tricked to coming to nthn aust .

Then, on "Who Do You Think You Are?" Mal Meninga said his islander forebear swam out to the ship, after not being selected, so much he wanted an adventure*. History is nuanced, and broad generalisations don't cut it.

*and married a European woman

History is nuanced and open to interpretation in many cases.

Mal Meninga was a fabulous rugby player

And South Sea Islanders are great workers.

I married an Australian woman.

so, why did you use the divisive term 'slave labour ' ?
I think I already answered that.
I feel it is demeaning to import nationals from other countries, to carry out work you wouldn't expect your own people to carry out, that is what was done with slaves by many countries throughout history.

No, the problem is you don't understand the definition of modern slavery.

As someone once told me, those who are the first to show indignation, are usually the last to show manners. ;)

As you say, back to Trump.

He was having a go at me, so I'm sure he will handle a bit in return.

To think that exploitation isn't going on is not facing reality, excusing it is where the problem lies.

I just got rid of my gun in the buyback, but the son has a few. Lol Maybe your brother would like to meet him, they may share a common interest.

Dona's travels were a great read, I suggested he write a book, but that doesn't mean I can't defend what I write, I would expect him to do the same if I critiqued what he wrote.

Really ? Are you seeing what is happening now with Trumps takeover of the US and destruction of world trade with this trade war as something that will help your grandkids have a better future ?

I agree that our economic systems were going to hell in a handbasket. But I struggle to see how what is evolving now is just creating an economic disaster for (almost) everyone.
From your Guardian.

Here’s one key thing you should know about Trump’s shock to the world economy: it could work

Maybe.

Burning bushland stimulates regrowth, what the long term affects are are uncertain.

The darker side of Trump are his designs on Canada and Greenland. If he really tries to take those over by coercion or force, then that would be a serious breach of ethics and order, and even if they succeeded would likely only last for the length of his term.

Also if Russia or China, or both come over the Arctic and take Greenland and Canada, that would be a serious breach of ethics and order also, life is full of ifs.

You don't expect invasions by democracies.
I would be very surprised if there is one by a democracy, the media can talk it up as much as they like.
It will be interesting to see how Canada and Greenland go if Russia and or China have a go, they should be asking Ukraine for some tips, because it is more likely they will use Canada and Greenland to attack the U.S if it all comes to a head. ;)
I noticed today in the papers they are starting to infer Trumps tariffs might actually do what we have been talking about. What a surprise, all the wailing and bed wetting starts slowing down. :roflmao:
