at 4/35 then 5/80 I would have given them little chance.
Mind you , after Australia had NZ 8/107 on that first day, it really should have been a cake walk.
Still a few issues that need to be resolved, but a win is a win.
Some teams would have blocked that last over to give Carey a chance of another century, but not these Blokes.
team always comes first, personal glory comes a long way second.

As the sheffield shield comes to its final game of the season, it is interesting to look at the top scorers and wicket takers this year.
Cameron Bancroft just missed out on being the highest shield run getter for the fourth year in a row.
Not that it makes any difference, it is patently obvious that despite the pious denials by cricket authorities, and the Australian Captain, his file has been marked with a big red cross, never to be picked again.
The best performed opener in Shield cricket cannot get a guernsey when one of the openers retires, soon to be followed by another.
But let us look at who made the runs.

The standout is Beau Webster who was just shy of the magical 1,000 runs in a season at a healthy average of 65
To further make his year even more impressive he took 26 wickets at 28 a piece.
Thats an impressive performance. Now needs to back it up next season.
Nathan Mcsweeney came in third with 762 runs, but with an average of bareky 40, though he slo took 4 wickets at 19.
Sam Whiteman, a wicketkeeper, came in 5th at 658 at an average of 48, and prbably is third in line for the wicket keepers position.
Olly Davies with 670 runs from limited games scored 3 centuries and 3 50's with a very healthy average of 81 was a another standout.
Not many others had averages above 45,
The bowlers , Chris Tremain topped the list, but is probably past it.
Nathan Mcandrew came in second with 48 wickets, but at 31 he might also have missed the boat.
Fergus O'neil was a bit of a surprise packet in only his second year in the shield took 40 wickets at the very good average of 17.25 and is one to watch.
Cory Rocchiccioli was also a surprise as a spinner on pace friendly WA pitches with39 wickets at a tad under 30.
The rest of the firld were mostly mature seasoned players

The shield final is under way, and Sam Whiteman shone on day one with a tough century.
Cooper Connolly also chipped in with a 90 when it lloked like WA were going to be rolled for less than 250.
He is product of the OZ U19 squad, and is someone to keep an eye on.
Making runs in the shield final is worth a lot more than the hit and miss T20 game.

Usa beating Pakistan!

Pat Cummins has just taken a hat trick against Bangladesh in the T20 world cup.
He is the second Oz bowler to take a hat trick in the WC, the other being Brett Lee, also against Bangladesh.
Bangladesh finish on 8/140, which may not be enough to defend against the OZ side.

pat Cummins took another hatrick against Afghanistan, but it was not enough to stave off a historic defeat for Australia.
First time the Ghanis have defeated Oz in any format.
Unless Australia manage to defeat India in their last game, they are likely to be bundled out of the T20 WC.
Mick

Australia well beaten by India.
Now its almost impossible for them to make the T20 WC semi finals.
Maybe a pay cut in the offing for our well paid Oz cricketers?

South Africa retains their Choker tag by choking at the end of the biggest stage,
With the two onlu unbeaten sides playing off for the world cup, South Africa were cruising to victory after 16 overs need ing 30 runs off 30 balls with six wickets in hand.
That they managed to lose four wickets and cored only 23 runs to lose by seven runs.
They will struggle forever with the choker tag.
The end was not without controversy however.
The first ball of the last over where 16 runs were required was smashed by David Miller toward the ropes where Yadav took a spectacular catch taking the ball just inside the rope and flicking it back inside to retake and send Miller on his way.
However, replays shown on social media suggested that Yadav had flicked the boundary rope when he still had the ball in hand which would have meant the shot was called a six, Sth Africa would then have required 10 off the last 5 with the big hitting Miller still on strike.
Inexplicably, match officials did not show any replays of the incident, though that does not mean they did not look at it.

This series was of little interest to me given the time zone and the restricted broadcast in Australia.

Tournaments where our national team competes should be broadcast FTA in my opinion.

A very short sighted attitude from the ACB, if people cannot watch the game on FTA then the discussions in pubs and clubs stop.

The next generation find something else to talk about and within a few years it will be like Rugby, it was once worth talking about

it seems that the Seth Efrican womens team are to be marked as chokers like their male counterparts.
After India made 6/603 , Seth Efrica were cruising along at 4/249.
They then lost 6/17 to be all out 266. Following on, they have got to 8/366, a lead of just 1 run.
Hard to see India unable to be winning this one off test.

Now that the rather pointless white ball cricket is out of the way, we can turn our attention to the more important bits of the cricket world.
The first day of the sheffield shield have once again sorted the pretenders.
Australia needs some openers.
At least one right now, and another within the next two years.
Cameron Bancroft did his chances no good by failing for a golden duck.
Marcus Harris on the other hand went on to make a sold 143 opening for Victoria.
A young up and comer who performed well in the U19 world cup is Sam Kostas, also an opener who compiled his maiden first class century going on to make 152. A young man to watch.
Mitch Marsh , one of the few test team members playing shield cricket, only managed 13.
Sam Whiteman, the WA captain, continued on from his good from from last season with a patient 102, while Josh Inglis rattled au a quickfire 122.
In that same game, Michael Nesser took 5 for 33.
Given his improved batting both in the shield last year, and in his recent stint in the English league, he must surely be considered a ready made replacement for either Cameron Green or Mitch Marsh if neither come up fitness wise, though at 34 he is probably considered past it.

Cricket has had some crazy results recently.
Firstly, the incredible win by England in Pakistan.
Pakistan batted first and put on a more than respectable first innings score of 556, at at a decent clip too of just under 4 per overb with three players reaching their century..
Nine times out of ten, batting first on the sub continet and gettinga 500 plus score means yoiu are likely to only bat once.
But England don't follow the historical scripts.
fresh from getting knocked over by Sri Lanka in the last test on Endglands home turf, they looked anything but overawed.
They managed to bazball their way to 8/723 for 7 declared at the phenomenal rate of5 .5 an over.
It was the higest total scored by any team in Pakistan.
Despite losing Captain Ollie Pope of the second ball, they cruised to 3 for 249, then did not lose another wicket for another 530 runs, almost as much as Pakistan scored in total.
Along the way, Joe Root continued his recent outstanding form to post 262, and Harry Brook racked up a cool 317 to bring his test average up to an astounding 88.6.
It was his first triple century in any level of cricket.
This bloke can bat.
Pakistan folded in their second innings for 220 to give England an innings and 47 run victory.
They managed to set so many records, it would take half a page to fill them,
Pakistan became the first term in test history to lose by an innings after making more than 500 runs in their first innings.
Root and Brooks partnership was the highest for the 4th wicket for England, and the highest for all wickets for England.
It was the highest 4th wicket partnership for all countries, and the forth highest partnership in all tests.
Joe Root passed Alistair Cooks record for the most runs scored by an England player, and has a good chance of eventually overtaking Tendulkar as the highest run scorer in test Cricket.
Both players recorded their highest ever test scores.
A remarkable test, and Australia's expectations of a clean sweep against the poms next time they tour here may be severely dented.

My sources say Eng scored 7/823, an incredible effort by them.
