American Politics

The interview/testimony of General Milley is fascinating. Well worth checking out to understand what was happening in the two years leading up to the 2020 election and his care to ensure the military played no role in the election of the President.

300-page transcript of General Milley interview with Jan 6th Committee

US Joint Chiefs top brass General Mark Milley was called to testify to the Jan 6th Committee. The full transcript of his interview has now been released. He was not a happy camper.

In Milley’s own words: The most striking moments from his Jan. 6 interview

The Joint Chiefs chair told investigators he was worried that America's enemies saw an opening based on the chaos at the Capitol.

The military’s top general was so alarmed by the events of Jan. 6 that he ordered his staff to immediately start collecting “boatloads” of relevant documents for future investigations — even classifying some so that only certain people could see them.

“I knew the significance, and I asked my staff, freeze all your records,” Joint Chiefs Chair Gen. Mark Milley told members of the Jan. 6 committee.

The general said he went to extraordinary lengths to classify the documents “at a pretty high level” to ensure that only those “who appropriately needed to see it” could access it.

The revelation was one of many that Milley made during a Nov. 17, 2021, interview with committee members.
The 300-page transcript of the interview released this week is chock-full of wild anecdotes — not just from the day of the Capitol assault, but from the two years he served as then-President Donald Trump’s top military adviser.

From the very start, Milley makes clear that he is appalled by the events of that day. The general spoke at length about the oath he took as an officer and said he believes the insurrection was no less than an assault on the Constitution.

“The events of January 6th, in my personal opinion, were a horrific day, a tragic day in the history of America,” Milley said, according to the transcript. “So what I saw unfold on the 6th was disturbing, to say the least.”

This was the dck that talked to the Chinese behind the presidents back. Pretty sure it was close to treason.

You know... if you actually read what he said and actually had something relevant to say about his testimony you might be useful.

Trump in jail yet?
Is there anything?
You have been banging on since 2016 with hundreds of conspiracy theories.
Despite half of the country and billions of dollars trying to take him down, do you really think if there was something solid he wouldn't already be in jail.

That general is a known moron.

More xjhit. As usual.

If you can't see the range of criminal charges being developed against Donald Trump then your just being wilfully blind.
If you can't acknowledge the already public evidence about his behaviour in attempting to the overthrow the last election results you are also just wilfully blind.

But no matter. You have plenty of illustrious company don't you ? And of course you will never, ever be called justify your denial of reality and your tacit support for one of the most disgraceful attempts at overthrowing a US government.

The drive by shots at General Milley ? More specious smears. Again I notice you don't even make a pretense of responding to the testimony he gave and how he responded to thousands of Trump inspired ravers rampaging through the Capitol looking for people to string up.

Milley was an idiot. He basically nailed his colours to the mast when he said he was willing to blab to the Chinese in the event of war and going against the commander in chief.

So far all of you far fetched stories have come to nothing. There is now a list so long it's mind boggling. Is it embarrassing yet?

I punched in Milley is a Moron and yep when there are plenty of frothy Trumpians who want a piece of General Milley.
Obviously these are your points of reference, You've nailed your colours to the mast. Happy sailing..

Regarding what General Milley did to protect the whole world as Donald Trump became more and more erratic in his efforts to stop teh transfer of power ? Absolutely essential. Lets look at the full story. Of course Trump demanded he be tried for treason. He is just that sort of guy ..

Gen. Milley feared Trump might launch nuclear attack, made secret calls to China, new book says

  • Gen. Mark Milley, top military adviser to Trump, questioned Trump's mental state after election.
  • Milley's plan to limit Trump's control over military action are described in new book, "Peril."
In the aftermath of the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark Milley — then former President Donald Trump's top military adviser — took precautions to limit Trump's ability to launch a military strike or deploy nuclear weapons, according to a new book by Bob Woodward and Robert Costa of The Washington Post.

