Qantas shareholders demand chairman Richard Goyder's resignation as investors place rest of board on notice

The Australian Shareholders' Association (ASA) said Mr Goyder's time as Qantas chairman needed to end in the wake of the ACCC's legal action over ghost flights, a High Court ruling over illegally sacked workers, and the fallout from the airline's final multi-million dollar payout to former CEO Alan Joyce.

Until the mud hits the fan, and when it becomes unbearable, every man for himself.

Politics aside, POO, jet fuel and a low Aussie isn't helping....tough times for the flying kangaroo.
ummmm , i might be wrong but didn't QAN ( and other major airlines ) hedge ( forward buy ) their fuel

and when discovered sparked the 'fuel surcharge scandal '

but my memory might be getting faulty

reputation damage is a big problem at QAN , that might be the toughest test for the new CEO ( unless the aging fleet starts crashing )

will be interesting to see where Richard goes next , he had a reasonable reputation before that appointment

Mr Goyder is Chairman of Woodside Petroleum Limited, the Australian Football League Commission, JDRF Australia, the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, and the Channel 7 Telethon Trust. He is an honorary Member of the Business Council of Australia and a Fellow of the AICD.
Mr Goyder was the Managing Director and CEO of Wesfarmers Limited from July 2005 to November 2017.
He also previously held the roles of Finance Director between 2002 and 2004, and Deputy Managing Director and CFO between 2004 and 2005.

back to WES perhaps ???

The AFR reports this morning that QANTAS pilots through their Union have no confidence in Goyder as Chairman.

It is always good to see those leading from the front ... leading from the front.

Meanwhile the Industry Superannuation Funds back Goyder to the hilt.

Interestinigly I saw on the Idiot Box news tonight, that the much loved bespeckled garden gnome will not be having to front up to the QaQtas inquiry.
Reason given Pressing overseas engagement.
BS.
I wonder if he is travelling on the airline he has virtually demolished, and if so will the pilots abort the take-off with him on board?????

probably travelling in a cargo plane so he can take all his loot with him ( especially after his previous outbursts on baggage handlers )

Goyder, the Chairman, stated last week that he had the support of the majortity of large fund investors in Qantas to remain in that position.

The Parliamentary Inquiry should request evidence of this.

I have found little evidence of any support for him, anywhere, by anybody in Australia or Overseas, in the World, nor The Universe.

None.

SFA.

Go and begone ya Dill.

I would like to see the enquiry on QAN demand to see the list of names on the Chairmans lonuge at QAN.
How many of these "supporters" he quotes have their snouts in the trough having been granted access to the Chairmans Lounge?
mick
most of them , is my guess

while i am not hostile to Goyder himself ( i liked him at WES and doesn't do too bad at WDS ) the airline does have to 'refresh 'it's reputation (and 'refresh the board' would be an important first step )

but i no longer have shares in the airline so i won't be voting either way and in the unlikely event i ever fly anywhere again , this airline would be very low on my list ( even if i wasn't paying for the flight )

I'm sure they hedge, but how far in advance can they do that? 3 months, 6 months and with rocketing fuel price, it'll still be more expensive...and jet fuel is ?? 10, 20 times more expensive than our petrol (that's my understanding, they're higher grade too)....

If you are buying a minimum of 1 million litres a year, Jet A1 at the capital city airports is currently around USD0.87 cents per litre or 1.36 in AUD terms. Not sure if this includes any taxes, I suspect it does, as the IATA quotes world average prices being in a similar range
Pretty cheap compared to diesel.

Looks cheaper when we look at it like that. Not sure how it's delivered and stored. I have the impression they fuel up on the tarmac (as was announced once or twice when we were late taking off) I can't imagine the planes going to a different depot like us going to petrol stations to fill up....maybe they do? There might be hidden charges that we don't see?

Most large airports have huge underground tanks and pipes to each parking slot.
There is an undeground pipe that goes directly from the Shell depot in Geelong to Tullamarine and I belive is also going to Avalon
They just run a portable pumper to pump from ground to plane.
Smaller airports use fuel tankers that drive to the planes.
Only us poor GA peasants have to taxi up to the bowsers.

Pretty cheap more like excessively cheap. Diesel here today $2.21 a litre

heres a chart of Jet A1 over the past twenty years.

If I had the raw data, I would like to plot the same chart adjusted for inflation.

Regardless of the name of the facility, the Qantas chairman has nothing to do with the membership. The procedure for membership if fairly straight forward and rigid (except for Albanese the younger). The members know this and would not feel beholden to him and I would suggest the overwhelming majority would be judging him on his lack of performance as we are here. Members are members regardless of who is chairman.

however the former CEO implied something different between the longstanding CEO and some lounge members , but i suppose we will never find out if special topics were discussed in 'the lounge '

Respectfully young non city male, but there is a difference between the QANTAS lounge and the Chairmans lounge.
There are a number of comments above about the procedure for being "invited" to the Chairmans lounge.
There is a quick explanation of the difference Here
I will leave it there.
