Israel - Palestine

I don't how people cannot separate Jews / Israeli's from Netanyahu's government.

Netanyahu is leading the most extremist governments in Israel's history such is his desperation to hold power and stay out of jail.

Some of his leading ministers in this whole debacle are convicted criminals, the security failures on Oct 7th were the worse in Israel's history and any normal PM would have been gone Oct 8th.

Scary that he is so much like Trump.

PS. 4 Corners has had a good look at this and asked the hard questions.

The underlying Advertisment Bar below your post at the time of reading was in Hebrew, from a cabinet maker, as best I could make out located in Israel, funnily enough. Coffins in demand ATM I'd guess.
So to the Hebrew speaking audience of the thread I present ...... UN resolution 242.... I believe it had underlying 'wide' support. Might be worth another look.
Be nice one day soon to see Netanyahu in a glass box in a court room. I can hear the words of his defence; 'I was only giving orders'

Interesting you don't have the same thing to say about Haniyeh.

Abduction and assault charges have been laid against one of the anti-Israel lobby’s highest profile campaigners in Australia.
Magistrate Carolyn Howe on Tuesday lifted a suppression order affecting Laura Allam, who has had a national profile fighting for the Palestinian cause.

She is facing charges over alleged kidnapping, false imprisonment, common law assault, unlawful assault by kicking and unlawful assault.

Ms Allam, 27, is one of the highest profile pro-Palestinian campaigners in Melbourne, headlining events, including a rally outside Parliament House in Canberra in February.

Another activist, Mohammad Sharab, 37, has been charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment, threats to kill, intentionally causing injury and unlawful assault in relation to the same incident in Melbourne’s west.

The Australian revealed last week that a third person, 25, also had been charged but that person’s identity remains suppressed. He was charged with a range of offences, including kidnapping, false imprisonment, armed robbery and assault-related offences.

Why are these terrorists. even allowed to be here.
Is it because the legal system appears to be looking favourably upon them instead of what they do and stand for.
Boot them out to where they belong, that is, a long, long way from our shores.

Killing the messenger

As of January 30, 2024, the Israel–Hamas conflict has claimed the lives of at least 85 journalists, with 78 Palestinian, 4 Israeli, and 3 Lebanese casualties.[1][2][3] This toll, along with other acts of violence targeting journalists, marks the deadliest period for journalists in the Israeli–Palestinian conflict since 1992 and the deadliest commencement of a war for journalists in the 21st century.[4]

On 30 January 2024, the head of the Committee to Protect Journalists stated, "Israel's war on Gaza is more deadly to journalists than any previous war".[5][6] Israeli airstrikes additionally damaged or destroyed an estimated 48 media facilities in Gaza. Reporters Without Borders has reported that the Israeli army intentionally targeted Palestinian and Lebanese journalists.[7] In 2023, nearly 75% of world wide killed journalists died in Israel’s war in Gaza.[8]

Reuters journalist Issam Abdallah ‘killed by Israeli tank shell’

Human rights groups call for war crimes investigation after Israeli tank fired at journalists in Lebanon

... The weapon that killed Abdallah was a 120mm shell, which is used by the Israeli military on its Merkava tanks, multiple weapons experts consulted by the different investigators found. A tail fin from the munition was found near his body.

Hezbollah is not known to have tanks and the Lebanese army’s largest calibre tank round is 105mm, Reuters said. It was likely to have been fired from the south-east, near the Israeli village of Jordeikh, where Israeli tanks were operating, the investigations found.

International law forbids targeting journalists, and the group had chosen a spot for filming on an open hillside where they were clearly visible. They were all wearing blue helmets and flak jackets with “Press” markings, and had been in the same place for nearly an hour.

There was no militant activity in the immediate area, the reports said. Intense military surveillance in the border area means the group would have been clearly visible to commanders.

That the same group were hit twice in quick succession makes an accidental shooting unlikely, the weapons experts said.

“The strikes were deliberate and targeted,” AFP said. “They arrived within 37 seconds of each other and just a few metres apart. The journalists were clearly identified as press, away from any military activity. The Israeli army has extensive aerial surveillance resources in the area.”

I will be meeting Amit at the Ponderosa on the weekend to do some welding for him. I doubt very much we will be talking about Oct 7 at all, but I'm a bit blown away about being a single degree of separation from that massacre. FWIW.

No, born CoE, but Non Denom these days. Have always had Jewish friends though.
My step brothers father was Jewish but he converted to Buddhism.
Jewish are academically in the top % of the world and have brought a lot of innovation to the world. Some brilliant minds amongst them.

There's a heavy problem when any religion is based around being "the chosen ones". Especially when "goyim" are viewed as less than. That's unfortunately where real atrocities can be committed in self righteous belief.

For a tiny minority they are over represented in the political class. While the Muslim faith can be a destructive force. The Jewish faith has real money and power behind it.
Do a deep dive.

You have fallen for the folly of believing in sort of univocality of Judaism, but nothing could be further from the truth.

In the religious sense you have everything from secular atheist, traditional but atheist, traditional religious, orthodox, ultra orthodox, Hasidic, Kabbalic, to Messianic.

Everything from communists, the socialist kabutzim, centrists, traditional capitalists, globalists etc.

Soros is a Jew, but so is the poor schmuck growing potatoes on a kibbutz for food and board, as are the various small business owners, just like the rest of us.

There is no "The Jews". They are all as separate as we "Christians" are.

I can absolutely eviscerate the likes of Soros, Mate, Chomsky and others to my friends' face and have them agree with me.

Yes there are evil Jews, just like evil everyone else, but I reiterate, it's not "The Jews"

It's not so much as saying "they're evil".
It's the religious aspect. Same as the religious aspect of Islam. It still follows the principle message. Even if you are atheist you are still viewed as having a "Jewish essence".

They still follow doctrine and identify/viewed as the singular. Either side will rush to defend atrocities. Anything that elevates you against another class of people can be problematic.

There were "good" nazis, "good" communists. But the atrocities didn't just happen because of a few bad ones. Silence, complicity, fear, identity, group think, all play a part. Propaganda often used as a tool to influence the groups thinking into action.

I have a problem with ideologies that harm the world. I'll defend anyone's right to practice what they see fit, to the point it starts harming others.

I do not support the way Palestine thinks or the actions that they take. I understand Israelis right to defend its homeland.
But you have two ideologies that think they are "The ones". It spews out into the rest of the world.

Seeing as we seem to have entered the @#$&ing twilight zone with regards to those conflict:

Trump isn't happy either. From yesterday.

And American Jews aren't happy either, from a few days ago:

This month, 145 American Jewish leaders publicly distanced themselves from a member of the Israeli government, saying Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich was not welcome in the United States.

The question is whether Israel wants the finish the job a tell the international community to GFT, or appease the international community and set themselves up for another Oct 7 down the track.

I say finish the job and rout Hamas good and proper. Appeasement only serves the political agendas of countries other than themselves.

I don't know if he wants to finish the job. He is blocking aid to the north while the starvation continues and yet hasn't done anything much for weeks.

Its just poor implementation or possibly something more sinister. If he can't get his act together then he needs to implement a ceasefire, move the population, bring buses if necessary, set up concentration camps, feed the populace then go back in and finish the job.

I think everyone is sick of it.
