Census 2006

We all like reading those little stats in the paper....like woman are getting married at X age, having children a Y age.

The average income is this amount

The richest post code is XXXX

There are X amount of cars on the road

There are x amount of briths per year, this suburb has the highest birth rate

and so on and so forth...

so when you are filling out the form, you are also creating a field day for the media...etc.

Lighten up boys and girls, the government are not out their to get you, they just want to know more about you, as a whole! :2twocents

Have you ever thought why the government even needs to have that information, surely it cant be to help Murdoch sell more papers,so it goes without saying that its to aim services at them ,why would they do that,so the people in those oh so grateful places, remember and vote accordingly.
But you seem to disagree,so another thought must be ,we need this information so you can be gainfully employed, too much trouble for my liking, that.

Well I am very proud to be working for the government, and have no problems collecting information and doing my job to get paid. But then each to their own.

You have the right not to fill in the census forms, but I hope you have very deep pockets to pay the fine :2twocents

Stop,
never said I wouldnt be filling in the census, but here is the reason why this discussion started going off the rails.
And if I knew how to include multiple quotes I could add others.

:)

If only more people weren't caught up in this dichotomy of left/right, liberal/labor, democrat/republican etc and realised that it is government that is the problem.

Stop the Clock

Frankly, I admire your fortitude in being prepared to take on the job of census collecting. You will have to run the gamut of far worse comments than those already registered on this thread, people cranky at simply being disturbed and asked to participate in yet another government "thing" etc.
And that's not to mention THE DOGS!!!

Good luck

Julia

Hmmm I can imagine it would be Smurf, but then what about all those people who put down their religion as 'Jedi Knights' or whatever reference it was to star wars.

If the govt is going to enforce the census with a penalty, you think that providing true info would also be required as well.. ?

The good thing is that any problems will be dealt with by my supervisor. So if I get to a house and they own 20 dogs and appear to be anti government, then I can just handball that case onto someone else.

If it all gets just too much I could always burts into tears at the front doorstep

Anyway I live in a very wealthy area, so I assume that my suburbs will be easier than many who live in poverty areas, filled with drugs/alcohol/violence/people with just bad attitudes etc.

So Stop, what you are really saying is that people in your area are the actual end benefitiaries of all this drug selling, and violence so on.
So really you should be even more careful because they can actually afford to organise the bad attitude ,and when they get caught they can also pay for the right people to get them out of the poop.

What would you suggest as an alternative?

I'm interested to know how you draw this conclusion from Stop's previous post saying he will be collecting in an affluent area?

Cheers

"visual" and "happy" seem to be very "anti-government" LOL...we have seperate forms for these types of people and ways of dealing with this non compliance.

Firstly we :whip then then we :behead:

Another possibility that government is against us :D :D :D

Hi Julia. I'm glad you asked :)

I could go on and on, but it is probably better to provide you with a couple of links so that you can find out in more detail what I (& many others) believe.
Labels can often create more confusion than illumination, but I guess I would call myself a libertarian.
I believe in the philosophy espoused by the Ludwig von Mises Institute - laissez faire capitalism, sound money, free choice, firm property rights etc.
Here is a link to a lecture by Mark Thornton, entitled An Introduction to Libertarianism. It's about 9mb to download and it goes for about 35 minutes. I'm sure you will find it very... elucidating, if you haven't before heard of libertarianism, or if you are unfamiliar with what it affirms.

That may well be true Visual.

My thoughts are only based on reality. I just feel so so so sorry for the census collectors that have to collect in areas known to be trouble spots.

Glad I don't carry any cash, I might be bashed or robbed or set on fire

My buddy's a census collector. I didn't really think about 'trouble neighbourhoods'. I'll have to ask him where he's been assigned to go..
