Not entirely trueChina has never won a war in any military confrontation with any other country. When the entire world is against them its just a suicide for them to even think of a war.
The world press is reporting as of 9pm AEST that President Xi Peng has announced that he is preparing his military to solve some of it's problems post-Coronavirus.
He has stated that China is in a better state militarily because of Coronavirus than the USA.
The suggestion is that he will solve China's problems with Hong Kong by force. The USA has stated that they will repatriate any businesses who wish to, back to America.
This will, whether it is bluster or not, increase the game of brinkmanship both militarily and economically between China and the West. Australia will suffer in my opinion. Trade will never be the same again.

they, the West are trying to Replay their success over Japan in WW2China has never won a war in any military confrontation with any other country. When the entire world is against them its just a suicide for them to even think of a war. And for Australia and the west its a right time to look for better options and partnerships.
The West is being undermined from within, but hey we have had a good run, the strong still come through.Jeez, I could have put this in any one of a dozen different threads, but I think this might be at least somewhat appropriate as trade might be the most profound effect (ignoring of course the possibility of emp's and/or converting each of Australians capital cities into 500 square kilometres of glass).
Meanwhile, the west is spending the vast majority of its military budget on rainbow lapels and sex change operations for most of its "grunt" (it's hyperbole, okay? {Or is it?})
mega-torpedo was what i heard , but don't underestimate the UK's grip on financial services and insurance services ( and chicanery )The West is being undermined from within, but hey we have had a good run, the strong still come through.
The weak perish, life goes on. Lol
That's why even now Russia when sprouting their propoganda, it isn't about destroying France, Belgium, Sweden or any other European Country.
It is about dropping a megga bomb, that will wipe out the U.K, funny that. Lol
No, Britain has been a stumbling block for European domination for a long, long, long time, it is a pizz ant Island full of angry people who don't roll over easily. now of course the UK , might have been used as an example , when in reality a priority target would be the port system on the US West Coast
PS Scotland with it's higher ground would probably only suffer inconvenient damage

they have probably made a BIG mistake
Australia is captured by the Military Industrial Complex a better option will not be looked for ( by those with real control )
At long last this thread takes the direction I had hoped on its commencement 4 years ago. All good thoughts and arguments, quoted and not. I wish I had an answer. The West is being undermined from within, but hey we have had a good run, the strong still come through.

The question is IMO, was the orange a loon, if so why hasn't any of his initiatives been overturned, if anything they have been strengthened. At long last this thread takes the direction I had hoped on its commencement 4 years ago. Since the plague I have been munching much upon history, all the way from Alexander and his pappy via the Persians, other dart picks in the known world from St. Petersburg to Londinium, via Alexandria and Babylon and Jerusalem ( always for what it is worth just a dusty circumcised godforsaken outpost long overdue for a pillage and over which those of a religious peanut brain over fight ), finally Rome and the Enlightenment and to Washington, the latter being hard to beat in more ways than one.
So when we say "WE" or "US" perhaps we need to pin it down, is it DC and the mob about to be led again by the Orange Loon as Rome was by Nero with no great disaster for their mis-rule, or is it the post Enlightenment World, or even Christianity itself as argued by Tom Holland?
I know who I'm agin ! Its just the faces keep changing.
But who are WE ?
Perhaps this is not the right thread, or even the right forum. So maybe back to U-Toob and Murray, Peterson and their jolly mob. I'm agin totalitarianism,The Great Khan, XiPing, Putin, Assad, the Utter Mullahs and a host of minor finger lickin' bloodied fingers raising their hands to a slave owning god.
But who are we? What is The West ? And is it worth dying for ? Should Xi send the price of TSM Taiwan Semi-Conductor Manufacturing from its present $99 down to $3.50 in a week, will we all just shrug our shoulders and begin to study Mandarin?

That is fluff, the tarrifs were denegrated endlessly as a negative to the U.S economy, but they have since been increased and are more far reaching, which in all probability has caused a lot of the current turmoil.Biden has achieved far more but will not get recognition on this thread. Trumps tariffs had little effect. The Chinese deficit actually increased under his reign. What has brought China into pain is targeted actions by Biden.
‘A sea change’: Biden reverses decades of Chinese trade policy
Forget tariffs. Biden’s actions to crack down on Beijing’s tech development has done more to hinder the Chinese economy — and divide the two nations — than Trump ever did.

one would hope Xi is a student of history since he has been entangled in it at least twice and Chinese history has plenty of lessons for allAt long last this thread takes the direction I had hoped on its commencement 4 years ago. one would hope that becomes the way forward, at the moment looking at the middle East and Ukraine it is becoming less likely.China ( and any other aspiring world power)will be better with cooperation between states than using the military or fiscal stick
sadly , that is the way i see it also , but many nations have insane debt levels , that cannot be fixed by normal ( peaceful ) meansone would hope that becomes the way forward, at the moment looking at the middle East and Ukraine it is becoming less likely.
Productivity goes through the roof during wars.sadly , that is the way i see it also , but many nations have insane debt levels , that cannot be fixed by normal ( peaceful ) means
history suggests a major , attention-diverting war , which sucks out the local economy in the name of 'patriotism ' ( war bonds' and 'emergency taxes ' )
on the plus side ( for me ) i am too old and infirm , to be coerced into such a slaughter-fest following by extensive looting by the victors
and of course the collapsed economies will be blamed on the war not the clownish antics that preceded the conflict
