Leaving Australia (again)

You can buy condo in Thailand , and property/house in Japan but not easily acreage
I look more at Central America as well , uruguay 👍..would be very careful with Argentina as they have a sickly leftist culture similar to my homeland.
Now that the country is collapsed and prostitution one of the few career paths left, they are waking up to the beauty of socialism and have elected Javier..but I am not convinced yet
You can by condos, villas in most of Asia but it’s like a 99 year lease on the building not the land.
I’m bias towards Argentina due to my German heritage, South America and Argentina has a large influx of migration from Europe in the 1800 & early 1900s

I agree with the the new elvis style Javier, but it’s only been a year or so since his election and seems hell bent on ending the welfare socialist state of his country.

It’s appealing as citizenship can be obtained by investing 7k in a business or just knocking up one of those Spanish European women

Laying in the beach, drinking rum and smoking weed living tax free sounds pretty good in theory but what else is there to do?
A Fair few of the big macro/hedge fund dudes live in the Caribbean. I think it would be a great place to live if you had boxes of money sitting around the house and you could get off your island regularly.

RE not cheap either.

In Asia you cannot buy land as a foreigner,
I’ve worked in mining for several years some of those in WA, many of the guys that work FIFO live in SE Asia mainly Thailand or Bali and found the the so called love their life over there and have brought land for pennies on the dollar compared to Australia it has to remain in the wives name

Personally I’ve started looking at South America, largely Argentina or Uruguay. Cost of living similar to that of Asia and you can purchase land in your own name
Hmmm South America hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I am investigating either Argentina or Uruguay. I do have some vestiges of the Español I learnt from school in SoCal... and afuera is my new favourite word

Mrs not so keen however as she has zero connection with the Spanish language.

The German connection in Argentina is also interesting @investor13 is we both do also have some rudimentary German.

Just don't mention that Malvinas?

I had a touche...going back to the English lores
how many French soldiers did fight and die when the German moved in?
Now do some searches and you will be no doubt be surprised.
Well in WW2 the Germans broke through france because while the French army were busy fighting the Germans, the French Generals were busy fighting the British Generals.

Would be a lot of work available for a farrier in Argentina, I believe polo is popular there.

Have you considered Gidgegannup?
I have to admit to being befuddled by this response, considering my OP.

Gidge is just up the hill from us literally only 20 minutes away. It is a nice spot and there is a lot to like about it.

However it is still only 40 minutes away from the diabolical socialists/communists which infest our WAussie lawmaking chambers. Additionally, nearby centres comprise of Toodyay, Mundaring and Madland... Perhaps Northam.

Mundaring is the most pleasant of those, the others being basically Mad Max territory. But till not a beacon of culture/history, now is it?

It's sti ll a beautiful spot and I can imagine many many people being totally happy there.... And quite obviously as there are.

As I mentioned above we could be completely happy there but that would be contingent upon Millsian liberty. Without that, there are other things that we would want out of life to compensate.

The best polo players in the world.... And the gauchos are pretty spectacularly good horseman too.

Not my particular area of interest/expertise however. Still, I imagine plenty of work in my specialised field(s).

If I were you I would be looking at going somewhere where you could teach the trade, TAFE or overseas.

I reckon you would enjoy being a teacher.

Well in WW2 the Germans broke through france because while the French army were busy fighting the Germans, the French Generals were busy fighting the British Generals.
Indeed, there was an abysmal strategic mistake as the French hierarchy, but not De Gaules was expecting a Verdun V2 and built la ligne Maginot, a fortified front which indeed was never breached, the German just sent paratroopers and came from behind with none of the defence able to turn 180.
In term of death, it was actually bloodied: horse regiments vs panzer, paratrooper behind the lines
In only a few days, the french forces lost 40 to 50 000 soldiers, not counting MIA which have not still be found now so.
From memory, British troops lost roughly a quarter of that figure then.
They retreated toward Dunkirk or south where they were moped by airplanes.
In Dunkirk, 140 000 french soldier gathered next to a nearly similar number of UK troops.
Most of the UK troops were taken onboard, few of the french were.
I can understand as the ships were British.
The french navy retreated to french Africa ( both UK and France were ruling the colonial world then) and the Brits decided to ensure the french navy would not be taken over by the German and bombed it to crap with thousands of death, a french pearl harbor, while in port..something you could call a stab in the back as we were supposedly allies and no resistance was raised when the UK planes arrived..both navies were ruling the areas and not a German in sight.
You do not have to be a complotist to understand it was an easy solution for the UK to destroy the other colonial power.
Can I guess this is not the story told in Australia.
That event was a godsend for the Germans who ensured it was constantly repeated in their propaganda during the occupation ..who is your enemy...
If geopolitic was this simple ..
So french people liked the US but never much the British , the perfid Albion , tea drinkers and roast beef eaters. "Rostbif"

While The Germans had a better Airforce the French actually had better Tanks In the Char B1,better Armour. While the German tanks were faster and all fitted with radios. The British with French retreated to Dunkirk after they tried to breakthrough at Arras. The French in the south failed to co ordinate with this attack, had they done so they could have cut off Guderian and they Germans would have been isolated.

There's a great yoootooob channel call "War Stories" which collates and posts documentaries on war. I watched one on this incident. It is UK/US centric of course, but super interesting.

@wayneL As She and Me and "the bloke in the mirror" do reside here in Gidgie and have for the past 22 years, it is our bit of paradise.
The downside is the houns doing their donuts in the small hours of the morning at an intersection not far from us.
My one wish is that they lose control of their vehicle any try to demolish the nearby large tree, that others have also attempted to do.

You mean https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attack_on_Mers-el-Kébir ?

The following is meant with the utmost respect...

France had fallen to the Germans on 25 June 1940; it was formally surrendered to Germany. Any naval hardware it had was gonna be German (or Italian) navy, essentially. The attack on that fleet, on 3 July 1940, was appalling and sickening - but Wikipedia says it killed 1,297 French (not thousands in the plural but still horrific). It DID keep the hardware out of German hands. The French assurances were not enough as they were not in control of such things anymore. "Darlan repeatedly refused British requests to place the fleet in British custody or move it to the French West Indies, out of German reach."

You shouldn't feel bad as a Frenchman: Germany rolled through all of mainland Europe - the Brits were just a little luckier because of the natural defences that an island offers. I doubt British jealousy about your African conquests was a big part of it all at that particular time - France was a vassal state. The liberation of France (in which the UK helped significantly) was four years away.

I can understand why a Frenchman might view it in the terms you use, though. And, just maybe, there was a certain toxic bloodymindedness about the way the old upper crust Englishmen - the type who made up the British War Cabinet - thought about the French. Perhaps that bloodymindedness allowed them to more easily entertain a ruthlessly efficient solution that in hindsight seems wicked on a human level.
