Australian (ASX) Stock Market Forum

Beginners - Introduce yourselves!

I have this dilemma...do i buy shares or take out 30 year loan and buy real estate instead?
@adamjedgar some things to consider in making your decision.
- the time impact on your life for each
- your personal feeling of security with each type of investment
- the ratio of the amount you invest to the knowledge you have of the type of investment

I personally did both. It has taken me a lot longer to gain the required knowledge needed for share investment but I started without using any capital, then went to a small account when I was ready. While I was learning to trade I was slowly but surely increasing my net worth with real estate.

The best way for you to go will depend on the type of person that you are, be true to yourself and your answers will be clear to you. Hope this helps.

Hi im Jason, new comer in trade world, planning to learn about trading first before jump to the real situation.
Hello Jason. From my perspective get a note pad and pen and trade on paper only, for period of time to see how things roll about. Cost nothing to learn. Pick stocks you like. Good luck, and keep posting. Plenty of knowledgeable people in the forum.

Yep l am new here, but have a lot of experience at the markets US and here.

💰

Getting new reading glasses tomorrow, so perhaps there woun't be as many typos made by me from then on !!!!!
a different external keyboard for this laptop would be more effective for me ( in reducing typos )

no point boosting the economy by buying a new laptop this laptop ( and it's older back-up ) are quite functional for what i need them for ( give or take failing keyboards )

BTW the reading glasses for me isn't a big deal it is about blood pressure and the eye corneas , and annoyingly the spectacles that work best were prescribed for my grandmother .... in 1946 !!

5 freaking trips to the optometrists and the the best ones were made before i was born ( gold-rimmed to boot )

good luck with the glasses !!

Welcome to the forum Mick, you said "I'm hoping to learn some things", well I'm not an expert on learning but I've found that when I learn something new it's good to get the same or similar information from another place. Getting more than one view about it can better your own understanding.

welcome to ASF

an old guy named Warren Buffet , had many useful quotes

one that will help you is 'invest in what you know '

your experience in property with be helpful navigating REITs ( property trusts ) and your trade experience should help in industrial stocks and companies that deal in hardware/construction supplies and you may have had dealings with some of those listed companies , which might help sort the well-run ones from the clown-shows

when investing , i view it from the angle that i am buying a ( tiny ) part of the business , so would you want to buy a partnership in that business ??

but don't panic it is a steep learning curve , with lots of traps and oodles to learn ( eventually )

BTW 'cold feet ' is sometimes a good thing , it stops you from being too greedy ( a LITTLE bit of greed is good , too much and you normally go bust
)

good luck
