It will cross tonight between Mutarnee which is the red pole and Cungulla. Cat 3.

We have had worse.

See you on the other side.

r u okay @Garpal Gumnut ?
Should make for an interesting night ....

Kind regards

All good here thanks @rcw1. Much of Tsv without power but I'm ok. Quite a wind.

It is not as frightening as Yasi. We were under tables and in corners in our sleeping bags during that.

More troubling the barometer has just dropped to 989 and is falling as I type according to the fourth Mrs. Gumnut who is the scientific and legal brain behind the good ship G. A few strong gusts shaking the house.

Landfall expected at 10pm although it keeps changing, about 10-12 k north of me.

I would also ask everyone to keep our Western neighbours in your thoughts, these cyclones do move inland and then south. Cyclone Debbie actually eventually caused deaths south of Murwillumbah and flooding in Lismore before petering out ( sorry @peter2 ).

Hughenden, a beautiful town with many, many good people amongst the rabble, is in Kirraly's path.

Anyways, head down, bum up, woopsa daisy and on with the dance.

and night time it always seems noisier.

.
this all seems 'manageable ' and what happens down the track can be unpredictable. Burdekin will run a banker.

k
Sudden drop in barometer reading hmmmmm; more of the same and some bloke...
Stay safe ...

Kind regards

Quite an odd cyclone. It is now no longer one, is officially a low.

Much wind early on yesterday evening. Power out at 7pm and still out. Some horizontal rain for about an hour, again early in the evening. No reports of local flooding.

It is a beautiful pre-sunrise with steady but not torrential rain, and humidity dropping.

I didn't sleep much, not due to weather but woo woo atmospheric stuff probably.

Big tip for cyclones. If you feel like a cup of coffee at 5am and struggle out of bed down to the kitchen, water does not boil in electric kettles during power blackouts LOL.

So I had a delicious Schlossgold zero alcohol beer o.5L can which stayed cold in the fridge. It goes v. well with Weetbix and raspberries.

Some talk the cyclone was shaped like a rugby ball rather than a soccer ball, and thus its odd behaviour. e.g. rain falling north of the eye rather than the usual south, odd wind and rain pattern, low intensity for most for a 3.

nice

much better option:

way back when, before internet and data maxxing out, the daily synoptic chart was, to me, the best way to convey information, and even interpret a possible 'forecast'.

Published in the daily rag, on the box at 7:30pm, the chart was a core component of The Weather. Sure, it was static, liable for revision, and could miss developing situations but, as a general guide, I liked it.

in Hughenden, with this particular cyclone, Kirrily, it seems they first said "Send it N by NW", as far as the Gulf, then, "Send it down, South". How low can a Low go?

rainfall for the last 7 days:
