Dump it Here

@divs4ever is that the reason the rear vison mirror is a must in our vehicles🤣
i used to race bicycles .. RV mirrors can be positively dangerous ( even the farm tractor/mower has no RV )

know precisely where you are going ( and how to get there ) can be a full-time job

BTW i have never had a vehicle license , not for forklifts , tractors or bulldozers i have driven ( on worksites ) or anything else

and the joke no one else's sees is that a neighbour is widely known as DANGEROUS ( the nick-name ) for his workplace activities

LOL ( it cracks me up often )

i will settle for realistic , thank you very much

have had my share of limited vision ( fog , darkness , overgrown pathways )

but rear-vision can be informative at times

Sorry @divs4ever, the "Quote of the Day" - "It's hard to drive towards an optimistic future while looking in the rearview mirror" - was in reference to the series of posts I made today.

As an Australian, I believe in safeguarding our nation's future as a free, tolerant, and prosperous society. Those who would seek to import divisive ideologies should not be dwelling on the past, but rather focusing on embracing the optimistic future that Australia can afford them - the very life they came here to seek.

I apologise for any misunderstanding. The quote of the day was to emphasise the importance of looking ahead with hope and commitment to our core values, rather than getting trapped in the rearview mirror of where one has come from. Australia's strength lies in its ability to welcome newcomers while preserving the principles that define us as a people.

i like to look at the past as well so i can avoid some of the ( apparently ) cyclical traps

i still use history as a guide to what may potentially go wrong in the next time

BTW i would most likely be more optimistic .. if the foundations were solid , not being consistently eroded away

On the dangers looming for the west...
Not share trading and following Mr Skate post
About the rise of antisemitism in France.
For 40y , the front national, a nationalist movement, now the RN has been labelled as racist, antisemic and members/ sympathetic voters treated as being Nazis.
As a result, and for the last 40y including last election, if heading to a duel, far leftists, communists, greens, to right, LNP equivalents banded together to prevent RN access to power.
Yet, gay bashing, women attacks and rapes, knive street slaughters as well as christian and Jewish sites desecrations have now reached extremes, churches are burnt by the hundreds, jews attacked or assaulted in the street...
But not by the RN, the so called far right, but by their new muslim imported far left youth. 600000 a year, year after year, overwhelmingly african muslim young boys
The riot last Sunday were not by disappointed far right voters, but by the antifada.. the very same Chavez loving far left which managed to get control of the parliament
I will also share some figures:

These elections votes:
far left LFI 25% 7.5 millions
RN 36% votes.10 millions
Macron party 23% 7 millions
By far RN first party by vote..yet at the parliament, in seats
LFI (far left( ended in #1 position

So democracy when initially set for a duopoly can become very twisted and hugely non representative.
I hope Australia will avoid the slow descent.vote well, do not swallow the BS on the propaganda and switch off their ABC.
This fight is really for the foundation of our western society, notion of law and order, property rights, equality of opportunity, not equality of outcome, justice and ultimately good and evil,(not in the religious meaning).
The US of A has switched off its beacon, we need to find our own and this is not tribalism, apartheid, or universal income/squatters
Back to the share market, which has a link as our next market/economic collapse will most definitely bring these critical issues to the surface.
PS
As you can tell, i am not a Melanchon fan, this is a really dangerous party nazi means national socialist.. never forget that second part
i consider myself more Australian than French and my ethics prevent me from voting in a faraway country where i would not be have to assume the consequences of my vote, so this is all seen as a mirror of coming troubles here

@qldfrog, I appreciate your insightful perspective on this matter.

Your comment highlights several important points:
1. The importance of informed voting and critical thinking when consuming media, including being aware of potential media biases (ABC)
2. The broader implications of current political trends on the foundations of Western society, including concepts like the rule of law, property rights, and equality of opportunity.

The parallel between Australia's situation and potential challenges in other Western nations, suggests a global context for these issues.
Your balanced view, combining your French background with your strong connection to Australia, offers a unique and valuable perspective on these complex issues. It's refreshing to see such thoughtful engagement with the political process and its long-term implications for society.

Thank you for contributing to this discussion and encouraging others to consider the broader impacts of their political choices.

@divs4ever Two of my tractors have outside mirrors for seeing what's what behind, and the forklift also.

Enjoy your trading posts, but don't agree with every detail. Currently this signal generator is grating my trading sensibilities. There's too many signals and this is due to the weakness of the MACD. I love the MACD divergence signals, but hate it when it crosses up when price is slowly going down and crosses down when price is slowly going up.

Beginners will get freaked out by the frequency of these signals and will look for something else (dual MAs).

Many moons ago I used the MACD with larger parameters (21,55,9). It decreased the number of signals and kept me in trends longer. The disadvantage is that it allowed larger pull-backs and subsequent loss of open profits. We can't trade price swings and trends using the same indicators or trade management rules.

@peter2, thanks for sharing your experience. Finding the right balance between signal frequency and indicator behaviour is crucial for effective trading. Your insights on using larger parameters and the need for different indicators could potentially help address these concerns. The goal of this exercise is to demonstrate a “signal generator” derived from a common indicator using free charting tools and software and document the process. If nothing else, the system is straightforward and easy to follow.

ALL - Aristocrat Leisure Limited
The "signal generator" below displays the frequency of trading signals generated from January 1, 2024. Over these seven months, there were a total of 9 buy signals, including the one generated today. While the signal generator does have limitations, it can still provide meaningful educational value for traders seeking to refine their analysis and decision-making process. The exercise provides a concise, practical introduction to the fundamentals of technical analysis.

@peter2, this simple trading exercise may not be setting the world ablaze at the moment, but it's making steady progress. While trading a focused watchlist of 20 large-cap companies is certainly not an optimal strategy for generating outsized growth or "knock it out of the park" profits, for the reasons you outlined. If this system can manage to keep its head above water, that would be quite an accomplishment.

Mid-week trading results
Below is the progress after nearly 6 weeks. I've also included the trading metric for those interested.

While there were two buy signals generated at the end of today's trading session, the portfolio is currently at capacity. As a result, these signals had to be passed over for the time being.

Your Generator seems to work well

2 trades is better than 9 trades in IMHO---------------With your Generator and My Technical ""We might be onto Something"

The work is important, the result immaterial (although I do think you'll easily beat the XNT, which makes it valuable). My only concern is the high activity and there will be periods where the portfolio value doesn't go up and a beginning trader will most likely chuck it in (at the worst time).

However...

A possible benefit of the high activity, is that a trader may become emotionally numb to each individual result as the signals appear each day. The signals are so frequent that there's no time to fiddle (with getting a better entry or exit price). Learning to stick to the plan is a valuable lesson for all traders to learn and remember.

"Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;"

"Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;"

@peter2, what a stirring and motivational phrase, one that calls upon the courage to fight bravely.

Yes, the results garnered by the signal generator may be immaterial, but this exercise is fundamentally about faithfully following the rules of engagement and fighting the good fight. We both know the system has its flaws, but for the purposes of this exercise, those very flaws will serve to condition traders to accept and adapt to what the markets provide. The strategy may not be perfect, but it represents a crucial first step in the learning process - one of gaining valuable experience and striving for continuous improvement.

Footnote
There was no interest in hearing how paint dries - by that, I mean "passive investing". In contrast, trading tends to spark more interest and engagement. And while simpler forms of trading may have their fair share of criticisms and detractors, in the grand scheme of "having a go", dipping one's toe in can effectively whet the desire to learn more. That, after all, is "really what this is all about".