In "Peril," Woodward and Costa write that Milley was afraid Trump had constructed "his own alternate reality about endless election conspiracies" and was worried the former president could "go rogue," CNN reported.

Milley told senior staff that "You never know what a president's trigger point is," according to CNN.

In an rare move, the outlet reported, Milley called a secret meeting of senior military officials at the Pentagon on Jan. 8 to review the process for military action — including launching nuclear weapons. He instructed those in charge of the National Military Command Center, the Pentagon's war room, not to take orders from anyone without his involvement.

According to CNN, he told the officials "No matter what you are told, you do the procedure. You do the process. And I'm part of that procedure." Milley then looked each officer in the eye and asked them to verbally confirm they understood his instructions.

Milley's actions were prompted by a phone call with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., earlier that day. According to The Washington Post, Pelosi demanded to know “What precautions are available to prevent an unstable president from initiating military hostilities or from accessing the launch codes and ordering a nuclear strike?”

“He’s crazy. You know he’s crazy. … He’s crazy and what he did yesterday is further evidence of his craziness,” she said, according to The Post. Milley replied, “I agree with you on everything.”

Milley's decision to place himself between Trump and sanctioned military actions mirrored those of James R. Schlesinger, secretary of defense under President Richard Nixon. In August 1974, Schlesinger instructed military officials to alert him and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs before carrying out orders from Nixon, who was facing impeachment at the time, The Post reported.

Milley also reassured Chinese Gen. Li Zuocheng of the People’s Liberation Army that the U.S. had no intention of launching a strike against China, according to the paper. It was one of two secret phone calls shared with Li on the issue.

The first took place on Oct. 30, 2020, after Milley reviewed intelligence suggesting China believed the U.S. was preparing for an attack due to military exercises in the South China Sea and Trump's antagonism toward the country, according to The Post. But Milley told Li he would be warned of an impending attack.

“General Li, you and I have known each other for now five years," he said, according to the paper. "If we’re going to attack, I’m going to call you ahead of time. It’s not going to be a surprise.”

But the events of Jan. 6 renewed Li's concerns. On Jan. 8, Milley once again assured the Chinese general. “We are 100 percent steady. Everything’s fine. But democracy can be sloppy sometimes,” he told him, according to The Post.

The same day, the paper reported, Milley contacted the admiral overseeing the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command to recommend postponing military exercises, to which he complied.

In a statement Tuesday, Trump responded to the book's revelations by calling Milley a "failed leader who engineered the worst withdrawal from a country ... in U.S. history..."

If the story is true, he said, "then I assume (Milley) would be tried for TREASON in that he would have been dealing with his Chinese counterpart behind the President's back and telling China that he would be giving them notification 'of an attack.' Can't do that!"

"Peril" is a recount of Trump's final days in office based on more than 200 interviews with eyewitness accounts. Woodward and Costa also delve into the first days of the Biden presidency.

The book is supplemented with classified material, from secret orders to call transcripts, diaries, emails, meeting notes and personal government records. It is scheduled for release on Sept. 21.

The resignation letter General Milley didn't send to Donald Trump. He stewed on it.
So yes General Milley wasn't a Trump sycophant. I'm glad he didn't pull the pin however.

I regret to inform you that I intend to resign as your Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Thank you for the honor of appointing me as senior ranking officer. The events of the last couple weeks have caused me to do deep soul-searching, and I can no longer faithfully support and execute your orders as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. It is my belief that you were doing great and irreparable harm to my country. I believe that you have made a concerted effort over time to politicize the United States military. I thought that I could change that. I’ve come to the realization that I cannot, and I need to step aside and let someone else try to do that.

Second, you are using the military to create fear in the minds of the people—and we are trying to protect the American people. I cannot stand idly by and participate in that attack, verbally or otherwise, on the American people. The American people trust their military and they trust us to protect them against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and our military will do just that. We will not turn our back on the American people.

