In a goodwill photo opportunity with NATO's Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, Mr Biden blundered — he unwittingly, and briefly, told the truth about the requested membership of Ukraine instead of using a diplomatic phrase.
Referring to the draft wording of a communique, Mr Biden said, "We agree on the language that we've proposed," he said, before realising that he shouldn't be making things so obvious.
"That you proposed," he quickly added as he looked at Mr Stoltenberg, "relative to the future of Ukraine."
