Victorian Politics

Well it seems Pesutto did not get his way, and a compromise suspension for nine months is Deemings punishment.
Already the "Change the leader" talk is on ( Brad Battin's supporters looking smug).
Dissarray is the word bandied around, though I can think of a few better ones.
Now that we have a sea of red OZ, the party apparatchiks can go the way of the dinosaurs.
The Nationals need to get out of the coalition and campaign for their constituents and focus on rural issues.
Hopefully the once great party started by Menzies just goes away and never comes back.
Maybe its time for the party once known as Liberal Democrats to gain traction, it looks like their leader John Ruddick will get elected into the NSW upper house.
Whatever happens, its going to be fun times ahead!

Yea, could happen after she is allowed back in.
I have heard Brad Batton speak. He is clueless and will definitely lose the next election.

Hopefully everyone will at least be on their best behaviour for 9 months and with the polls improving Pesutto will stay in charge.
I don't think Pesutto had a choice really, he couldn't let this stuff continue.

The Victorian electorate just want to see a semblance of an opposition so they can vote Dan Andrews out.

And you are right, the Nats are a well run team in Victoria being let down.

What stuff?

Trying to halt the erosion of women's rights is "stuff"? See this is why the Libs are in the shyte, for buying into the leftist narrative. It's bare faced misogyny.

Pesutto should have told the activists to STFU... and stop appropriating what isn't theirs.

Pesutto is a loser and can only win if Andrews screws right up (possible).

Stairman Dan is heading to China for 4 days, to talk about getting more Chinese spies, I mean students, into our universities. No media allowed. Maybe he'll pick up a few more red shirts while he's in Beijing. Or, sell off Wilson's Prom to pay for the tunnels that are $100b over budget.

Like I keep saying, Pesutto is toast and has effectively destroyed the Liberals chances at the next election. And has highlighted the malaise within the party and why I cannot vote for this party ever again.

Thread with series of excerpts from Credlin's show

On another subject in Victorian Politics, I wonder if Dan Andrews will raise the subject of a number of Australians that have been held without charge in Chinese Jails.
The Journalist Cheng Lei is a case in point.
Her partner pointedly asked Andrews if he was going to bring up her case, but Andrews said it would not be appropriate for State premiers to bring up such issues.
Thanks Dan.
Mick

Maybe he's negotiating the release of our journalists and freeing the weegers.

Maybe not...

One of the organisations that Daniel Andrews will meet on his first day in China was accused by the US government of seeking to “directly and malignly influence” state leaders.

In 2020, former secretary of state in the Trump administration, Mike Pompeo, pulled out of a deal that set up a US-China National Governors Forum over concerns the Chinese Peoples’ Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) was trying to undermine its “well-intentioned purpose”.

In a press statement at the time, Mr Pompeo said CPAFFC – described as a “Beijing-based organisation tasked with co-opting subnational governments” had “sought to directly and malignly influence state and local leaders to promote the PRC’s global agenda”.

According to a brief schedule provided by the Premier’s office on Tuesday afternoon, Mr Andrews was due to meet with CPAFFC’s vice president Li Xukui.

I reckon Dan the Man got that one wrong. Is frightened to upset the "hosts" with a hard question.

Fortunately Victoria has Dan the Man and even more fortunately here in WA we have Magnificent Mark, who will be in power for as long as he wants. No need to go cap in hand to China.

It would appear looking at it from afar that the Libs are now a finished party with not much in the way of solid members or stoich leaders.
Born to rule and now born to lose.

The Liberals are the ultimate example of what happens when a boys club mentality prevails rather than putting people in positions based on genuine merit.

Same happens in business. If I suspect a company with "born to rule" managers running it then suffice to say I don't want to be holding the shares when the inevitable happens.

The Liberals need a purge in a big way.

The Liberals will come back. Starting in QLD I reckon...

Peter Dutton has the Aston byelection in Victoria this weekend.
Spoke to his colleagues about learning from the Victorian opposition.
"We can see in Victoria at the moment, the damage that can be caused and the opportunities lost when we don't act as a team, and we talk about ourselves"

Labor need a swing of 2.6% to take the seat. I would be very surprised if they do.
They had Alan Tudge previously, not the most popular guy but they have one of the largest Chinese population in Australia (I think it is over 30%).

In fact I wouldn't be surprised if Dan Andrews didn't deliberately go on the China trip at this time in an attempt to get some Lib saying anti Chinese things. I note though they haven't fallen for the trap (so far). They may not like Dutton though.

Dutton is from Queensland not Victoria, and is the federal leader.
I doubt that too many people will vote on a local election based on a federal leader, but I could be wrong.

The person they have put up is a drop in, not from the area, unlike the opposition.
So she isn't going to be amazingly popular with the locals. Still should win though.

Rowhena Campbell is the Libs candidate. She beat a field that consisted of three women.
Wwell, thats good, we need more women in Parliament.
Three out of four of the candidates are women, so it is highly likely that a women will triumph.
So thats good.
She is a barrister.
Thats bad, we already have too many legal folk in parliament.
She is part Indian extraction.
This is good, as it means more diversity in parliament.
She is married to News Corps Political Editor James Campbell.
That will be problem, how will we know if the Political editor will remain out of things if her name comes up? (fat chance).
The labour candidate is, wait for it, a former Union organiser.
Thats bad. We already have too many ex Union reps in parliament, despite the inions representing less than 1 in 5 or the workforce.
The good folk of Ashton really don't have much in the way of diversity apart from the ethnicity.
