Ukraine War

with Hamas setting the place alight, Ukraine has slipped off p1.

Russian forces have launched a large force to try and take Andriivka, in Donetsk. So far it's looking like Vulhedar, mark II, with large losses and not too much to show. Bakhmut is seeing Ukr hold the line outside the city ruins. In the south, Tokmat is still a few defensive lines away, and large scale attempts to break through now replaced by small units skirmishing. And Sevastopol is proving hard to defend from naval drones.

well, they're winning "Kiev in 3 days".
Ukraine has done well. I don't support Russia. But the amount of Ukrainians killed is ridiculous. We then had the US military complaining because the Ukraine had resorted to "casualty averse" methods that burn through ammunition.

Apparently it doesn't fit the US modelling to win ground. Mind you that the US would never attempt it themselves. It would require huge casualties to get through the minefields and the fortified positions the Russians hold. Right now it's a stalemate.

Ukraine simply does not have air superiority. They don't have enough ammo. Or experience. I'd like them to win. But I also want to be realistic. The counter offensive has failed.

Follow the money, where is there money to be gained or lost and if it's a loss how can we minimise it? Why can't people just get on.

The US has found some wore weapons systems they needed to decomissio, so off to Ukraine they go.

The US hawks must be pinching themslves.
They are fighting against a sworn enemy who is taking heavy casualties and financial problems, but the US does not have to ut any personell in the firing line.

Not much o the Russia/Ukraine war in the media, perhaps other events have overtaken it?
Perhaps the west has got rid of all the ammo and obsolete equipment it needed to get rid of.
Or more likely all the career mercenaries have moved to Gaza where the money is better.

Like Covid and The Voice and politican antics, we're probably fatigued from it all.

From The Sun
As the world watched the Israel-Gaza conflict unfold, Vladimir Putin threw all he had at a key eastern Ukrainian city. The meat-grinder battle for Avdiivka has become the newest, most deadly clash to take place across Ukraine's frozen eastern frontlines as Russia suffers its worst losses of the year. Since mid-October, Russian forces have been bearing down on the shattered city of Avdiivka - known as the gateway to the major city of Donetsk that lies 12 miles to the east. The UK Ministry of Defence reports that Russia has committed up to eight brigades (around 40,000 soldiers) to a "major offensive effort" as Ukraine bravely holds the line. Thousands of Russian tanks, armoured vehicles and poorly trained and badly equipped troops have been thrown in waves at the small, but strategic city in a desperate bid to seize it.

I hope we don't let Russia win.
It would be a disaster to allow Europe's food basket to be controlled by Russia and its ally China. It would greatly enhance Russia's influence.

It would also give a green light to further aggression. Estonia, Latvia, Moldovia and Lithuania will be next attacked.
Any short term deal to create Peace in our Time, would be another Neville Chamberlain moment.

My son was just training in Thailand. Place is full of Russians and they are all are5holes. One tried to run him over on a scooter and he managed to knock him off it with his gym bag and deal with him.
They are seriously the biggest dckheads around.

It's packed. One of the thai trainers had his front teeth smashed out by one Russian idiot. This was in what was supposed to be a soft spar session. They treat the locals like sht as well. Big criminal element that seems to be entrenching itself as well.
They are trying to skip going to the front lines.

Yes, from what my cousin told me, Eastern Europeans was the main driver for Brexit. Trouble with a capital T.

I wonder how many of these "draft dodgers" are actually nefarious Putin controlled actors?
Of further greater concern is they are but a hop, skip and a jump from our shores.

They are hyper aggressive. Will happily pick on smaller targets. Try to run people over on the road, even if it means swerving across multiple lanes. Will hit puddles to spray pedestrians. It's like they took w4nker classes and got straight A+

They also keep their money in house (eg. They will only use Russian taxi drivers, clubs, hotels, hairdressers). They don't add a lot to the community.

Many will think your just being over the top, i worked in a place where we were paid good money and many were single, everyone of the guys that went to South America for a bit of hanky panky came back shaken. ;)

I don't know what the context of this video is. But if this is legit, the age of the guys is concerning. Looking further out you have to wonder if Ukraine will be demographically destroyed.

seems the above video is correct.
This will pretty much taint Ukraine bloodlines of future generations. Bit of a race wipe. I'm hearing the losses are as high as 500k, who knows.

Not sure that patch of dirt was worth it. Certainly was worth it to the US and Nato though.
According to this NYT Aug. 18, 2023 article, 500k from both sides.
Russia’s military casualties, the officials said, are approaching 300,000. The number includes as many as 120,000 deaths and 170,000 to 180,000 injured troops. The Russian numbers dwarf the Ukrainian figures, which the officials put at close to 70,000 killed and 100,000 to 120,000 wounded.
The main sticking point is troop numbers.
But Russians outnumber Ukrainians on the battlefield almost three to one, and Russia has a larger population from which to replenish its ranks.

Ukraine has around 500,000 troops, including active-duty, reserve and paramilitary troops, according to analysts. By contrast, Russia has almost triple that number, with 1,330,000 active-duty, reserve and paramilitary troops — most of the latter from the Wagner Group.
However, as war is such an ever changing dynamic the front line along with the data, is far different today than back in August.