Third, I swore an oath to the Constitution of the United States and embodied within that Constitution is the idea that says that all men and women are created equal. All men and women are created equal, no matter who you are, whether you are white or Black, Asian, Indian, no matter the color of your skin, no matter if you’re gay, straight or something in between. It doesn’t matter if you’re Catholic, Protestant, Muslim, Jew, or choose not to believe. None of that matters. It doesn’t matter what country you came from, what your last name is—what matters is we’re Americans. We’re all Americans. That under these colors of red, white, and blue—the colors that my parents fought for in World War II—means something around the world. It’s obvious to me that you don’t think of those colors the same way I do. It’s obvious to me that you don’t hold those values dear and the cause that I serve.

And lastly it is my deeply held belief that you’re ruining the international order, and causing significant damage to our country overseas, that was fought for so hard by the Greatest Generation that they instituted in 1945. Between 1914 and 1945, 150 million people were slaughtered in the conduct of war. They were slaughtered because of tyrannies and dictatorships. That generation, like every generation, has fought against that, has fought against fascism, has fought against Nazism, has fought against extremism. It’s now obvious to me that you don’t understand that world order. You don’t understand what the war was all about. In fact, you subscribe to many of the principles that we fought against. And I cannot be a party to that. It is with deep regret that I hereby submit my letter of resignation.

The net is chock full of stories from righteous Trump supporters denouncing General Milley for his actions after the storming of the Capitol on Jan 6th. Perhaps it's worth looking at a Socialist perspective on the events.

General Milley and America’s “Reichstag moment”

Bill Van Auken

15 July 2021

“This is a Reichstag moment, the gospel of the Führer,” Gen. Mark Milley, the chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the top US uniformed military commander, told his aides in the run-up to the January 6 fascist-led assault on the US Capitol building.

The general’s reference was to the 1933 Reichstag Fire, a supposed terrorist attack on the German parliament building blamed on a communist worker. It provided the pretext for Hitler’s assumption of dictatorial powers, abrogating parliamentary procedures and democratic rights and unleashing a reign of terror against the working class. It was later proven that the fire was organized by the Nazi Gestapo.

The comparison of Trump’s actions in the wake of the 2020 election to the rise of Hitler is reported in a new book, I Alone Can Fix It: Donald J. Trump’s Catastrophic Final Year, written by Washington Post reporters Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker. It was no isolated remark, nor was the general engaging in hyperbole.

Milley was meeting regularly with fellow members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff representing the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines to assess the threat of a coup and draw up contingency plans. No doubt, these sessions were also aimed at taking the political temperature of the US officer corps to determine what level of support a dictatorial power grab would enjoy in different sections of the military.

According to the book, Milley “kept having a stomach-churning feeling that some of the worrisome early stages of 20th-century fascism in Germany were replaying in 21st-century America. He saw parallels between Trump’s rhetoric of election fraud and Adolf Hitler’s insistence to his followers at the Nuremberg rallies that he was both a victim and their savior.”

The general further described Trump’s fanatical supporters in fascist militias like the Proud Boys, Oath Keepers and Three Percenters as “brownshirts,” telling military and security officials preparing for the state-of-siege inauguration of Joe Biden, “These are the same people we fought in World War II.”

Trump supporters were outraged, pearl clutchingly outraged , when General Milley after Jan 6th took steps to put himself between Donald Trump and the Nuclear Button. The Button that could effectively spell the end of civilisation. How could the General take such action ?

Almost certainly because General Milley knew exactly what sort of creature Trump was and the way he thought and talked in the past about using nuclear weapons. General Milley would have to be amongst the top military leaders brought to the White House to talk him out of a nuclear strike on North Korea.

I reckon we all got lucky with General Milley in that vital month. Well worth reading the full story.

Trump discussed using a nuclear weapon on North Korea in 2017 and blaming it on someone else, book says

WASHINGTON — Behind closed doors in 2017, President Donald Trump discussed the idea of using a nuclear weapon against North Korea and suggested he could blame a U.S. strike against the communist regime on another country, according to a new section of a book that details key events of his administration.

