Probably a job you likely end up with physical scars from over time - young lads like fake scars (tattoos), not real ones from being kicked by horses, burnt by metal etc.

That's true, I worked as a dockers offsider for about 6 weeks, when we were on strike, it was amazing watching the blokes eat sandwiches with two and three fingers missing.
Humans adapt.

True. My Dad's factory backed on to a sawmill. You could spot the noobies
