Rugby League

Good morning,

The Kangaroos were given an almighty scare by New Zealand at Elland Road in Leeds on Saturday morning (AEST) as they clung on to beat the Kiwis 16-14 and become the first side to qualify for the World Cup final at Old Trafford next weekend.

Samoa completed one of the great sporting comebacks of all time to knock England out of the World Cup and earn a final showdown with Australia at Old Trafford next Saturday.

Four weeks after being humiliated 60-6 by England in the tournament opener in Newcastle, the Samoans turned the table in dramatic fashion with a golden point 27-26 semi-final victory at the Emirates Stadium.

Centre Stephen Crichton was the match winner, kicking a 40-metre drop goal in the fourth minute of extra time, to add to his two tries and three conversions.

Test footy is back!!!

Good evening
Rugby League World Cup Men's (Kangaroos) Australia v Samoa, 2am Sunday 20 November at Old Trafford, Manchester.
Ashley Klein will be the referee.

Team lists need renumbering.

The Rock provides inspiration to the Samoa team via video. Nice work Rock, not sure that it will do any good but anyways good job.

Womans final will be played between Australian (Jillaroos) and New Zealand tomorrow night (19/11/22) at 11.15pm
Old Trafford, Manchester. Australia did just beat NZ by two points in the pool game leading into the Semi's.

Belinda Sharp will be the referee.

The World Cup is being broadcast exclusively on Fox Sports and online streamer Kayo in Australia.
Unfortunately, that means no games on free-to-air television.

Have a very nice weekend.

Good evening
rcw1 beloved Cowboys will be rolling out the red-carpet in an effort to keep 19 year old Jeremiah Nanai at the Cowboys. What an absolution sensation this year, he has been for the Cowboys, Queensland and Australia.

Nanai only signed a one-year deal earlier this season with the Cowboys, now making him a free agent.

Since November 1, New Corp has revealed he has fielded several monster offers, with one Sydney-based club tabling a five-year deal worth $800,000 for the first three seasons and $900,000 for the remaining two – a $4.2 million package.

Hoping the Cowboys will secure Nanai's signature upon his return to Australia after the World Cup.

Good morning
Media has David Fifita going to hook up again with big Wayney at Redcliffe. Big dramas when Fifita left Broncos to go to the Gold Coast on a squillion dollars... Didn't quite work out with his performances second rate at times.
Do believe the Gold Coast will release, and Bennett will get his big ticket player in Fifita. Reckon Wayne will get the best out of him.

No sure though this one is a given yet. Time will surely tell. In the wash up of it all Fifita needs to lift in more ways than one. rcw1 will watch him with anticipation ...

Have a great weekend.

Good afternoon
Thankfully the NRL season about to begin. Climbing walls …

rcw1 will be at Qld Country Bank Stadium Saturday 4 March for round one, the game against the Raiders. You all should hear rcw1 ha ha ha

So then who out there has an opinion on who is going to win the 2023 NRL GF???

rcw1 will go first:
The Cowboys
Why? one eyed supporter ha ha ha ha
Real reasons: 1). another year after being eliminated in the prelim final the players will be much the wiser as to what it takes to win a NRL flag. 2) Their spine will be better for another year on together 3). Managed to keep the 2022 squad largely intact 4). What a Leader - Chad Townsend and 5) What a coach - Todd Payten.

Player to look out for:
A no name … from what rcw1 has witnessed the kid do on a footy paddock, has ability and the ball in his court as to what will happen next. rcw1 rates Tom Chester. Interesting ? if Payten gives Chester opportunity after blooding him in the 17 last year.

Was at the Cowboys Season Launch on Friday. Listened to Matt Scott, a Longreach product, speak after being accepted into the prestigious Cowboys Hall of Fame. Gotta say definitely one of the best speeches delivered by a footballer let alone a front rower … Such a great man … so humble.

A lot of elite players aren't so dumb nowadays.

Hardly keep much of an eye on RL anymore nowadays.

Still think the Storm will be top 4.

Penrith will be knocked down a notch or two.

Roosters will be strong.

FWIW.

My predictions for the end of year ladder.
1 Sydney Roosters
2 Melbourne Storm
3 Cronulla Sharks
4 Penrith Panthers
5 North Queensland Cowboys
6 South Sydney Rabbitohs
7 Brisbane Broncos
8 Eels
9 Canterbury Bulldogs
10 Manly Sea Eagles
11 Gold Coast Titans
12 Canberra Raiders
13 Wests Tigers
14 The Dolphins
15 New Zealand Warriors
16 Newcastle Knights
17 St George Illawarra Dragons

Glad I ignored reading this post till now.
Great result but ordinary game.
Gotta cut down on forward passes and staging for penalties.

Reminded me again what a tough game it is.

Enjoy the W/E

The first two night games have been very close, but somehow a little flat.

Low scoring, defensive games.

Maybe I just need to warm up into the new season?

so then NRL newcomers Redcliffe matching it with the silvertails ... going into the sheds 12 all... at half time, who would have thought possible. Makes for an interesting 2nd half, wonder if Redcliffe can match the roosters in the second half ....

cannot remember a greater upset in NRL, PreNRL rugby league history than this one... Redcliffe Dolphins 28 Sydney Roosters 18. Wayne Bennett and Kristian Woolf ... well well well .... could be a partnership made in heaven. Early days but and anything could happen, but what a great start to their inaugural season. Kaufusi and the Bromwich boys, take a bow...

Tedesco media interview straight after the game... he wasn't all that gracious towards Redcliffe. Maybe not too impressed with his team, like to think anyways... still pumped...