Trump's alleged comments, reported for the first time in a new afterword to a book by New York Times Washington correspondent Michael Schmidt, came as tensions between the U.S. and North Korea’s Kim Jong-un escalated, alarming then-White House chief of staff John Kelly.
The new section of "Donald Trump v. the United States," obtained by NBC News ahead of its publication in paperback Tuesday, offers an extensive examination of Kelly’s life and tenure as Trump's chief of staff from July 2017 to January 2019. Kelly previously was Trump's secretary of homeland security. For the account, Schmidt cites in part dozens of interviews on background with former Trump administration officials and others who worked with Kelly.

Eight days after Kelly arrived at the White House as chief of staff, Trump warned that North Korea would be "met with fire and fury and frankly power, the likes of which this world has never seen before." When Trump delivered his first speech to the U.N. General Assembly in September 2017, he threatened to "totally destroy North Korea" if Kim, whom he referred to as "Rocket Man," continued his military threats.

Later that month, Trump continued to goad North Korea through his tweets. But Kelly was more concerned about what Trump was saying privately, Schmidt reports.

"What scared Kelly even more than the tweets was the fact that behind closed doors in the Oval Office, Trump continued to talk as if he wanted to go to war. He cavalierly discussed the idea of using a nuclear weapon against North Korea, saying that if he took such an action, the administration could blame someone else for it to absolve itself of responsibility," according to the new section of the book.

Kelly tried to use reason to explain to Trump why that would not work, Schmidt continues.

"It’d be tough to not have the finger pointed at us," Kelly told the president, according to the afterword.

Kelly brought the military’s top leaders to the White House to brief Trump about how war between the U.S. and North Korea could easily break out, as well as the enormous consequences of such a conflict. But the argument about how many people could be killed had "no impact on Trump," Schmidt writes

Current mayor Lightfoot, despite being a woman, black and a democrat, appears to be more heavy foot than anything else, and there are numerous other Democrats lining up to replace her.
Apparently, Jesus is a Democrat and is running for Mayor in Chicago.
From Zero hedge
Meanwhile, Lightfoot's Mayoral opponents are pouncing.
The email comes just as a nine-way mayoral battle is underway and Lightfoot is facing formidable opponents, including Rep. Jesus "Chuy" Garcia of Chicago and Paul Vallas, a former superintendent of Chicago schools.
Who woulda thunk it.

And since Trump has gone, Kim Jong-un has being throwing intercontinental ballistic missiles over Japan and Taiwan, so your point is? Trump handled him wrong, or Biden is handling him wrong. ?
It is great to see how Biden has settled the North Korea issue, beautifull, just beautifull. ?

The current state of affairs with regard North Korea:

Meanwhile a senior United States official called on North Korea to join direct talks about its nuclear and missile programmes with no preconditions, Reuters reported.
"We believe it is completely appropriate and completely correct to start having some serious discussions," the official said.
The US earlier called on North Korea to "refrain from further destabilising acts".
Experts suggest multiple reasons lie behind the spate of launches, including political signalling of strength to global and regional powers, a desire by Kim Jong-un to pressure the US back into long-stalled nuclear talks and also the practical need to test out new engineering and military command systems.

Or in 2017, there was Trumps approach.
"The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea."

Interesting... There were local reporters who bought up the issues of Georges fanciful resume before the election. They were heard but not picked up by the big press. (Much like the local reporter who first researched Epstein in Florida. Took years to get traction) It was after the election that the New York Times confirmed the earlier story and made it a big story.

Since then more and more information has come out. The big deal is how a guy who was evicted from 3 apartments for not paying his rent in the past few years suddenly amassed a multi million dollar package that enabled him to fund his own campaign.

Selling himself in a Democratic ward ? Yep just make up the stories that will swing a few crucial sections of the vote.

In terms of culpability Psycho George represents the Republician Party. He is their creature.

