Trading is tough
If it were easy, everyone would be doing it and making a fortune. But the reality is, it's not easy. The market can be unpredictable, and even experienced traders can struggle to make consistent profits. As a hobby trader, I've certainly felt my share of frustration. It's easy to get discouraged when the market doesn't seem to be going your way. But the truth is, trading isn't a get-rich-quick scheme. It takes time, effort, and perseverance to succeed.

When the market is trending upward, it's easier to make money

But when the markets go sideways or down, it can be a real struggle. For those who don't trade systematically, it's hard to know when to buy and sell, making it easy to get caught out by sudden market movements.

Despite these challenges
I've learned that it's important to stay focused. I've been studying the market and trying to improve my skills, and I've found that there are still opportunities to make money even in a sideways market. It's all about being patient, staying informed, and being prepared to adapt to changing market conditions.

Deep Yellow Ltd (DYL)
As of today's date, Wednesday the 4th of October, 2023, DYL is a great example of a trade that could potentially yield a profit.

Just a few days ago
DYL was trading at a level that would have triggered a "Take Profit Stop". However, it's since experienced a significant drop in price, and it's now fighting to stay above its trailing stop. Despite this, I'm still optimistic about its potential for profit.

As part of my weekly "Dual Breakout Strategy"
I'll be monitoring the signal at the end of the week to determine the fate of this position. While it's freefalling at the moment, there's still a chance that it could recover and close the week in a profitable position.

I thought I'd Dump a copy here of my post in our Much Respected ASF Monthly Comp

" What a pack of CHEATS
There is no end to what those greedy Landlubbers do when they see a share at the TOP Right Hand side of a chart
It is as they think the World is Flat
Just watch them Run for the Hills in the face of a Huge Cold Front

This is a spectacle in its own right
Unfortunately they often find "Their Hills Are On Fire"

A month is a long time at Sea on the ASX
Cheers"

I post a copy here also as I am AMAZED BEWILDERED and ASTONISHED to find that not one of your Crew are MIA

I send you a final message
As you have not appreciated my posts in the past
You won't GET them in the Future

@Captain_Chaza, I appreciate your contributions to this thread, but I must admit that I sometimes struggle to understand the true meaning of your posts. I'm concerned that the language used in your recent post may be perceived as derogatory towards certain members.

Specifically, the phrase "What a pack of CHEATS" and the line "It is as they think the World is Flat" suggest frustration with certain individuals. The reference to "greedy Landlubbers" and the phrase "Just watch them Run for the Hills in the face of a Huge Cold Front" are also difficult to understand.

If you're feeling frustrated and want to vent, I suggest using this thread to unload your feelings "without a direct reference to others". This can be a liberating way to express yourself and help others understand the real issue at hand.

@Captain_Chaza, I understand that you feel offended and frustrated with the situation. It's understandable to feel that way when we put effort and passion into something and don't see the desired outcome. There are several factors that contribute to why some members may hit the like button while others do not.

This forum is a community
Creating content and sharing experiences on this forum is akin to practising a religion. While some members are deeply invested and actively engaged, where others may be less involved. We both create content based on our individual experiences, with the hope that others may find value in the knowledge we share from our perspectives.

"Likes" are not the true measure of a post
Realistically, the value of a post or thread cannot always be measured by its "likes or comments". Sometimes, a seemingly simple or trivial contribution can resonate with a member and provide them with valuable insights or inspiration. Conversely, a highly detailed or complex post may not garner as much attention, but it may still serve as a valuable resource for someone seeking information on a specific topic.

Sharing is caring
Ultimately, the value of a forum lies not just in the content itself, but in the sense of community and collaboration that it fosters. By sharing our experiences and insights, we can learn from each other and grow as traders. Even if a post does not generate a lot of engagement, it still has the potential to make a positive impact on someone's trading journey.

Some of your contribution is very welcome and interesting. However, I have difficulty in comprehending a lot of what you share, I was never the best at deciphering cryptic sea mysteries. Tintin was my forte, Captain Haddock was a good man.

I understand the frustration and uncertainty small price movements can have on any portfolio
It's natural to feel emotional when your positions are affected by market fluctuations. However, it's important to remember those emotions keep you on your toes as long as you don't let those emotions cloud your judgement.

Staying up-to-date with market news and analysis can help you understand market trends. t's essential to stay focused and disciplined to have any chance of success in this game. While emotions are a natural part of trading, it's essential to keep them in check.

Skate.

A number of issues raised.

(a) volatility (daily fluctuations);
(b) news/headlines/noise as contrasted with actionable relevant information;
(c) emotional control.

You can control volatility a number of ways: timeframe, market neutral positioning are two ways.

You can control emotional response by position size. The smaller your risk, the smaller your emotional response.

Noise v information. This actually comes down to skill. As with any skill the more time and effort you expend, the higher your skill level will develop to.

Some myths:

(a) mechanical trading will lower your stress levels or emotional response;
(b) technicals contain all the 'information' and no noise.

From the above you can see the direct relationship between volatility and emotional response.

The shorter your timeframe, the higher the volatility and the more likely that any given position will be a larger % of your available capital.

From the examples that Mr Skate has provided re. mechanical systems, one went I believe into a 7% drawdown in a 2 week period. This current market is a snooze fest currently.

Screen Shot 2023-10-05 at 8.24.37 PM.png

When markets get volatile, that 7% draw will be a daily draw. And they will. A doozy is brewing under the surface.

When markets do get volatile, mechanical stops entered as GTC orders have a habit of not being executed anywhere near your price. Liquidity is the immediate victim of volatility.

Often I'll post posts from Mr flippe-floppe-flye. I know him quite well and his trading style. The trading style that he constantly references is 'hedging'. Hedging is a more expensive way of risk management, but when the SHTF it is a method that can reap you large profits.

I will never employ a stop. NEVER.

Hedging correctly is the professional way.

Hedging also solves the problem of position size and volatility. You want volatility. You want huge leverage. This is the exact opposite of what your more novice trader seeks.

@farmerge, @Joe Blow always tags his posts with "Be kind and respectful to others at all times and help them if you can. Always take the high road, even if it's difficult".

When we take the high road, we choose to act with integrity, respect, and kindness even when faced with difficult or disagreeable people. This can be challenging, especially when others may not behave in a way that we don't agree with. By choosing to act with integrity, respect, and kindness, we can build trust and respect, which leads to more positive outcomes.

Be kind everyone. There is never any legitimate reason to be rude, unkind, nasty or cruel to others. It creates an atmosphere of negativity when we should all be striving for positivity in our own lives and the lives of those around us.

It is fine to disagree. We all have disagreements with others. The aim should be to turn that disagreement into something positive through constructive discussion and/or debate that leads to greater understanding and appreciation of each others' positions. I have witnessed many disagreements on ASF turn into constructive discussions that benefit not just those engaged directly in the discussion but also those reading and following along.

Be positive. Be kind. Be constructive. Be happy.

Have a great Friday everyone! It's a beautiful day outside. ☀️
