@Skate Hope you don't mind me putting this here. I came across an article titled Timeless tactics: preparing your portfolio for market downturns. It was written by a Fund Manager.
I gotta say this really ticked me off. They are an LIC - deep value manager meaning they buy cheap shitty stocks IMHO. In 2021 and into 2022 they had a drawdown of over 70%!!!! And they have the hide to write an article for how they are now preparing for the next downturn. A monkey throwing darts couldn't do that bad.
I would name them but they may be very thin skinned.

@investtrader, your comments remind us how important it is to think carefully and do our own research when it comes to investing. It's a valuable lesson for all of us to be cautious and thoughtful when considering investment advice and making decisions about our money.

indeed

i remember taking a tip from a full service-broker

i did my own research (using other sources ) and decided to buy in

anyway things went pear-shaped for a while so i averaged down and down and down and eventually a take-over offer crystallized a useful profit ( on my average share price ) , nothing close to the original entry point

very interesting that high cyanide levels in the tailings dam was an issue when i held the company .. but not for the new owner

but maybe i am just cynical

Well, well, well
It's embarrassing to face this week's results, a humbling reminder that none of us possesses a crystal ball to foresee what lies ahead.

# Disclaimer - This is a theoretical investment exercise
In this exercise, we put "Google (AI) Gemini" head-to-head with seasoned fund manager Dr. Don Hamson from Plato Investment Management. Both were tasked with providing their "top five growth and income stocks" for the next 12 months on the ASX.

First Place -$1,091
# Dr. Don Hamson (Expert) - BLUE line on the equity chart

Second Place -$2,460
# Google Gemini (AI) - RED line on the equity chart

Third Place -$3,191

It's been a rocky road but one of my AI picks is still in the positive.

It's funny how the two portfolios alternate from postive to negitive gains all the time.

Fans of Boney M
Many have heard this song, but most don't know that the lyrics of "Rivers of Babylon" are from the Bible "Psalm 137". The song captures the emotional struggle of the exiled Jews yearning for their homeland and their faith.

It's best to watch the larger version on "YouTube"

Most would not be aware that "Boney M." immortalised "Grigori Rasputin" in their song "Rasputin" a Russian mystic & self-proclaimed holy man who ended up in St. Petersburg.

The murder of Rasputin
I have been in the room, well it was more like a small cellar at "Moika Palace" in St. Petersburg where Grigori Rasputin was poisoned with cyanide, & shot by Prince Felix Felixovich Yusupov in the chest. Rasputin fled the cellar & made it into the palace's courtyard before being shot again by awaiting Vladimir Purishkevich a (politician) after all it was a political assassination. I've also visited the spot where Rasputin's lifeless body was thrown into the Malaya Nevka River from the Petrovsky Bridge.

What a Coincident
In the echoes of history, Rasputin and Bobby remain forever linked, a "mystic" and a "singer", both touched by the enigma of St. Petersburg. On the morning of December 30, 2010, Bobby breathed his last in a hotel room in St. Petersburg, Russia and died on the same date & in the same city as Grigori Rasputin.

This is the best visual version of Boney M. version of "Rasputin"
The energy of Bobby Farrell is so infectious.

Yes, interesting story. Though I thought I had read that the bullet was found in his head.

There have been many mentions of his exploits in music, movies, theatre and series drama, I would be surprised if "most" did not know of Rasputin's reputation.

His daughter had an interesting life, after her father's death. Life is stranger than fiction.

Marriage and Aging
After being married for nearly 50 years, I took a careful look at my wife today and said, "Fifty years ago we had a cheap house, a junk car, slept on a sofa bed, and watched a 10-inch black-and-white TV. But I got to sleep every night with a hot 21-year-old girl".

Now I have a $900,000 home, a $95,000 car, a nice big bed, and a large-screen 84-inch TV. But I'm sleeping with a 70-year-old woman. It seems to me that you're not holding up your side of things.

My wife is a very reasonable woman
She told me to go out and find a hot 21-year-old girl, and she would make sure that I would once again be living in a cheap house, driving a junk car, sleeping on a sofa bed, and watching a 10-inch black-and-white TV.

Aren't older women great?
They really know how to solve your midlife crisis!

@Skate Professor no wondering for you.

Good to see you back positive, that trend was scary..

Skate, you've done a bit of work using the MACD in your systems trading.

I want to mention some work done by Alex Spiroglou. He's developed an indicator based on the MACD called MACD-v (volatility normalised momentum). This indicator is unbounded and it's values can be compared across markets (stocks).

I think you may find this indicator more useful in your trading systems. Definitely worth some research.

Edit: Added formula from one of Alex's presentations.

Where is the educational value in continuing to post disappointing results after 16 weeks?
It is rather embarrassing, and I find it disheartening that there seems to be no educational benefit in this exercise. I'm beginning to question the initial premise of this endeavour, as it appears to have been flawed from the outset. This experiment has demonstrated that none of us possess the ability to predict the future with certainty. Simply sharing these results requires minimal effort, as Excel performs all the calculations with a single CommSec export. If this exercise proves to be helpful or enjoyable for others to follow along, I will continue to share the progress.
