We even know who did it and it sux that they have not yet been arrested and our stuff is still there.....

We lost lots of stuff, but the worst was our laptop that temporarily had all our photos on it..... plus a wedding ring,,,all the other crap is replacable....

Almost every person I know has been burgled, had someone close to them burgled.....why oh why are we as a nation so soft on these people..... as anyone who has been burgled knows , it leaves you feeling, sick, violated and unsafe in your own home.....the first night we couldne even stay here, too much mess and finger prints had to be done......the second night the kids and us kept waking all night......

I seriously think the worst thing about this entire nation is that our homes are no longer safe havens and sanctuaries where we can feel safe and secure.....these scumbags have deprived us all of a feeling of security and safety...... Im proposing that anyone who has ever been robbed , especially those recently lets start making suggestive noises like this on the forums and chat ares your involved in for just one to two weeks and see if we can get our stinking weak gutless politicians to turn ourr homes back into sanctuaries....

Anyone who breaks into your home should get 5-25 years depending on age and priors....it just should be a barrier that is not tollerated by society even 1 tiny bit.....irrispective of age....the juvinile offenders act that lets them away with everything needs revoking....

Its a horrible feeling...ive been in Sydney 10 years and been robbed (broken into) twice, feel relived every time i come home from work and the door knob isn't busted...its a terrible way to live...but that's life in the Grinding parts of Sydney.

Cheer up condog

What would be disconcerting is knowing you were being watched prior to the theft.

I have never had my house broken into but I can imagine it must be the worst feeling, I think public lynchings of the responsible.

So sorry to hear that, Condog. It must be a quite horrible feeling.

We've never been burgled, and I don't know anyone who has been either.

I remember when I was living in NZ and there were repeated burglaries in a particular affluent area. The victims would just get everything replaced and then they'd be done over again. Eventually the police caught the culprits, searched their place and found a detailed map of the area where there was a large cross through each property which had a dog.

That shouldn't, however, inspire anyone to get a dog just as protection of the property.

All the best, Condog. Is it practical to get more security?

Heard were they get remote door control from any hardware and ride up and down the street pushing a button until a roller door opens...I had a sign on door telling them to turn off alarm before entering...now I have a colt 45 and a flick knife here if you get robbed the cops come around and say sorry for not doing their job and under orders to shoot crook's to save money in jail and feeding them if caught in a house..This wil get worse as things get tighter

We got burgled with two big huskies, albeit sooky ones.

After that put on an alarm - so far so good...........

Thanks for your support , it is horrible, its our second time and its the most violated feeling you can imagine.....

But if its happening to so many people and the majority of people feel so strongly that its a morally onjectionable act, why is that in no way reflected in the sentencing......

I have it on reliable advice that with limited priors they will not do any time, with significant priors or good behaviour probation they might do 6 months at best......

When do we the citizens of this fine country take back the right to feel safe in our own homes, to come home and know our house is safe.......If we all sit back and simply let the next poor victim suffer then its just going to continue to get worse.....

PS : see how bad this is Im back up at 1.40 am and this is the 3rd night since....kids have woken me twice......it really sux not feeling safe in your own home.....

The alarms and cameras are in the post.....cost me over $1000, which is fine cause I have a $1000 but most people dont and they have the right to feel safe mor ethen these scum have the right to burgle and walk free or get minimal time....surely????

We really aught to put these bastards to work to make society a better place, not let them off or incarcerate them for a month....

It really is time that the residents of this country demand the right to know the house is sacred and off limits to crooks....that it is a moral boundry that is unacceptable to society and that breaching that standard will carry very significant punishment......If all the do gooders think 20 years gaol is too much then what about 5 years community service doing hard labour, cleaning graffitti, cleaning crime scenes etc.... Make them work with the police so they see the other side of the fence... make them clean up crime so they see the impact on victims....

So sorry to hear about your burglary Condog - thats awful.

I have to agree, alarms are the best, and good neighbours

I was burgled in UK, but nothing personal, just TV etc. It does affect you more than you think so I can certainly sympathize. My parents were burgled years ago, in fact my Dad came home early with the Flu and caught him. He got attacked with a knife, luckily he overpowered him and through him through a glass door. The guy ran off but had to call an ambulance as he was bleeding to death. Justice was done as he only got a slap on the wrist from the courts.

My parents have been burgled since and had all their personal stuff taken (things handed down from parents, grandparents etc. The police said they new who it was but wouldn't tell us who, as I would have just gone round with some mates and taken it back. I was back in England a couple of months ago and everybody is so security conscious it is not funny.

We live in New Zealand and we hardly ever lock the door, never mind put the alarm on. We often come back from a weekend away having left the garage door up, but we are 99% confident nothing will be taken. That is just how everybody is round here.

You know who it is Condog so why not go round and take back what is yours ? You can always get some muscle from somewhere. It is a shame it needs to come to this but unfortunately the law protects these scum bags so vigilante groups will continue to rise.

Sorry to hear about your break in Condog.

