Israel - Palestine

There's a huge possibility Israel government let it happen. I'm not ruling that out. I don't trust that government at all.
But hamas still perpetrated the act

Yes, even Israelis/Jews are asking questions. There was a lot of dissatisfaction with the Netanyahu government even before October 7.

As you say it doesn't excuse what happened, but it will be interesting to see what comes out in the wash.

Israel government is shocking. So are the attitudes of the ultra. But realistically this egotistical thinking of being "gods children" seems to have rotted a lot of brains in the middle East.

Everyone no matter how evil the acts seem to think that they are the righteous ones.

Apparently some are more so God's Children than others. Just depends what form of mind bending religion the zealots follow.

I think most people here are against the war crimes that are happening.
This is what happens when extreme ideologies are pitted against one another. All the moderates suffer. It often doesn't end till one side is wiped out.

This is similar in its take down that its targeted at just hating the "enemy" while ignoring other incidents where allies are doing it.

I suspect that even if hamas was removed and peace followed. Israel would still be stealing land on the sly.

Hamas may be on the verge of collapse, meaning a new governing authority will be required.

“After the great sacrifice of our civilians and our soldiers, I will not allow the entry into Gaza of those who educate for terrorism, support terrorism and finance terrorism,” Netanyahu said on Dec. 12, referring to the Palestinian Authority.

The terrorist attacks on shipping in the Red Sea, which commenced after Hamas terrorists broke a ceasefire to brutally attack southern Israel on October 7, were followed by Israel’s retaliation. However, the Hamas and Houthi terrorist operations are financed by Iran. As is Hezbollah, which is firing rockets into Israel from southern Lebanon.

In shrinking world, even the Red Sea is part of our ‘region’

a drill down into Hamas, analysed from open source information

... and very hard to be anything but pessimistic about this mess.

An insight into the current war from a person who negotiated on behalf of Israel in the earlier peace conferences.

In this episode of #CentreStage, Daniel Levy discusses the war in Gaza from historical, inter-faith, and geopolitical perspectives. Levy is the president of the U.S./Middle East Project, and served as an Israeli negotiator at Taba under Prime Minister Ehud Barak, and under Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin during Oslo B negotiations. Daniel Levy discusses the Palestinian right of return, the consequences of the Oslo negotiations, and addresses anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.

I disagree. Israel does not steal land on the sly. It has a clear policy to steadily take back the West Bank piece by piece and drive the Palestinians out. The explosive development of Israeli Settlements financed by the Israel government and populated by extreme right wing settlers has been well documented. The last couple of years of extreme right wing policies in Israel has accelerated this process

Israel is rapidly expanding Jewish settlements in the West Bank. This Australian man is among them

Jewish Australian Michael Lourie spent years building his dream home set amongst sprawling mountains, with views stretching all the way to the sparkling Dead Sea.

He describes it as an eco-villa constructed using raw materials like hemp. His home and his community are a source of pride and joy.
But Mr Lourie's paradise has been built in the West Bank — the Palestinian territory occupied by Israel — and under international law, the home is illegal.

Mr Lourie is what's commonly known as a settler.
Settlements are overwhelmingly Jewish communities built in Palestinian territories captured by Israel in 1967.
Mr Lourie's settlement is called Pnei Kedem, and not only does he live there, but he also founded it — the only Australian to do so.

The Israelis got rid of the PLO in Lebanon and got Hezbollah a 1000 times more powerful and basically handed Lebanon to Iran.

Then they undermined the PLO in Gaza and got Hamas far more aggressive than the PLO.

There are much more extremist groups in Gaza than Hamas, get rid of Hamas and you get some other extremist group with 10's of thousands of traumatized kids waiting for recruitment.

This is the legacy that Netanyahu and his government will leave.

There will never be any peace.

Edit, I recon Netanyahu's government is what a Trump government will look like in the US complete with extreme nut cases and undermining the court system.

Do they really want peace in any of these war zones.
Only geared up for war and killing and destruction.
Brain wash the next generation to keep the hatred alive and well.

True. Hamas has been brainwashing the youth of Palestine since the1980's. When a religion is confused with law, the interpretation can be used by any despot.

Since its creation in December 1987, Hamas has invoked militant interpretations of Islam to spearhead a Sunni extremist movement committed to destroying Israel. Hamas distanced itself from the longstanding Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO)—an umbrella organization for disparate Palestinian factions that ranged from Marxist to secular nationalists—by propagating resistance in the religious context of jihad, or a holy struggle and martyrdom. “Jihad is its path and death for the sake of Allah is the loftiest of its wishes,” Hamas said in its first statement in the late 1980s. Predominantly Shiite Iran has armed, trained and funded Hamas since the late 1980s largely due to its opposition to Israel and Islamic ideology.
After the deadly offensive by Hamas against Israel in October 2023, Ismail Haniyeh, who replaced Mashaal as head of the Hamas political bureau in exile, again invoked religious rhetoric. “Today, the enemy has had a political, military, intelligence, security and moral defeat inflicted upon it, and we shall crown it, with the grace of God, with a crushing defeat that will expel it from our lands, our holy city of al Quds, our al Aqsa mosque, and the release of our prisoners from the jails of the Zionist occupation,” he said.

My thoughts are what could be considered a little bit more conspiratorial, but will leave it there.
We are probably travelling on the same bus with this one Wayne. I was just being polite for this time of the year.
