Australian Politics General...

Basic problem is politics is as far removed from science as it gets.

Of all occupations, it's hard to think of one that engages in more denial of factual evidence than politics. :2twocents
That really only applies to the hard sciences, especially biology at this point in time.

There are of course the so-called soft sciences - gender ideology, economics, psychology and such like. One might include these and what we might call the dark arts. I believe that these are expertly applied, especially by the left.

The lack of specific technical ability wouldn't be a problem, if they actually acknowleged it and sought expert advice.

Currently the main driver of any issue is party ideology, or plain bloody mindidness, to oppose the opposition for electoral gain and both sides engage in it.

Politics in Australia is an anchor on society, IMO they should be ashamed of themselves, we would all be better served if they adopted a more constructive debating model rather than the current slanging match, which is now entrenched and becoming an anchor on Australias economic growth.

What the politicians don't seem to grasp is we have sold all the low hanging fruit, eg floated and devalued the currency to make our wages more competitive, offshored all our manufacturing to cash in on the advantage of cheap imported goods, destroyed our education system to make it a sausage machine to generate money, now we have to work out how to maintain the living standard as the population increases and we have nothing to trade off.

Politicians need to get a long term focus and quickly IMO.

Barry Jones one time Science Minister also the bloke who headed up the Commission for the Future has a timely piece in todays 'Saturday Paper' on Democracy in Australia...
A melding of Science, Politics and Society.
yes it's behind a pay wall, but if you all pool together a dollar each, if that's not to much of a stretch, and buy a hard copy you can share it between yourselves. .... Av a good weekend. sorry to be uplifting.

How are you enjoying Canberra?
Even old Barry struggled with politics, he was better in the quiz shows, a very smart guy and a Labor stalwart always under appreciated by the pack.

Yet another example of where politicians can't keep their egos out of technical issues and leave things to experts, absolute dicks IMO.

I would think Michelle Bullock would be under enough personal pressure, without this sort of nonsense, Phil Lowe was crucified, now it looks like it's her turn.

Is there any wonder Australia is heading around the S bend, political gain over sound technical advice, is the current mantra IMO.
Populist politics.

The greens are going "full retard". They are being encouraged by the mass amount of idiots in Victoria. Literally a disaster in the making.

Its really dumb politics, the Greens would know that the demand wouldn't be met so I wonder what the point is?

At this point pretty much everything of a physical nature, by which I'm referring to manufacturing, utilities, public works departments, TAFE and so on has already been done over by politics.

Now it seems they're moving on to the more arcane and less public things like the RBA.

The common theme is anything involving technical knowledge, regardless of the discipline, has been or is now a target. :2twocents

They are really running after populist topics with really dumb stuff. I noticed the shift a while back and they really started to push it when the cfmeu blew up at Labor. They are trying to rinse votes out of Labor dissatisfaction.

I don't think suggesting politicians should set interest rates, will win any votes, the general public rank politicians with lawyers, oh hang on most of them are lawyers. Lol

So Albo and his merry band of NWO sock puppets just signed us up to this. It won't be long now before 2+2 will equal 5, Komrades.

I think the Govt is on a winner by limiting the number of negative geared properties an investor can have, a much better idea than the half arsed idea taken to the 2019 election, the real laugh is the media is obviously getting in a panic that they may bring it in.
Good on Labor if they do IMO.

This was said to include a cap on the number of properties investors can negatively gear and capital gains tax exemptions.

There are things Labor is doing that are absolutely atrocious for rights and freedoms. Then there are things they are doing that are common-sense and I agree with. Standard of living gone to sht but the budget getting pulled into line.

They are lucky they have Dutton in opposition.

Hey @IFocus, this is the guy who supported the mantra, "There are too many leaners and not enough lifters", he isn't as silly as he is cabbage looking IMO. ;)

IMO, this headline absolutely nails it.
Sums up the situation in Australian politics perfectly IMO.
Small target, being stalked by a smaller brain IMO.
Neither of which seem to be grasping what aspirational middle class wage slaves are crying out for.
Talk about a political disconnect, Canberra has lost complete touch with reality IMO.

There's something strange happening across the western world. There's an authoritarian model being laid over multiple countries. All similar and involve:
Internet censorship.
Mass immigration of culture that doesn't serve the community.
Energy supply madness.
Imprisonment over speech.
Food supply/farmers being targeted.
Education being hollowed out.

There's a host of other political moves. But it looks like a centralisation of power. Hopefully the people in Europe drag out the guillotines if it gets too bad.
