Hi, Can anyone help explain to me why Santos as an oil stock has not been performing so well as compared to Oil Search. I want to invest in either one or both, but am concerned why Santos is trading quite a way below the ASX 200 line on price charts for the past 3 months. I always thought Santos was considered to be a well valued stock. I've searched for information to explain this, but can't seem to find any.
Many Thanks, Capt.

Re: Santos/Oil Search ?

Between Sept 2004 and Sept 2005 STO almost doubled in price.
It has been consolidating since then and will break out again, but maybe not too soon.
OSH has the mooted "pipeline" to Oz in the melting pot, and will gain more and more upside the nearer to "crunch time", ie when the big announcement to proceed hits the market later this year (I think).
Hedge your bets: I't's oil - you can't lose.

Is Santos mainly gas?

Yes - Captain look at gas prices and how they've almost halved from their peak, and that will explain STO relative underperformace compared with OSH

Rederob - Its oil u cant lose, yes tend to agree, but best leverage in our market is WPL...
