Several live streams will be available from youtube during the course of the day.
This one from Midge Point is online for now but there will be others.
All the best wishes for noco, pinkboy and others :)

Streams are down now. I'll go with F13 > they're pretty good.

ABC broadcasting live outdoors at Townsville so it doesn't seem too bad there yet.
It has been a fizza in Townsville.......Very little wind and very little rain but I do feel for those poor buggers in Bowen, Airlie Beach, Proserpine and Mackay...From past experience I know what they are going through and can only express my sympathy for them.

If you have never been through such an event I can assure you it is a terrorizing affair.

Mackay not so bad, just a bit breezy in comparison. Airlie, Bowen and especially the islands have fared far worse.

Good luck (again) to all those in Townsville and thereabouts with TC Iris. I hope it does not affect you too much.

Good morning
Cyclone Jasper has intensified to a category 3 severe tropical cyclone but has the potential to reach the extremely destructive category 5, with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting the cyclone to impact any region north of Mackay early next week. Way to early yet to predict severity upon landfall or where it will cross the east coast...

Anyways, early for cyclone activity. From memory the last one to hit the northern parts of Queensland in December was Althea which devastated Townsville and district just before Christmas 1971. Apart from the wind, storm activity, there was a huge tidal surge, luckily the cyclone hit on a low tide otherwise ....

Category: 5 – Severe Tropical Cyclone
Strongest gust: More than 280 km/h. Extremely destructive winds
Typical effects: Extremely dangerous with widespread destruction.

Northerners are to be hyper vigilant with Jasper. Not good.

Thanks @rcw1

These cyclones tend to slow down as they approach the coast, so I would agree that early next week we will be more concerned than at present here in N.Queensland.

The fifth Mrs Gumnut declares a Tuesday arrival and I would not argue with her nor her muse Wallys Weather.

I do not believe anyone has the slightest idea with Jasper. Officially it is said it will cross somewhere Cape Melville to Townsville but not incl. Townsville. Sometime late Tuesday ( tomorrow ) or early Wednesday.

It is very still in Cairns, v windy in Townsville and on the Atherton Tablelands. There is some nice rain here (4810) presently with a good wind.

Cyclones are becoming more difficult to predict.

My money is on Cyclone Jasper crossing the coast at Cardwell. This is on sentiment and previous history. It is a beautiful little township ruined some time ago by the jet ski and McMansion brigade who built in that clown Williamson's subdivision. They have left after the last cyclone and it is recovering. I might look at retiring there.

Anyways , it is starting to blow. Who knows.

Oh btw for any members of ASF new to N.Queensland, ABC NQ and FNQ is best radio (no Sydney nor Melbourne soft leftie nor pronouns codswallop during emergencies) during cyclone, and for drinkers Jamesons Whiskey and Eagle Rare Kentucky Bourbon are palatable without ice at any temperature under 45C. You are advised to boil the rest. I don't drink but that is from memory and I've been through a fair few cyclones.

at last, some excitement..
.. do the turtles have a plan?
Well, presently it looks as if will cross in boogaloo country on the Cape, north of Cooktown. I'd guess the plan for all turtles is higher highs. Harvest the baccy and marijuana crops and hope the QPS and AFP don't come doing aerial checks with the good folk from Emergency Services.

The forecasts become more accurate 24 hrs out from landfall.

Although remember they can change, become more intense, take off in a different direction etc. etc.

Stay as safe as you can GG. Apparently Jasper has increased to a Cat 2 as it nears land with wind gusts up to 150 kmh and very heavy rain with the possibility of life-threatening flooding. The prediction is it will cross North of Port Douglas. I understand it's also a King tide tomorrow. That isn't the best in the circumstances.

3pm latest.... hmmmmmmmmm Cyclone Jasper has intensified to Category 2, moving west southwest at 7 kilometres per hour.
Drove back from Cooktown, yesterday, driving rain... in Mareeba :)
