Australian Politics General...

"Canberra we have a problem".

From the article:

In short:

ADF members who encourage someone to join the military will receive $1,000 if the recruit completes 12 months of service.

Veterans' Affairs Minister Matt Keogh says the initiative is "one of many options" being explored by the federal government.

What's next?

The program will begin within a month and will be trialled for two years as Defence tries to grow the number of uniformed personnel.

Earlier this year, then-defence chief General Angus Campbell outlined the extent of the Australian military's chronic workforce crisis, confirming to parliament it was nearly 7 per cent under strength and was continuing to shrink.

Not surpriisng seeing how some of the ADF folks have been treated by the government and the media.
the government sends them in to conflicts they should not be in, then bags them when things go astray.
War vets constantly strugging to deal with the ridiculously bloated public service.
Accioding to the DVA website , in June 2022, about 247,000 Veterans were receiving support from the DVA, which has over 3,000 staff throughout the country. the staff could devote 1 full day per year to each vet and still have enough days left for public and annual holidays, rdo's, domestic violence leave, bereavement leave, and long service leave.
And that does not include the other agencies mentioned on the DVA website, like the Repatriation Commission, the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission , the Veterans Review Board, the Repatriation Medical Authority, or the Specialist Medical review Council.

Australia now has one of our lowest birth rates on record, affecting the sustainability of our economy into the future.

Generations of reliance on immigrants to boost productivity is now showing cracks. A lot of immigrants are on welfare rather than engaged in nation building.

What to do?
Don't make the situation worse by increasing permanent immigration for starters.

If we need tradies, architects etc to build more housing, fine, but when they have finished the job they leave.

Educate more Australians better so we don't have to rely on imported skills.

Politicians of all sides are to blame for this, they all need to get a grip on long term outcomes, not political expedience.

Australia has been "captured" by short term thinkers and the self-interested.

Problems from housing to energy to the decline of live music to the hopelessness felt by many all come down to that. The short termers have captured control of society and stuffed pretty much everything with their poor attitude and sheer incompetence. :2twocents

Although most of the discussion on freebies and upgrades has occurred within the Albo thread, plenty of people like Bridget Mckenzie, Jane Hume etc on the other side are scrambling to fix up their non disclosures.
Leak sums it up beautifully.
All the elites are in it.

Bridget Mackenzie was one of the many coalition pollies who piled on Albo over the QANTAS upgrade hypocrisy.
But n the ultimate example of hypocrisy, it seems the charming Bridget has been caught out not declaring a bunch of her own free upgrades.
Politicians, even less trustworthythan used car salesmen.

All very easy, if you are found out, just correct the record.

Maybe suspension from the Senate with a loss of pay may be a deterrent.

So now that the US election appears to be done and dusted, what is the Australian Government going to do with our US ambassador, one K Rudd.
It is the same K Rudd who made the following observations:

and then

Trump has zero interest in Foreign affairs, but he will not have forgottebn Trumps Jibes.
I hope like hell the rest of us don't get blackballed because of his diplomatic big mouth.

And hot on the heels of the charming Bridget's frank admissions about snouts in the trough, we get a nice lecture by one of the Teals about transparency.

This is very laudable that she thinks that we should declare any upgrades.
Unfortunately, it never occurred to the charming former director of Nuerology at the RCH that in fact she should have declared her free Virgin Beyond Club membership, as it was not in her register of gifts.
But then, it seems that the entering of the doors of parliament immediately bestows a cloak of hypocrisy that covers the transparency meme completely.

It seems that K Rudd has thought it prudent that he remove some rather scathing criticism of the incoming US president.
the image of an open gate with a horse running off into the distance comes to mind.
