Resisting Climate Hysteria

Yikes!

Not as bad as two jets to the Hunter for a winery tour to promote global boiling though.

The federal Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water has spent almost $40,000 on “sunglasses for extreme climate” and almost $27,000 on a “planning day” for senior executive staff at a Canberra hotel, commonwealth tender documents reveal.

The department has confirmed the sunglasses were for the Australian Antarctic Division, and said the $26,950 “SES planning day”, held at the QT Hotel, was for 160 staff members, working out to a cost of almost $170 a head.

Details published on the AusTender website show the department awarded a $39,318 contract, spanning January 25 to May 1, to sunglasses manufacturers Spotters Shades, based in the Melbourne suburb of Bayswater, for “PPE – Sunglasses for Extreme Climate”.

The company’s website prices its sunglasses at between $260.00 and $319.95 a pair, at which prices the department would have been able to purchase between 120 and 150 pairs.

Founded in 1948, the AAD currently has some 300 staff members, with responsibility for administering the Australian Antarctic Territory, conducting scientific research in the area, and maintaining a presence in the region through permanent stations, field bases and the provision of transport, communication and medical services.

The AusTender website shows the tender for the “SES planning day” was initially for $11,950, but this was subsequently increased to $26,950.
@Sean K Well it's just other people's money or should I say just the poor down trodden tax payer as usual.

Just wondering what this has to do with climate change?

Are you for real?

It is about, if one believes in the scam, taking personal responsibility. It is many individual actions which make collective action.

If every individual action adds to the collective, then these carbon dioxide intensive activities of the so called "elite" ( ) detracts from that goal, both in terms of leadership and emissions.

But then, socialism has always been about *rules for thee and not for me".

You, being the classic example.

You guys don't seem to understand, its not the emissions of greenhouse gasses in total its the emissions per head.
Thats why Australia has to reign in their emissions, its because although the years increase in Emissions in China is greater than all of the emissions for Australia, its all about the emissions er head of population, and thats where we fail.
Especially when you look at the clowns in the jets, the emissions per head for these joy flights are astronomical.
But thsts ok, as long as you are heartfelt in your demands that everyone (else) reduce their emissions, its all ok.
Its all about the vibe, the optics, the feelings.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

It's the old "actions speak louder than words".

Having ministerial responsibility for climate change or a related field basically does preclude flying in a private jet, ever, if the message is to be credible. Keep away from oversize cars too.

Just as if you're the health minister then you'd better not do well known unhealthy things, eg smoking, at least not in public. Because it blows your credibility to pieces if you do.

Likewise if you're responsible for road safety then be aware that pretty much any driving infringement involving speeding, hooning or alcohol will almost certainly bring an abrupt end to your job.

Etc. If you're some random member of the public then you can do anything as long as it's legal but if you're in a position of authority and as part of that you're encouraging others not to do it, well then doing it yourself blows your credibility to pieces. :2twocents

Dropping this very lightly are you SP ? Clearly another stuff up :cautious:by climate scientists who can't seem to explain (yet.) why global temperatures have risen so steeply in the past 12 months.

These figures would be the reason to get properly hysterical about global heating.

What do the represent ? IF the additional .2C increase in global temperatures is the new norm we would reach 2C of global warming by 2027-8. If one thinks the current extreme weather conditions are bad a 2C world is another climate altogether.

At that rate 3C would be reached well before 2040. That scenario was seen as a possibility in the later part of this century which would put Australia in a precarious position.

Let's see if the remainder of 2024 continues this trend and what the consequences would be.

I just saw this graph which highlighted the extreme nature of the last 15 months of global temperatures. The other reference goes into further detail.

Perhaps it's poorly calculated methane emissions that are driving the current extreme temperatures across the world ? Methane is around 80 times more powerful as a GG than CO2. It does break down in around 20 years but the short term pressure on global heating is still significant.

This would be hysterical if it wasn't setting a disastrous precedent. How can a tiny emitter like Switzerland, which is covered in snow for most of the year, be responsible for any change in the climate?

Madness.

Sad as the death of this passenger is, he died from a heart attack, which may or may not have been caused by the sudden drop of 6000 feet over 5 minutes.
