What an uncouth bully !

Missed most of the action on the first two days, was babysitting grandkids, and needed all the sleep I cold get(why do kids wake up at 5.30 in the morning???)..
Was keen to watch last night and the rain came.
The bits I did get to see were good!
Bazball is entertaining, though I am not convinced it will be effective on anything except a flat track.
As soon as the ball is doing a bit, will become a bit harder to execute.
As for the poms getting rude and aggressive, its obviously something they picked up from the Oz players.
Had to laugh at the fine dished out to Moeen Ali for applying some drying spray to his fingers.
Just like in India, when Jadeja was applying cream to his fingers.
Seems its ok for everyone except Australia to try to alter the condition of the ball.

Lyon 8 wickets for the match.
Moeen Ali will be lucky to that in the series the way he he is going.
The late wicket of Smith has tipped things in favour of the poms I think.
As long as OZ get really close, and don't have a big lower order collapse, it will be a good days play.
Unfortunately, I am booked to go out to a fancy restaurant tonite, so will probably miss the majority of the mornings play.
Lets hope there is no rain, though I fear that with the overcast and gloomy weather, will favour the seam and swing bowlers, and the poms have a few good ones.

Australia win by two wickets​

Another short ball from Ollie Robinson and a thick edge from the bat of Pat Cummins is steered down to deep third man.
There's a fielder on the boundary but he's unable to cut it off.
Australia are victorious.

First innings 393 - for 8 wickets dec -- Second innings 273 all out

First innings 386 all out -- Second innings 282 - for 8 wickets
Australia win by 2 wickets
Cummins and Lyon steer Australia to thrilling two-wicket win
Pair put on 55 runs for ninth wicket to secure unlikely win

Great finish, Lyon and Cummins, our two best bowlers by far became our two most important batters.
have no doubt that Robinson will now regret the Jibe about having 3 no 11,s
Did not think we could get there, but there ya go.
struggled to get to sleep when I did go to bed, my head was still reliving the many highlights.

How better could we have been if Messrs Smith, Labuschagne and Head had got more runs ?

Never mind, a win is a win.
 
TBefore we move on to the second test in the Male ashes series, we must acknowledge the non male team of cricketers who have bumped off the poms on their own turf.
Ash Gardiner picked up 12 wickets to be the star, Anabel Sutherland her maiden Ton, Elyse Perry jpins the long list of batters out for 99, and Mrs Starc chipped in a handy 50.
They only have to win two of the remaining white ball games to retain the ashes.
An outstanding team on top of their game.

Poms were well below their best.
If not for the two brain fades by both head and green in that last hour, OZ would be in an an even better position to go on to make 500+ and bat the Poms out of the test.
Joe root, a part time off spinner, their most successful bowler.
Given the turn that he managed to get a few times, it will make the choice of not taking a recognised spinner into the game look even more foolish.
Hopefully Starc gets enough overs in at one end to create some decent footmarks for N Lyon to bowl into on the last innings.

Steve Smith hit his 32nd Test century .. (nice work); Lyon suffered a calf injury!!!!; and England lost 3-34 from a commanding position before recovering before stumps.

Australia will be ruing some crucial missed chances late in the day as well. Cameron Green dismissing Joe Root off a no-ball, when on just one, could’ve been costly – had the former England captain not been removed for 11 soon after. Marnus Labuschagne spilling a hot chance off Harry Brook, on 25. Brook remains unbeaten on 45 at stumps, with England 4-278 and trailing Australia’s first innings by a further 138 runs.

Even aside from the Lyon injury, it was England’s day – dismissing Australia before lunch, despite. before batting themselves back into the contest through Ben Duckett (98), Zak Crawley (48) and Ollie Pope (42).

Anyways, that is test cricket.

Losing Lyon is a disaster.
Looked the most capable bowler in the bit I watched before deciding I needed some sleep.
It will tip things in Englands favour somewhat, especially if they can establish a significant lead on day 3.
The ENG innings followed a similar pattern to OZ, with three needless gifted wickets late in the day.
Lets hope it continues on day 3 and England lose their last 5 wickets for less than 100.

Time for Marnus and Smith to step up to the bowling crease.

Miracles have been done before by part time spinners, like Root in our first innings and Alan Border, Micheal Clarke etc.

I would have more confidence in Trav head as an offspinner, especially against left handers.
Marnus has been bowling medium pacers in the English country games this year rather than the leggies.

Sure, give him a go, David Warner bowls leggies as well.
 
Crikey, Poms have folded for 325, giving OZ a lead of 91.
Head got two wickets in an over, and most of the wickets were gifted by brain fade batting.
Will be interesting.
