Hi
This is my first post and I need help on Metastock downloader (7.2). I was using Almax eod data and now want to use free data from broker(bell securities). As I use another old software(supercharts4) that can hold maximum 255 securities in a folder. I want eod data for the asx stocks only and don't want options or warrents, so that I can fill more stocks in a folder.

Is there any way I can convert securities that hold three letters only in metastock downloader? If so, I would be able to seperate them from warrants or options. :banghead:

I can do this easily with Tradesim but you wont have that.
Once downloaded there is Stock delete from Pariteck which will delete all options and warrents---its about $100 last I heard.
I vaugely remember some freeware around that did it.
I think it was on Jose Silva's site.

Have a look here.

There are many reasons why paying for a data vendor is better than trying to download free data. Save time, effort and money, try Premium Data from Norgate and get reliable data easily downloaded in customisable folders...

I tested with databull and another downloader called mldownloader and probably norgate does the same, they all download data for yahoo. The problem is they all have warrants attached with stocks and that quickly filled up file with255 securities and supercharts can't read more than that. Metastock has no problem. As supercharts is an old(but beautiful) program, I use this to analyse charts but I use metastock as a screener.

Is anyone using yahoo for australian data and can tell me that they receive all the penny stocks because in trial version, I haven't find some of them.

I agree W.
We are talking about $600 is a year.
If one has been trading long enough to be using Supercharts you wouldnt think $600/yrs would be even a consideration particularly when its tax deductable. Does everything but make you breakfast, and no its not from Yahoo!

No. Norgate does not provide a free Yahoo! data downloader. Norgate is a full service data vendor which provides clean, reliable and maintained data, an application to do the downloading automatically for you (if you want) and tools so that you can separate your data into folders or lists ; you can split up your data just about any way that you can imagine.

Have a look at their website: http://www.premiumdata.net/

For $30 per month you can get the ASX without the derivatives. (Check their prices page for any changes).

P.S. Paritech, JustData and many more companies provide data too. I am a Norgate customer and cannot fault their sales, service or support.

Thanks for promoting Norgate. My question is this, can you convert only the securities that contain three letters (example TLS ) from a text file into metastock format using Metastock downloader? If so, how?

The data from Norgate is already is in MetaStock format, or if you need it, you can get it in another format. Just another benefit of a decent data vendor.

BTW: not all stocks have only three letters, there are preference shares etc that can have more than three letters, but are not warrants or options. Again, the differentiation is made for you by a good data vendor so you don't have to think about it if you don't want to.

They even have a free trial period.

Hi tech/a
Thanks for helping me with jose silva's site. I can now deleate all warrants, options etc. with the software and it works fine. Do you know any freeware for file splitting so that if any file (say "A") goes over 255 security, I can split it (say"A" and "A1) into two or more?
