Geez, i went out to lunch with a few blokes when the Kiwis were seemingly in control at 0/42.
I come back at tea and they are 162 all out, and lucky to get there as the last two wickets put on a 50+ stand.
Guess we won' know how good or bad that bscore is until the OZ boys bat, but they would have to bat pretty poorly to get anything bother than a sizeable first dig lead.
And M Starc has gone past D Lillee on the highest wicket takers list.

The pitches are sub par but the Kiwis look pretty ordinary.

Hopefully Smith can get into double figures.

These pitches are a farce and the curators need to go back to turf school on how to prepare a track. Our gardner in Yackandandah produced something more playable.

Lived in a shack behind the bottom pub for 2 years, 2001-02. Woke up one morning with a sheep next to me. Other than that was a very good two years. And I do think the cricket pitch was better than this crap.

Did you pick up the sheep off a New Zealander, in the pub the night before? 🤣 🤣 🤣

But on a serious note, a really nice place, very friendly, the wife and I loved it.

I must get around to making time for watching the cricket again, life has become busy with 8 grandkids. :wheniwasaboy:

Kiwis making a game out of it. Australia has used 8 bowlers. Time to give Carey a trundle.

You need a lot of luck on this pitch.
There is some help for the fast bowlers, though it disappears once the ball gets soft and the seam flattens.
Saw one over described on Cricinfo where Hazelwood beat the bat six times in a row, and after about 100 deliveries, Rachindra had an "in control" percentage of barely seventy.
That means 30 deliveries where he was beaten or played a false shot.
The sort of luck I would need to make a decnt score.

Alex Carey just took his 10th catch of the game
he is now to equal the most catches in a test for Australia that was held by Adam Gilchrist.
There are still calls to drop him because hois batting has not been up to scratch recently.

2-22, we will be lucky to make 150.

Time to reconsider opening with Smith?

I would go with Green opening, Head 3 , Smith 4, Labushagne 5.

They need to persist for another tour I think. But, next in line to try opening may be the Lab. Green and Marsh have to stay in the team now so I can't see how they drop someone to bring in a specialist opener. I think the selectors might be thinking this is just a lull for the top order and they'll work through it.

From what I have seen, both Lab. and Smith are getting too square on to bowling pitched on the stumps, consequently their bats are coming down in a line from the slips to mid on and not in line with the flight of the ball. I think they need to sort out their techniques in their holidays.

Good observation Horace.
I this is why they need a specialist opener, or at least someone who knows where their off stump is, and plays the line.
So many batspersons get out following a swinging or seaming ball.
If a no3 is consistently coming in at first drop when the new ball is under ten overs, they will develop the technique or fall by the wayside.
We also need to look at the future.
Green is the only player under 30.
Smith will be 35 this year, Kawaja will be 38, Lyon will be 37, Cummins 31, Hazelwood 34, Starc 35 both Marsh and Carey will be 33 and Trav Head the second youngest will be 31.
in three years time, how many of this group will be still be playing test cricket??
