Well picked Mick, it was better than we both expected. Well done to Aus.
yeah, peeved that Head could not get the extra run to get 50.
Pretty good performance considering what happened in the first two tests.
They really need to back it up now in the last two.
Wonder what the Indians will conjure up for the wicket for the fourth test..

At least we have qualified for the World Test Championship final.

PS Its only a 4 test series, so one to go.

Absolutely insane test just completed in new Zealand.
NZ beat the Sri Lankans by two wickets on the very last ball of the match.
Looked to be heading for a dull draw till D Mitchell cranked up a quickfire 80 and Kane Williamson finished it off with his second century in as many tests.
The Umpires were a bit slack in the last over in not calling some of the bouncers as wides, they would have needed a step ladder as well as an elevator to reach them.
But the NZers won in the end, so perhaps justice was served.

After getting beaten relatively easily in the first ODI, OZ has come out and absolutely thrashed India by passing their meagre 117 total for loss of zero wickets with 39 overs to spare.
the much maligned Mitchel Starc deilivered his ninth ODI 5 wicket haul.

Its a remarkable record when you consider he has played only 109 matches half the number brett Lee took to get 9 michelles, and a third the number Afridi did.
Deserves far more accolades than he gets.

Starc is invaluable imo.

He should play every match that he is fit for.

A bit late but WTH

First look at runway India have prepared for Anthony Albanese’s flight into Ahmedabad

india-runway.jpg

Anthony Albanese’s visit to India is already causing controversy after images released late last night showed a dusty runway that is expected to deliver plenty of uneven bounce for the PM’s plane when it lands this morning. “There’s not a lot in there for the captain. It’s going to be tricky to navigate,” one expert said.

Local authorities prepared two separate runways earlier in the week in order to keep the Australian delegation guessing. But images leaked this morning showed the favoured strip – a red, dusty runway that will set the scene for a three-day spin-fest.
Albanese said he wasn’t going to get into a conversation about airstrip preparation, but confirmed he had added extra spinners to his team for the trip. The trip is planned to run for four days although many commentators predict it will be over by the end of day 1.

Australian cricketers must scratch their heads and wonder what goes through the mind of the Australian selectors.
Peter Hanscombe did not get a central contract this year, despite playing all 4 tests in India, and without setting the world on fire, contributed a valuable 72no in one of Australia's disastrous collapse and batted reasonably solidly in other innings.
He was one of the outstanding Shield players this year along with Cameron Bancroft.
Bancroft was the leading runscorer , but could not get into the team for India or England.
Marcus Harris was not chosen for the Indian tour, but did score 600 runs in the shield season.
His last tour to the UK was a disaster as he and Warner were tortured by the English seamers coming round the wicket to him.
But now he is the favoured one to replace warner or Kawaja , whoever drops out first.

How good is Travis Head ?

Gets big scores in an entertaining manner.

Just what our team and cricket in general needs.
Its called Travball.
Boys did well on a difficult opening day, but the Indians were a tad unlucky, lots false shots but were interspersed with some easy pickings from the bowlers.
I think the difference may well be Scotty Boland when India comes to bat.
Accuracy and consistency is his mantra, both required in spades on this pitch.
And a bit of luck.
Mick

Rarely watch but the 3 wicket partnership was very good. And Yep... Lots of luck.

Good morning
India was 151-5 at stumps, trailing by 318 runs. For the first time in test history, none of the India top four scored more than 15 runs. Good!!
Head made 163 off 174 balls, 25 boundaries and a six; and
Smith had 121 runs from 268 balls with 19 boundaries.

India took the last seven Aussie wickets for 108 runs in a good comeback by India when Australia threatened 500-plus while Head and Smith were in.

