Ken Burns is the most famous documentary filmmaker in America. He has made 35 films over the past five decades on subjects like the Civil War, Vietnam, Jefferson, Franklin, the Roosevelts, the Statue of Liberty, baseball, jazz, Muhammad Ali, and many more.
He said of his most recent film, The U.S. and the Holocaust: “I will never work on a film more important than this one.”
No matter how many movies you’ve seen or books you’ve read about the Holocaust, Burns’ new film, which focuses on the U.S.’s response to the worst genocide in human history—what we did, and didn’t do—is bound to both surprise and horrify you.
In honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day, I spoke to Burns about why a filmmaker of American history takes on the Holocaust and what this dark period tells us about the chasm between our ideals and our reality. Below are some excerpts from our discussion, edited for length and clarity.
I went into this conversation to talk about FDR, the antisemitism inside the State Department, eugenics, immigration quotas, Charles Lindbergh, Father Coughlin, and more. What I didn’t expect was the intense exchange we had about the responsibilities of writing history, about the uses and misuses of the Holocaust as a political metaphor, and about the way Burns’ own worldview colors his work and how mine colors the way I see a film like this one.

A top US general has reportedly warned his colleagues about the likelihood of a major military showdown with China in the coming two years.
Mike Minihan, a four-star Air Force general and head of the of the US Air Mobility Command (AMC), has issued the most dramatic forecast yet by a senior US military officer, predicting the two superpowers could come to blows in 2025.
He made the unsettling call in a memo addressed to all air wing commanders and and other Air Force personnel under his command, warning that a series of circumstances could embolden Chinese President Xi Jinping to make a move against Taiwan, triggering a heated conflict.
"I hope I am wrong. My gut tells me we will fight in 2025," he wrote.

Indeed wayne. Social media is always awash with rumours. That is the point of just making up creative stuff that stirs the juices of people who want to believe it.
Of course if the default position is that the official story can't be trusted and that MSM doesn't find the truth then naturally Facebook and myriad feeds into it will be believed.

Fox commentator Tucker Carlson did his own edit of the Jan 6th footage at the Capitol to "prove" it wasn't an insurrection but just "mostly peaceful chaos" . He somehow managed to overlook the deaths of 9 people on and after the day as result of the "peaceful chaos"

The NY Post was one of the first to initiate the story.
Unfortunately, there is nothing to identify that Sicknick was the person hit with the fire extinguisher, indeed footage shows him without riot gear spending most of his time in the capitol building.
The coroners report did not see any evidence of blunt force Trauma.
There is long article fromYahoo News reporter who had originally followed the NY Times lead story about Sicknick being killed.
He goes through the various reports and highlights the lack of evidence supporting the Sicknic was killed by rioters on Jan 6th.
It does not condone the behaviour of right wing dorks, but it does demand that before people parrot news stories , facts and backup material need to be established first.
What it does to is provide some comfort to Trump that allows both him and his supporters to keep pushing the "we wuz robbed" line.
They can point out how the MSM make things up, and do not follow up with any facts, kinda similar to Trump.
MSM materially failed in this story, and people who keep pushing the line that Sicknic was killed as a result of getting hit with a fire extinguisher give the MSM comfort to keep producing fake news as trump so famously said.
The problem was, in this case, he was correct.

The driving force behind this riot was the barrage of election lies made up by Trump to gee up his base and the millions of people who now parrot anything he says - because he says it. As far as I can tell the reality of Trumps repeated deliberate lying to undermine the electoral system in the US and set the stage for the Jan 6th events is still not acknowledged.
If it was he would not be in a position to even try and run for President again.
Anyway at least one of the lawyers he used to present his lies have had to fess up.

Under an agreement with Colorado attorney disciplinary officials released on Wednesday, lawyer Jenna Ellis acknowledged that she made 10 "misrepresentations" on television and Twitter about the 2020 election .
The misrepresentations included saying Mr Trump's legal team could "prove" the election was stolen and that the results were "fraudulent," according to the the state's presiding disciplinary judge, Bryon Large.
Ms Ellis and state officials agreed that the statements violated a Colorado rule against attorneys engaging in conduct "involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentation", the opinion by Judge Large said.
