Ukraine War

And Trump is grateful to Putin for helping him financially.
I'm sure DB008 could post up something that shows Putin helped Biden financially, that's why I try not to get caught up in the personalities side of it. ;)

Yea, he would.
I understand why you don't want to know. It's old news anyway. Just a reminder.

I wish Reagan was still President. Honest, and would support a democracy.

I wish politicians were invested in furthering the country, rather than themselves, the World over.
That is one credit you have to give Xi, he has done a hell of a job lifting the Chinese out of poverty.
Hopefully the passive attitude continues, in a lot of ways it is the West that has got itself into this position, they can't really blame China for the Wests under investment in their own industries.

Not how I see it. Xi has done the opposite, abject failure. Autocratic ruler who has been a disaster for China. Agressive to other nations, destroying industry, can't say anything good about him.

How do you rate Putin?

from a noted Ukrainian,
Illia Ponomarenko :

So, Z-Russians on Telegram are now talking about their losses in the Battle of Avdiivka in 2023-2024. Allegedly, it's 16,000 men as 'irreplaceable losses' (e.g., all fatalities + all severely wounded that will never be back to ranks again), as well as around 300 armored vehicles.

So, if that's true (though it's likely that Russians traditionally understate their losses, at least when it comes to lost equipment, given the gargantuan amount of verified video footage we've seen) -- it means that over the four months of the Avdiivka campaign between mid-October and mid-February, the Russian fatalities rate surpassed the official death toll of the Soviet-Afghan War (1979-1989), which stands at 15,000 fatalities. Yes, the ill-fated and formerly sadly-remembered senseless war in 'Afghan' that once left a heavy scar on an entire generation and particularly precipitated the fall of the Soviet Union...

Fighting for Avdiivka continued since the very days of 2014 and 2015 and lasted with varying intensity all those years before 2022, and was also extremely bloodletting and fierce for almost two years of Russia's full-scale invasion. Moreover, the claimed Russian death toll at Avdiivka... literally corresponds to some 50% of the city's entire population in 2021 (some 32,000). And that's within the last four months alone and according to likely downplayed Russian estimates.

.. And the defense of Avdiivka gradually crumbled particularly due to a severe lack of munitions and means to counter Russian jets relentlessly throwing dozens of guided bombs at the city each and every day.

Stalemate around the Ukraine aid at the U.S. Congress is already taking its toll. And amid all those shortcomings, see the absolutely savage efficacy of the Ukrainian defense, outnumbered and outgunned, -- again. A four-month battle vs a 10-year-long war in Afghanistan. Those are death toll estimates from Russians, not us.

Ukraine has a manpower problem. The munitions are just prolonging the inevitable. You need numbers to win. Artillery alone won't. They can grind with guerrilla warfare like the Afghans did. But the cities full of Russians they have little chance of recapturing without heavy losses.

It's only getting worse from here.

WOW the ABC is upsetting people.

ABC under fire from Ukraine over ‘bowl of vomit’ doco

ByMatthew Knott

Ukraine’s top representative in Australia has blasted the ABC for airing a Four Corners documentary focusing on the perspective of Russian troops fighting on the frontlines in Ukraine, describing it as “the journalistic equivalent of a bowl of vomit”.
The documentary, which was originally aired on Britain’s ITV network, showed filmmaker Sean Langan embedded with Russian troops in the Donbas, a region of Ukraine that Russia has claimed as its territory following the February 2022 invasion.
Ukrainian ambassador to Australia Vasyl Myroshnychenko said the program, titled Ukraine’s War: The Other Side, “unquestioningly repeated and aired countless blatant lies, historical distortions, racist claims and propaganda narratives emanating from the Kremlin”.
“In as much, it completely served the interests of Russia’s dictator, Putin,” Myroshnychenko said of the program, which aired last night.
“The Australian Broadcasting Corporation should be ashamed that it put such total garbage to air.
“Through the Minister for Communications, I will ask for a meeting with the Managing Director of the ABC and the Executive Producer of Four Corners to understand what process led to the airing of this pro-Putin and pro-violence propaganda piece by Australia’s national broadcaster.”
Stefan Romaniw, co-chair of the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations, said the program provided a platform for Russian propaganda and gave Russian soldiers free rein to justify the invasion of Ukraine.
“It is nonsense for the ABC to pretend this was fearless journalism, bringing us ‘extraordinary access’ to the ‘other side’,” he said.
“It was a stage-managed, Kremlin controlled media exercise.”
Romaniw said he would be writing to the ABC Board, Managing Director David Anderson and Communications minister Michelle Rowland about the program, which he said had caused “profound distress for the Ukrainian-Australian community”.
The ABC has been approached for comment.

Oh now, what's this, Aunty turning into Tucker Carlson?
I've heard snippets from the program, going forward will try to check it out in full but, I can't see it as a brown nose job like Tucker's Putin "cough" interview.

You give the ABC something for little cost and they are so eager for content they are tempted to show it.

Why the change in stance I wonder?

We can't let Ukraine fall to the Russian dictator and strengthen Russia. What is to stop more countries being attacked? especially if you know who wins the election and follows an appeasement policy.

And the Albanese government isn't doing enough. Our support has fallen off a cliff.

Of the wealthy countries not in the EU, in per capita terms, we only beat NZ and Taiwan (who have their own problems).

Russia would have to be stupid to start war with Europe. I don't see that happening. If we wanted to help we should retool for war and build a bunch of ordinance.
It would help us and help them.
