WA still in holiday mode leading up to the return to school "the state of complacency and apathy". There are no long queues at testing centres, not a lot of panic buying and tomorrow we have a big event, Skyworks for Australia Day where 250,000 are expected on the foreshore. Meanwhile omicron local infections doubled today (the ones we know of) and likely to double every day for the foreseeable future in my opinion. I think like the rest of Australia, we in WA are about to get a covid wake up call. Fortunately in WA we are nearly at 90% double dosed vaccinations and omicron apparently not as deadly, my booster not due until 11th February and will be getting it that day.

Mark McGowan ordered to leave WA to attend Clive Palmer defamation trial in person

West Australian Premier Mark McGowan has been ordered to leave the state next month to appear in a Sydney court where billionaire Clive Palmer is suing him for defamation.

Mr Palmer argues comments made by Mr McGowan in 2020, which included calling him an "enemy" of the state, damaged his reputation.
Mr McGowan has counterclaimed that Mr Palmer, in fact, defamed him by saying he had lied and had "abused" the parliamentary system.
The defamation trial was set to start in Sydney on Monday but was today pushed back to start in the middle of next month, with a ruling made for Mr McGowan to appear in court in person.
Mr McGowan had asked the Federal Court to allow him to give evidence via video link because having to quarantine for two weeks would prevent him from attending parliament.

If McGowan does have to quarantine, about time they felt what it was like for the rest of us. They are so out of touch with reality. Lockdowns? Hmm, l don't care, l still get paid a salary regardless of what happens.

Wedgy - Omicron incoming. I think the WA CHO recently stated that they can't keep it out. We all knew this would happen. But McGown last week was pressing for harder lockdowns. What a nut.

I think people have also been lulled into a false sense of security re:Boosters. They think that getting a Booster gives you 3 times the immunity, when in reality if you had your last shot 4 or 5 months ago you basically have no antibodies, hence the need for a booster. This isn't mentioned much in the MSM. And herein lies the issue - do you keep getting boosters forever every 3 to 6 months?

As long as WA keeps the wheels of mining turning and my divies coming through I couldn't give a rats what they do in WA.

Lock them all up in their homes if necessary, except for the FIFO's and Aboriginal inhabitants.

gg
You've said some pretty egregious things GG and I'm sure at least partially in jest, but this is the worst bro.

All for a farkin cold.

The issue in WA is that our health system is the worse in the country with ICU beds per population. That is the real reason why we haven't opened up, our hospitals struggle to cope with a lot of ambulance ramping without covid. Now we are going to find out how bad that system is, as omicron not being contained in WA. The 5000+ people currently in hospital with covid in Australia would say it is more than mild symptoms.

After watching the chaos over east I would think it's more about the lack of RA testing kits

I am not so concerned after all, based on current figures Australia wide, 1 in 69,000 are currently in ICU with covid, based on that we need in WA just 40 ICU beds and about 530 hospital beds for Covid patients at its maximum, so we should be able to cope.

Who do you think has a bigger voice in WA? The doctors and nurses or the resource industry? I'd bet big money it's the resource industry. But it's much more politically correct to say you're doing things for the hospitals rather than doing things for resources. Open up borders, and omicron goes the way it has everywhere else in the world and I'd bet you could see 10-30% absenteeism in the mines with the downstream effects of isolations. Maybe BHP and RIO can cope, but smaller operations cannot. Fifo is nearly to WA what oil is to Saudi Arabia. I'm surprised Che Mcgowan has not dictated a tonne of new fifo rules yet, but expecting them soon.

What Western Australians really need to wake up to is that they elected a labor government, raked in billions from resources and after 5 years the health care system is still garbage. Thank god we at least have some private health care options.

The facts, in 1990 the number of public hospital beds in Western Australia at that time was 3,987. By the end of the 1990s, the number of public hospital beds had declined to 3,345, a loss of more than 600 beds from our public hospital system during the 1990s. By last year that number had risen to 3,427 public hospital beds in WA. Still 560 less than the number we had in 1990. Western Australian Population 1990: 1,195,000 current population 2,667,000. No wonder our health system in WA is struggling and you can thank 30 years of poor government not just the last 5 years under McGowans Leadership.

In the midst of handing over a copious amount of cash to my mechanic just now, he was telling me about some of his relatives who are getting out of the health system now.

Nothing to do with the "vax" at all, but just that they think it is going to be an absolute **** storm when omicron eventually does take hold here... And they don't want to be stuck in the middle of it.

FWIW

Add in the unjabbed who are getting the sack and things do not look good.

They have an alternative?
