Good evening champions,
Well then, wonders never cease to amaze ... beloved Cowboys convincingly beat The Storm 45 points to 20 at home. rcw1 was at the game, not quite a full house and witnessed a completely different team to what had been subjected to ... oh what a difference a week makes !!! Anyways, plenty to do yet... As at 7.53pm 04/06/23 with Panthers up 18 points all against St George and 13 minutes to go in 2nd half, the table is as follows:

Queensland coach Billy Slater has made three changes to the team for game two of the State of Origin series, (at Suncorp Stadium on June 21); all forced upon the Maroons due to injury. Gold Coast prop Moeaki Fotuaika, Melbourne winger Xavier Coates and North Queensland second-rower Jeremiah Nanai have earned recalls for the showdown with NSW at Suncorp Stadium on June 21.
They replace Jai Arrow (syndesmosis), Selwyn Cobbo (hip) and Tom Gilbert (shoulder surgery ) who were members of the 17 who beat NSW 26-18 in game one in Adelaide.

AJ Brimson has been named 18th man after his excellent return from injury for the Titans.

Good evening
A couple of things for mine:

Would have selected Felise Kaufusi for Queensland even after finishing a three-match NRL suspension. Unless there is something unaware of other than lacking match fitness, thinking Kaufusi got the raw end of the stick on this occasion. Mind you Nanai and Fotuaika will certainly do the job for Queensland.

Would have selected Adam Reynolds as the NSW half back. A no brainer really .... except for Freddy and co... they believe otherwise,
Oh Moses can play, no doubt about that, but what Reynolds could have delivered overall, and as a Maroons supporter, very happy to see he isn't in the NSW team directing the plays. Not sure why NSW would go that that path leaving Reynolds out. Although have heard, Phil Gould's personal choice is Mitchell Moses!!! He probably knows a thing or two about rugby league!!!

Gotta feel for Nicho Hynes. Hope he gets another opportunity.

The turf war between the Broncos and Dolphins has exploded with Wayne Bennett’s coached new franchise stealing the Brisbane feeder-club. News Corp has revealed today (15/06/23), reigning Queensland Cup Premiers Norths Devils, have severed ties with the Broncos and signed a $2 million, four-year affiliate deal with NRL market rivals the Dolphins until the end of 2027.

Devils bosses informed Broncos chief executive Dave Donaghy of their decision on Wednesday night.

The Devils’ shock defection means the Dolphins have taken over Brisbane’s entire northern development area and turned up the heat on the Broncos in the territorial battle for the city’s best talent.

Norths Devils played a key role in turning Billy Slater, Cameron Smith, Greg Inglis and Cooper Cronk into NRL and Origin stars in the early 2000s. Current Dolphins players Kodi Nikorima, Jarrod Wallace, Tom Gilbert and Sean O’Sullivan have played Queensland Cup or junior grades with the Norths Devils.

Interesting development, that Norths Devils catchment area in Brisvagus is huge.

Some news:

Latrell Mitchell out of the Blues team for 2nd SoO; Stephen Crichton to come back into the team. For mine he was pretty much NSW's best players in the 1st SoO.

West Tigers 1/2 back, Luke Brooks won't be going to the Cowboys. Cowboys coach Todd Payten has ruled out a play for off-contract halfback Luke Brooks and reaffirmed his commitment to Chad Townsend for 2024.

Shane Flanagan named as the St George Illawarra head coach on a three-year deal starting from 2024.

Also,
Bookies have Queensland at $2.25 head-to-head for the first State of Origin to be played in Adelaide on 31 May. rcw1 will take them odds any day of the week and some... madness ... bookies dreaming.

For the 2nd SoO Queensland are favourites at $1.46 head to head with NSW at great odds of $2.80.
rcw1 has coin on Qld. Go the Maroons... Wednesday 21 June 8.05pm kick off.

At Qld Country Bank Stadium to watch beloved Cowboys v Panthers game.

Curtain raiser is an ‘All Abilities’ Townsville Blackhawks v Mackay Cutters game. Great to see kids with disability playing an abridged version of the game.

Have a very nice weekend

Good evening

Pencil in, Saturday 2 March 2024 into your calendars.

The NRL is set to broker a 10-game deal in America after US authorities backed plans for the Telstra Premiership to kick-off the 2024 season in Las Vegas in early March.

Sport Confidential can reveal March 2 is the historic date the NRL is proposing for rugby league’s double header in Sin City.

ARL Commission boss Peter V’landys is finalising precise schedules with American stakeholders, but the NRL is considering kick-off times of 5pm and 8pm on Saturday evening in Vegas.

That would mean the NRL’s American double header is screened from 11am and 2pm (AEDT) on Sunday, March 3 to fans in Australia.

The times have yet to be formally locked in pending final negotiations with broadcasters, but March 2 is the target date for the NRL’s bold Vegas venture that will be billed as ‘Australia Week’ in America.

Nice

Good morning

The Rugby League Players Association (RLPA) announced on Wednesday that NRL players would not fulfil media obligations on match days due to an ongoing pay / award dispute with the governing body. Ban only includes days when matches are being played.
Hmmmmmmmmmm

Not sure how that one will go... media commitments might well be a contractual commitment, not sure... thinking so anyways.

RLPA boss Clint Newton says a player strike is a “last-resort option” as the Players’ Union prepares to enlist an industrial-relations expert to help smoke the peace pipe with the NRL. There are fears the NRL player boycott on media coverage is the first step towards an unprecedented employee strike that would see the code’s 500-plus contracted stars stand down from playing duties for the first time in rugby league’s history over the protracted CBA saga.

But Newton is hopeful strike action is not on the cards and believes an industrial-relations mediator can help provide a circuit-breaker to what he termed a “player rights war” with the NRL.

Matty Johns, Mick Inness and Ricky Stuart have launched an attack on the RLPA over the action.
Specifically, Johns suggested the NRL may be within their rights to seek compensation from the players for breach of contract.

“It is the flow-on effect,” Johns said. “Let’s have a look at the flow-on effect to Channel Nine who pay huge money for the State of Origin."
“It is not just for the game. It is access to the players, it’s for access to the dressing rooms, access to the teams."
“They would be within their rights if that doesn’t happen next Wednesday to go to the game and say listen, we want compensation, we haven’t got what we paid for.

“Then in turn, the NRL would be within their rights to say to the players, ‘listen that $30,000 you’re getting a game, you’re going to have to give some of that back’.”

Not sure exactly what the issue is between the NRL and RLPA. Personalities maybe....
The fans deserve to hear what the players have to say. The media is a tool to market the game, why derail that just before the games greatest highlight, State of Origin, is beyond rcw1. Dunno.

Have a very nice weekend.

“We worked in good faith with the NRL to cost-up a hybrid solution that would allow the Titans and Cowboys to have second-tier teams in the Hostplus Cup from next year,” Ben Ikin said. “It came with two conditions. There would be extra funding for our state league clubs and competition logistics, and the new competition structure would proceed as a two-year trial.

“The ARLC rejected our proposal, which ironically the NRL helped design, but not before Andrew Abdo contacted the NSWRL and tried to convince them to let the Titans and Cowboys play their second-tier teams in the NSW Cup.
“That deeply offended the QRL, and rugby league people on the Gold Coast and in north Queensland should feel just as disappointed.“Think about that – the NRL CEO working behind the back of the QRL to get two Queensland clubs to participate in a NSW competition.” ha ha ha ha ha ha Cracks rcw1 up ha ha ha ha ha