Three days to go

Kind regards

Australia still in a winning position, though history would suggest India is not completely out of it.
Australian fielding was poor. Three dropped chances, one of them a complete sitter, but was ameliorated by a brilliant catch by the same bloke who dropped the sitter. Carey has been a positive for the team, but there has been a consistent problem where he goes for catches then bails out leaving first slip (usually Warner) grasping at air. Has happened a few times, and he needs to work with coaching on that one.
The bowlers were not as good as the previous day, with the exception of perhaps Boland, but even he was a bit off.
The one brilliant ball from Lyon on the previous day could not be repeated, and he was expensive.
The problem with noballs, where Cummins missed three wickets because of them, is nobody's fault bar the bowler.
If Oz batters can last another 150 runs and take the lead to 450, they are almost impregnable on a pitch that is still offering plenty.
But it aint over yet.
Mick

Considering its a 6 day test, anything less than 450 is a problem. Our bowlers are good but I v the Indian batsmen hit form irm they can do anything.

Should be very interesting.

It will only be a six day test if a day is lost to rain, otherwise it is still 5 days.
If at the end of 5 full playing days, there is no result, both teams are declared joint winners.
This pitch is still doing tricky things, just watched a ball leap from a good length and hit Green on the shoulder.
Given his height, that is some leap!
He just got another four after a ball leapt off a length and hit him in the glove.
It would take an enormous effort to get to 400 on this track in the last innings.
Not impossible, but it would need Australia to drop a lot of catches and bowl a lot of no balls.

Thanks for the clarification. Yes the ball is still bouncing , our nasty fasties must be licking their lips.

The Aussies showed that given un-doctored pitches they are a better side than India.

Well done lads, a great team effort with Lyon showing his class at the end.

Yeah, a convincing win in the end, and a good all round team performance where everyone contributed something.
Yet I still think there are some problems.
The biggest worry was the Captain.
His bowling was good at times, but he was let down significantly by the 10 no balls he bowled, three of which cost wickets.
The other bowlers had 3 between them.
Boland bowled three more overs than Cummins over the match and bowled zero no balls.
He is also pretty ordinary at managing the DRS system.
Two of his DRS calls were completely wasted.
The first thing he needs to do is to completely ignore Labuschagne, his DRS judgement is a liability.
Then be more circumspect with when he uses them
Catching DRS decisions need to be particularly well managed, as you lose a review if they are not determined in your favour.
At least with the LBW review there is chance of keeping the review opportunities if it returns umpires call.
Time to move on to the ashes.
Will be most interesting to see how the bazball cricket goes.
The ground sin UK tend to be smaller, so sometimes even mis hit slogs can go over the ropes.
Australia may well struggle, as the English bowling attack is probably equal to that of OZ( assuming that Andrson is fit to play) , except perhaps for the spin department.
Moeen Ali has not proved to be successful against Oz in the past, whereas Lyon has done so for OZ.
The English batsmen are in form, with some impressive new talent like Brook, Pope and Josh Tongue.
Should be an entertaining series.
Biggest problem for me is that we may take off in the van to places where TV reception is problematical to say the least.
Mick

Sounds like it is getting rough in the ashes test, the poms are getting rude and nasty, the team should put in a formal complaint for bullying, name calling and I'm sure we could fit racial vilification in as well.
Apparently the team management has called in a team of therapists, to help the players work their way through this traumatic experience.:roflmao:
The incident has been reported to the ICC, along with the fact the balls are too hard and hurt when they strike the batsmen. I mean seriously is this what sports reporting has come down to??

Fiery England quick Ollie Robinson says he does not care how Australia take his expletive-laden send-off of Usman Khawaja, justifying it as part of the Ashes theatre.
Robinson is no stranger to controversy.

He attracted attention on the day of his Test debut when historic racial and sexist slurs posted on social media by him surfaced, prompting an apology and suspension.

Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey said he did not see the Khawaja incident on Sunday, after England went to stumps 2-28 and leading by 35 in their second innings.

But Robinson is unlikely to have endeared himself to Australia, after also stating in the lead up England were going to give the visitors a "hiding' in the series.