Long Island Publisher Recounts Disturbing Early Meeting With 'Pure Evil' George Santos

Mary Papenfuss
Sun, January 22, 2023 at 12:50 PM GMT+11·2 min read

In this article:

  • George Santos
    American politician from New York

A Long Island newspaper publisher on Saturday recalled an alarming early meeting with then-Republican candidate for the House George Santos, whose behavior he described as “pure evil.”

The North Shore Leader newspaper is currently calling for Santos to resign — or be expelled from the House.
Something was off with him “right from the start,” publisher Grant Lally recounted on MSNBC about his meeting with Santos, whom he described as a “grotesque fraud.”

The candidate at the time was seeking support from the newspaper in the 2020 meeting with Lally. But the Leader lashed him last year as a “fake” and a “fabulist” — and “bizarre, unprincipled and sketchy” — and endorsed his Democratic rival for the House seat.
A recent editorial in what Lally describes as the “mostly Republican” newspaper crowed: “Told you so.”

This was how the North Shore leader described George Santos before the election. It is a conservative newspaper that normally would support a Republican candidate. There is enough in this story alone to put Santos behind bars.

Endorsement: Robert Zimmerman for US Congress (NY3)

228b67_5cb613eb7c6043f9a03b3e807f56a9db~mv2.jpg

This newspaper would like to endorse a Republican for US Congress in NY3 (Oyster Bay, N Hempstead, NE Queens). But the GOP nominee - George Santos - is so bizarre, unprincipled and sketchy that we cannot. We endorse Democrat Robert Zimmerman.

Santos calls himself "a contradiction” - a "gay Latino," who is "ultra-MAGA," and who vacations with his new husband at Trump's Mar-A-Lago, praising Trump as “awesome.” But he then supports extreme leftist schemes like “black reparations from white people.”

Santos has been all over the map on abortion - and on Ukraine. He brags about his “wealth” and his “mansions” in the Hamptons – but he really lives in a row house in Queens. He boasts like an insecure child - but he's most likely just a fabulist - a fake.

One fact, however: In 2020 Santos, then age 32, was the NY Director of a nearly $20 million venture fund called "Harbor City Capital" - until the SEC shut it down as a "Ponzi Scheme." Over $6 million from investors was stolen - for personal luxuries like Mercedes cars, huge credit card bills, and a waterfront home - and millions from new investors were paid out to old investors. Classic Bernie Madoff "Ponzi scheme" fraud.

Santos’ campaign raises similar concerns. On paper Santos has raised over $2 million. But the money seems to have vanished - or never been there. Huge sums are listed with the FEC for personal expenses - like Brooks Brothers, Florida beach resorts, lavish restaurants and limo services - but many hundreds of thousands more disappear into a black hole of dubious "consulting fees."

Santos himself claims to have loaned his campaign nearly $600,000 - but he refuses - illegally - to file his federal financial disclosures. The last one he filed - in 2020 - shows Santos had no assets over $5,000. So where did $600,000 come from ? Or is it even real ? Fed-up Republicans are now calling him "George Scam-tos."

Santos had no visible campaign until a few weeks ago - no offices, no signs, no mailings, no significant "voter contact." Instead, he spent the summer supporting the Nancy Pelosi Democrats fraudulent "Pied Piper" challenges against real Republicans. Why would any normal GOP candidate do virtually nothing for his own campaign - except spend money to "party on the beach" - while trying to sabotage other Republicans? The possible answers to that question are disturbing.

The Democratic nominee, Robert Zimmerman, pledges to follow in outgoing Congressman Tom Suozzi's bi-partisan suburban footsteps. Zimmerman is the party's National Committeeman from New York. And he is a gentleman. When longtime Nassau Republican Chair Joe Mondello passed away this summer - Zimmerman served in the funeral - as one of the late GOP Chairman’s pallbearers.

The Leader endorses Robert Zimmerman for US Congress.