Next door to me was robbed recently, I had video surveillance footage of the two young guys plus the car they used. The footage wasn't crystal clear so it was hard to identify them - although I think with a little background work by the Police they probably could have narrowed in on them.

Next door neighbor had more problems with the insurance company v's the actual break in.

I suspect that unless you 1) Know the person 2) Have number plate ID of car and 3) have clear photos or footage of them undertaking the deed (or your property is found in their possession), then it will be difficult to prosecute.

The Police are wrapped up in plenty of other higher priority work to keep them occupied, hence many burglaries go unsolved.

Nasty feeling being burgled.

You said you know who it is. Well you can get the police on them can't you?

Being burgled may depend on where you live. Areas where the socio-economic background of residents isn't high may have higher rates of burglary.

It could be that we're in tough economic times that the rate of burglary is higher as people get desperate.

I've been burgled once, way back ... about 4 years ago. Since then we put a light out the front that turns on when movement is detected, and we put an alarm on every night before we go to bed.

Nothing has happened since.

I once disturbed a robbery at my home, chased him down the lane. He got away...

5-20 years is a bit harsh. 2+ is enough. I'd rather see penalties for rape increased... but, it sux that you were burgled. You'll feel better, it just takes time. I don't understand why the police can't do anything if you know who it is?

Sorry to hear of your loss Condog, I havent been burgled but know a few who have, I actually got four cheap security cameras from dick smiths and sit them in the windows, also a good deterent, If someone robs a bank or federal institution the punishment is higher than for taking a life or raping someone, but if your house gets burgled its a slap on the wrist if the keystone cops are lucky enough to catch them, nice to know what our Legal system and Government values most hey.

Those rights went out the window when our government decided people cannot use "self defense" as a genuine reason to own a firearm.

To me that says it all, the crim can do what the fk he likes and we law abiding citizens can take it up the ass.

A burglar loves it today as he knows 99% of homes are unarmed. Cameras and alarms are just full of wank. A 12g loaded with buckshot would have him thinking twice.

It is a horrible feeling. We have had two attempted break ins - windows smashed in 1 attempt, the other occurred just as hubby was arriving home and he saw a guy about to smash the glass of our sliding door out back with an iron bar. Not wanting to be injured himself, he yelled and yelled just to get rid of him, while dialling 000 at the same time - which of course, did not answer.

But the worst was when they did gain entry, and stole the kids computer game set up, our computer equipment, a digital camera, and rifled through my 'smalls' drawer where I had my late mother-in-laws jewellery and some of my jewellery which they stole. I didnt realise about the latter until I was on the phone to the Insurance company to report it, and for some reason I pulled back my quilt - and while on the phone realised they had dumped the contents of this drawer onto the bed. I broke down while talking to the Insurance Lady - just like those ads on TV. And of course, hubby was away on work that week so I did not sleep a wink.
But the worst thing was, the house had been auctioned the week before, and given that the burglar knew EXACTLY where everything was, they had obviously come through during the open inspections and cased the place.

We had suspicions as to who had done it; we had seen a beaten up car parked during the week before - we lived in a very affluent suburb at the time and the car looked wrong. Somehow, hubby managed to track the owners down; they lived in a very run down suburb, but which was on the main road that near our house. The Police wouldnt even listen to us and make enquiries.

I should add, we have a burglar alarm which stopped the first attempt. But in the actual breakin, they knew exactly how not to trip it off, until just towards the end while breaking out.

Horrible feeling.

Agree Ageo, I have a rifle in the house, knives, golf clubs etc, the trouble is you have to be at home at the time to use them, a lot of these ar*ewipes will usually work an area and pick targets of opportunity when people arent home, as Julia mentioned earlier they will will often know who has dogs, who hasnt, when dad goes to work, when mum takes the kids out etc etc, most people have daily routines that could be worked out. Its about time our justice system placed some value on our lives.

Another thing, if you buy a house that has had previous owners, get a locksmith in to change all the locks, cost me $180 in April when I bought this place, it had been a rental before that, you never know who still has keys.

I have to agree very horrible feeling.

It must be much worse for you though as you have kids!

For me i live on the first floor of a building, and it is very easy to climb onto my verandah and try to gain access.

I've awoken a few times to the clang of my metal verandah as people try to enter. I have several pubs down the road, so there is always some idiot trying to make an attempt.

I have come to a simple conclusion however, If you enter my property, be prepared to fight to the death. I have a club under my bed if need be, and a switch blade, and i will use it if the intruder is armed. I couldn't give a crap about what the law says, its my life im protecting.

So if you enter my property you better be prepared. But i hope it never comes to that.

Good attitude.

My brother in law lives in affluent Annandale, Sydney, but Housing Commision flats across the park from him, he has been burgled numerous times.

Ended up getting heavy duty lockable bar security door and window fitments, no more since then.

Probably cost him a few thousand, but if ur serious, that would be the way to go..he had been robbed at least 5 times in a few years.

I suspect once done over, you remain on the robbers hit list, especially as they know new insurance goods will be in place
