Resisting Climate Hysteria

As I keep saying all the drivers are known and discussed at length over on that surfing website, when Dominic Perrottet NSW premier stood up and said no one could have forecasted the NSW floods it was met by great mirth as it was discussed 6 months before by Craig and others.

By the way Craig Brokensha who does most of the forecasting accepts climate change science and the drivers often separating out weather events and events influenced by climate change.

BTW the gap between stuff from experts compared to the piffle offered up by the Murdoch press is so wide I don't normally comment any that often.
I don't think anyone disagrees with climate change, I think the main bone of contention is what is causing it, that's why a lot of arguments become circular the outcome is agreed the inputs differ and it isn't a precise science so no one can actually predict exactly the outcomes.

Just about anywhere you go in Australia, Mt Magnet, the centre or the Flinders ranges, you find sea shells, it has been underwater before, therefore it isn't beyond reason to assume it can happen again.

Land masses rise and fall along with sea levels as for the cause of CC science speaks to that, extreme right wing politics doesn't.

Yep like below for WA, streamflow.
For what it's worth there's been quite a lot of co-operation between WA and Tas in regard to this, the latter having put some pretty decent effort into researching it.

Tasmania doesn't have the same drastic reduction in runoff but changes can be observed at the same time as those in WA, which removes anything local as a likely explanation.

Not my area of expertise but I do know that the timing of runoff change was found to correspond not to temperature in an absolute sense but to temperature trend changes. Eg the drop during the mid-1970's aligns perfectly with a change in global temperature trend at the same time. Possibly coincidental but quite likely it's related.

The WA Water Corporation and Hydro Tasmania both have accurate records going back to the 1910's. Whilst longer would always be better, that does in practice cover virtually all man-made climate change. Combined with BOM and other data (there's a few others eg mining companies and large rural properties that have also collected data to proper meteorological standards over an extended period), it's overall a good enough basis for research. :2twocents

With the monstrous wet hitting the inland areas and deserts, and record falls are being recorded.
The East-West road link is no longer open, causing concern with the road trains parked up at the WA/SA border.
It remains to be seen if the Trans railway line is also affected by this surge of water.
No doubt if there is a shortage of goods from the East, then the supermarkets will again go for the kill with price hikes.

This happens way too often, at least four times in the 2½ years I've been back in Perth

When the State Shipping fleet was here, these problems wouldn't have been an issue.
We had a retired State Ships Skipper living over the road from us at another property many years ago.
Round and round Australia he went and to Singapore as well.

Plus the reduction/removal of warehousing in favour of JIT. Fine, so long as things like this don't happen.

Seems that it has:

The state's main road and rail freight link to the east has been severed by floodwaters, causing supply chain and logistics issues, although Eyre Highway was reopened this morning after being closed yesterday evening at 5pm.

Another example of climate alarmism.
The following warning was issued by scientists at Colorado University back in October 2008.

This year , Wolf Creek resort in Southern Colorado has had 24 feet of snow and its still coming down (see the web cams at Wolf Creek Ski ).

Short simple scientific explanation of the evidence that the current global heating is caused by human activity.

Well with all that doom and gloom we got half mm of rain last night.
Was that good ? I think you got some good drops recently didn't you ?

I posted Sabines clear explanation of how human activity is directly causal of our current global warming activity because this thread repeatedly attempts to deny/divert that reality.

You can see the evidence here with pizza ovens running hotter due to global warming

Snip, from order-order.com

Billionaire John Caudwell responds to Gaia”s criticism of his hypocrisy over owning a helicopter and a super-yacht yet calling for Net Zero policies…

“I get this all the time, Titania is absolutely dreadful for the environment… as are aircraft and people’s package tours going on holiday and travelling all around the world. But weaponising a yacht to try to undermine its owner’s calls for climate action is a distraction from the huge overhaul of energy systems and agriculture that is needed to deliver real progress on carbon emissions.”
Loving the helicopter reference

The problem is the tendency of those pushing a message on climate to take a "heads I win, tails you lose" approach.

If we get weather that provides evidence of climate change then they'll jump straight on it, saying it must be climate change that's caused it.

If the opposite occurs then the response is to say well look see, weather isn't climate.

Can't have it both ways and that approach shoots credibility to pieces in the minds of the public. It's equivalent to enforcing laws by saying if you're a victim well look, we can't convict someone without firm evidence even though we have your statement, we have witnesses and so on but there's not outright proof. But on the other hand, if we catch you anywhere even remotely near a crime scene then it's straight to prison you go. Heads you lose, tails the other side wins.

Most have zero tolerance for that sort of thing. :2twocents

Another example of climate change, due to human activity. ;)

Humans’ unquenchable thirst for groundwater has sucked so much liquid from subsurface reserves that it’s affecting Earth’s tilt, according to a new study.

Groundwater provides drinking water for people and livestock, and it helps with crop irrigation when rain is scarce. However, the new research shows that persistent groundwater extraction over more than a decade shifted the axis on which our planet rotates, tipping it over to the east at a rate of about 1.7 inches (4.3 centimeters) per year.

That shift is even observable on Earth’s surface, as it contributes to global sea level rise, researchers reported in the study published June 15 in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.

“Earth’s rotational pole actually changes a lot,” said lead study author Ki-Weon Seo, a professor in the department of Earth science education at Seoul National University in South Korea, in a news release. “Our study shows that among climate-related causes, the redistribution of groundwater actually has the largest impact on the drift of the rotational pole.”

That was a very interesting story.

Indeed extraction of ground water may well affect the tilt of the earth - slightly. But the current effect of more direct human caused activity still dwarfs this contribution.

Yes but we can do better, you need to buy the EV, get the panels on the roof and get the house battery Bas. 🤣

Australia's environmental scorecard worsened in 2023, but the country fared better than much of the rest of the globe, according to a report from the Australian National University (ANU).

Conducted annually, Australia's Environment Report compiles detailed scientific data to give the country a score out of 10.

In 2023 the score was 7.5, down from 8.7 in 2022.
