Israel - Palestine

As sad as the Israel/ Gaza war is compared to World War Two it is just a mere skirmish. As bad as that statement may sound the facts in this link gives the truth -
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_casualties#:~:text=Deaths directly caused by the,war-related disease and famine.

World War II was the deadliest military conflict in history. An estimated total of 70–85 million people perished, or about 3% of the estimated global population of 2.3 billion in 1940.[1] Deaths directly caused by the war (including military and civilian fatalities) are estimated at 50–56 million, with an additional estimated 19–28 million deaths from war-related disease and famine. Civilian deaths totaled 50–55 million. Military deaths from all causes totaled 21–25 million, including deaths in captivity of about 5 million prisoners of war.

The Soviet Union lost around 27 million people during the war, including 8.7 million military and 19 million civilians. This represents the most military deaths of any nation by a large margin.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people have hoisted themselves on the Palestinian bandwagon as the demonise the Israelis.
Israel is no shining light, but it is at least a democracy of sort, something you cannot say about the other inhabitants of that miasma in the middle east.
The keffiyeh wearing set have awfully woful memories.
As we approach the Olympic games, we should recall the attack by the PLO on Munich in 1972 in which 11 Israeli athletes were killed.
Then there was the 1983 Pan Am hijacking in Karachi when 20 passengers were killed and over 100 wounded by the Abu Nidal Palestinian group.
In 1985, simultaneous attacks at airports in Vienna and Rome again by Abu Nidal killed another 19 people and wounded 140.
In 1973, the Black September PLO organisation at Rome airport killed 32 and wounded a further 50.
In 1975 Carlos the Jackal led a PFLP attack on OPEC headquarters that killed 3 and just for good measure took 60 hostages that were held to ransom.
Greece 1978, and the PFLP attacked a bus killed 9 people and injured 53.
In 1981 in coordinated bomb attacks on Synagogues in Vienna and Munich, PLO terrorists killed 9 people and injured 220.
In 1985, the PLO hijacked the cruise liner Achile Lauro and killed an American tourist and held the ship the crwe and its passengers hostage for two days.
Greece 1974 and TWA flight was bombed by the PLO that killed all 88 passengers and crew.
The Israelis are no angels, but the Palestinians are no better.

Screw that warmonger. Hope this isn't a prep to tear down Iran via war. They have destabilised every country in the middle East.

I wonder if we miraculously get info that Trump’s assassination attempt was backed by Iran.

Yeah, the altruist Iranians, perfect petals they are, are just trying to spread love and understanding throughout the word.

And that nasty Israel, rejecting all those aerial peace offerings from themselves and their brothers in peace, The Houthis, Hezbollah, Islamic Resistance in Iraq. They were just trying to be friends :p

They can have the middle east and blast one another as much as they want.

That is first

That is first order thinking which may seem reasonable on the face of it. Such an attitude taken to its ultimate conclusion would result in the obliteration of Israel and the genocide (and I mean an actual genocide, not the political mind games that are playing out at the moment) of the Jewish people.

I don't pretend that I would know the consequences of that in a detailed fashion, but it would be an extreme negative for western culture, I am sure.

... Perhaps absolutely disastrous for the planet.

As far as dead body counts go the Israelis are winning by a mile particularly in dead women and children surely we can applaud them for that effort saving western civilization (sarcasm).

There is zero chance Israel will get erased. They have made alliances UAE, Saudi, Jordan,.
It looks to be a westernised version of the middle East they all have in mind.
They could erase whoever threatened them.

That of course is the practical reality, and prevented only *because of Israel's alliances. Otherwise they would be goners. How do you think it would be fairing without American and British weapon systems?

It is so easy to lose perspective of the humanity that has been relentlessly destroyed in Gaza. Who are these people ? Faceless names ? Terrorists or friends of terrorists or people who live close to terrorists ?

These are the people of Gaza. It's a harrowing read

‘Every moment we live must be documented’: A doll, letters and keys help displaced Gazans hold onto their identity

CNN —

The final lick of paint was barely dry on the newly built, white-tiled Al-Hasanat home when the war in Gaza erupted in October.

For three-year-old Ayten, the apartment in central Gaza was a source of immense pride. “This is our beautiful house,” she would say to anyone who would listen, her father, Ahmed Al-Hasanat, recounted.

But two weeks after the family moved into their new home, they were forced to flee the besieged Al-Mughraqa neighborhood, said Al-Hasanat. When they returned in November, they found their apartment badly damaged by Israeli strikes. A doll belonging to Ayten lay among the rubble, peeking out from behind a broken door.

“I cried for my area, my house, and everything around me,” Al-Hasanat told CNN in June. “Ayten said, ‘Our beautiful house is gone, Dad.’ Then I entered the apartment and brought her the doll.

“She said, ‘Daddy, my doll died.’”

After more than nine months of fighting in Gaza, the plush toy is now a precious reminder of the lives they led before the war. The Israeli military offensive has torn families apart, erased entire communities and reduced cultural sites to debris. Almost the entire population – up to 1.9 million people – has been displaced, according to the United Nations. Several Palestinians told CNN they could take only their most significant personal items on long and hazardous journeys of displacement.

Israel is the10th largest weapons manufacturer. They develop some of the most cutting edge technology.
Also have CEOs in most major companies.

We don't need anymore wars. I was at the kids football games over the weekend and the thought of the young men's lives getting wasted on old men's greed was something that stuck in my mind.
Everyone shouldn't have to be touched by that kind of useless violence.
But the west definitely needs to make a stand against it.

Personally I think our governments have been corrupted.

@moXJO Just wander back down memory lane a few decades ago when the Pomie Generals were running the show.
Upper class stuffed shirts just using the Colonial youth as cannon fodder.
Though I do wonder what has really changed since those tragic days.
Vietnam a disaster in strategy,
Then of course the days of George W and our very own Deputy Sherrif, hanging off every word of that fool.
Perhaps not that much has really changed.

Rules should be put in place that every politician, lobbyist, Billionaire that spruiks for war either goes on the front line direct combat to fight. Or their kids are forced on the front line to fight. Unless it's in direct defence of the country.

People wouldn't be treated as expendable I'd bet.

But in reality that would never happen as pollies deem themselves to be too valuable asset here at home.
Their offspring would no doubt be saved from the rigors of front line activity as no doubt a clause excusing them would suddenly surface

How the icon of U.S liberal newspapers chose to present the lethal Hezbollah rocket attack.
Not worth its own headline and conflated with Israel's attack on Hezbollah.
