Bought some more SVL and IOZ this week, as per previous posts.

Lucky I've been very discretionary with % allocation to some of those specs in the red.

77% cash.

SVL went well today boss, and then collapsed

Yeah, went up to 10.5 for a second. I think it's locked into a range between 9 and 11c until they get the power lines into the mine plan.

The other risk is Plibo and the EDO making some crap up about an endangered blue banded guinea pig within 1000km of the mine site.

There is a reset occuring worldwide in the sort of sh*t that Plibersek and her mob of professional highly paid so called do-gooders but in fact parasites are doing to cripple workers and investors who just want to get on with work and investing, do a good job and live a happy life.

DEI is dead in the water in the US and there are cracks appearing in the Aboriginal Industry e.g Welcome to Country here. It may be too late for investors here but the crap that goes on about getting permits will disappear.

Needed to get that off my chest. Excuse me please for the rant.

btw I hate the effin blue banded guinea pig.

Sean, why do you let losses run well past -20%?
I i have leant one thing in the last 20y, is that you need to cut your losses, get back in later if you want.
Am I missing something?

Good question. When I was last full time 'trading' I had a sell pencilled in at a 10% gain and a sell on a 5% loss. That was lots of buys and sells with about a 30 stock holding limit. It worked, but it was hard work.

I'm experimenting with a different type of 'trading' now. It's more like medium term active investing. With the small caps, I'm trying to find things that might go up 5-10x and I'm willing to lose on some bad decisions or short term market dynamics not going my way.

I've had two massive wins on my medium term bets the past three years. Uranium and Gold. Bought while they were in the toilet and sold close to the tops.

I've also picked a couple of losers in nickel, graphite and rare earths.

But as you know, I'm hardly invested, and the things with 50% loses really don't mean anything to me.

I'm making more with the cash in the bank at the moment.

Still working out this new plan @qldfrog .

While I think gold and silver are potentially still going to go much higher, I've been thinking about what's the next thematic to be in. I thought battery metals as a group a couple of years ago but they haven't really ran well except in spurts and then collapses. Li and Ni as good examples. Needed to be in them early and get out judiciously. And, didn't expect the slower EV take up and China to destroy the markets.

The next theme might be Cu, and it's why I've had a few copper plays and have just held onto WIRE for a longer term investment. Copper did have a good run from Feb to May this year but then fell over. The general talk is that we're approaching at 10Mt pa deficit in copper starting from around 2025, but will depend on world growth assumptions. Not too many new discoveries readily coming on so even with subdued demand the downside looks small. Just a matter of when the deficit kicks in. 2025-26 looks like the potential price rise period.

Copper is Lobo Tiggre's conviction trade for 2025, and he's got a lot right recently, but, it depends on growth assumptions.

So, this is why I've held onto the copper things, less HCH due to management, and will add more while it's in the dumps expecting it to turn around in the coming year or two.

Not a bad overview here:

Hoping to find a unicorn in the second half of 2024-25 to fix my average return to something more respectable.

i am more of an 'average down' fan and 20 (plus ) % down , i consider if i should buy more

but then i am chasing div. income ( for the future ) so most shares held are liable not to go broke ( famous last words )

BUT it all depends on the company , direction and management , i have made some very quick exits at times ( crystallizing losses or profits as the case maybe )

i am more interested in income than capital gains

take MQG in 2011 as an example , i bought down from $31.93 to $20 , now yes i made a newbie error , but it was i was buying a set number of shares each time NOT $ value on the way down ( 7 buys in 2011 )

from my ( limited ) experience unicorns pop up where you least expect then , often stale, boring stocks that suddenly catch to eye of the fund managers , stocks like Blackmores , TNE , NST , SNL, even DTL for a while

now TUA you could see the potential if you were patient ,

good luck and stay alert , sometimes you only get the briefest hint

Sad sight this morning was a baby minor bird fell down from the roof of my building and landed on my terrace. Didn't seem to be ready to fly. It's two parents came down and squawked at it for a while to try and get it to use it's wings, but it was trapped and just hid behind the pot plants trying to escape my Moodle. In the end I had to throw a tea towel over it, pick it up, and put it on the edge of our wall to see what would happen. Ended up jumping off the ledge, 6 floors up, and flapped into the trees below. Although I hate minor birds, and it's pretty dumb to nest in the gutter of an apartment building, I'm feeling sorry for the parents who are still squawking on the terrace wondering what happened to their chick. Probably in bird heaven now.

In the meantime, I've added some more more SVL @0.08 (now ave 0.093) and MEI @0.09 (ave 0.104) to my minor stock holdings.

I really should go back to the cricket now.
