Tyranny

Some people will believe anything they are told if it aligns with their beliefs.
That is the problem. They easily fall for propaganda and become sad computer junkies eagerly consuming stuff designed to keep them online and toeing the line to the purposes of the propagandist. Lies designed to build anger and become polarised. That goes for the right and the left, leading to the rise of a "great man" leading to tyranny. People need to use their analytical skills. rules such as Occams razor, etc.

I agree.

But that is not "joining the dots" implies. Joining the dots means piecing together pieces of verifiable information and coming to a reasonable conclusion. This is in fact, apart from those very few slam dunk cases, judiciary is required to do when finding the guilt or innocence of someone before them.

True that one can come to an erroneous conclusion if the points of reference are too disparate and distant. It is also true that some people allow the media or other parties to join those disparate dots for them, for some political end.

However, there are so many things recently which have been branded as conspiracy theories that turned out to be true.

Those who have recently joined the dots castigated as misinformation, disinformation, liars, racists and whatnot. The truth prevails, eventually.

No matter what you think about the lockdowns, this arrest was @#$&in ridiculous; truly disturbing and alarming.

Ohio has fought back against tyranny today. The GOP tried to change the constitution to reduce the people's ability to change the constitution and reduce their vote.

Even many Republicans voted against it. Creeping tyranny. I wonder if they will try this in other states. Lincoln would have been disgusted.

Fox news were naturally for it.

Further to above, Ohio gerrymandering is extreme which allows them complete control of the courts and state government despite the state often voting Democrat overall.
It is hard to set up a fascist one party state if people have equal votes, hence attempted change to constitution.

At times, we hear of people complaining they Have to vote in Oz, but it does force people to actually vote and it means that noisy minorities find it easy to win Polls but hard to win elections (or referendums)

Several jumped up Rozzers to arrest a poor autistic girl for something she said. The latest example of what is beyond belief now in Western countries.

Meanwhile, real crime is out of control.

It took Quensland a long time to rid itself of the Joh gerrymander.

Compulsory turning up at polling booths is one of those things that in a perfect world can be argued against but in practice it's the lesser of the available evils.

It at least blunts the power of fringe radicals.

I'm a bit ambivalent about compulsory voting.

One one hand it's a bit disturbing having governments elected by people who don't care about what they are voting for, on the other hand in Australia at least people seem to make the right decisions when they actually turn up. Except at the 2019 election when Morrison was returned which was a blunder imo.

And then there are the ones that don't put a mark on the ballet paper and the donkey voters.
Personally, I take voting as a massive priviledge, unlike in some countries where people die for the right to go to the polls to vote.

To impose tyranny you need foot soldiers.

"They claim to be super-patriots, but they would destroy every liberty guaranteed by the Constitution."-George Wallace.

I think you have everything @55 backwards. While I don't condone threatening judges, the woman concerned believes herself to be fighting against an obvious tyranny.
