Just a friendly reminder that census collectors will be hitting the streets within weeks dropping off census forms.

All households will be required to fill out either the paper copy or e-census copy online.

The date of the census is Tue 8th August

By law any household that do not comply will be fined $100 per day, each and every day the forms are late.

Please do the right thing and fill them out...and be nice to your collector (I am one of them this year)

What measures are taken to make it impossible for census data collector to collect some data for himself?

Or integrity and honesty of data collector is the only safeguard?

If you know the census collector personally and you do not want them to know any of your personal details you can ask for a privacy envelope, that way no information can be obtained.

Census collectors have had police clearances before they start work, are fully trained and are not to discuss any personal information, or they breach rules and can be fined $5,000

If you are in any doubt you could always fill out the on-line version (e-census) that way no information leaves your doorstep, and is only accessed by The ABS in Melbourne

Lately smashed ‘identity fraud syndicate’ have had some bank employees too, who I suppose were sworn to secrecy of client's data.

As to Bali 9 it was life for $10,000 and free trip, to jail as it turned out.

If similar proportion is used for stealing personal information, I hate to think how much $? is paid to balance $5,000 fine for stealing data.

I am sorry that I cannot solve the global problem of identity theft for you happy.

I am just doing my job, and getting paid by the government to do it.

I hope you understand that the government needs the stats to better understand the needs of the community and build hospitals, schools, roads and finance public transport etc in the most cost effective way.

I understand, and as to critics of how valuable information is not fully utilised, since we have such a congestion on the roads and such long queues in hospitals, I suppose the official answer is –

Imagine what would it be if we didn’t have all that information!

Or something like that.

Congestion on the roads is caused mainly by affluent areas of society and with higher petrol prices, the roads will become a little less congested, so that problem will be solved.

...and long queues in hospitals are caused mainly by lifestyle factors such as Diabetes (Type II- cause by over eating), Drugs, Alcohol, smoking and obesity

for a happy person, you are sounding like a very un-happy person

I would rather like to see myself as observant, but suppose with bigger exposure to official line of thought you know better and I appreciate your comments.

And we just know they will do a terrific job don't we?!

especially when it comes to building schools and hospitals and roads and such in the western suburbs of Melbourne.

Happy, are you saying that depriving the western suburbs is a blessing?

No, what I am saying that without all the beaut information it could be worse.

Happy,I wasnt sure if you were being sarcastic,so I had to double check :

However living in the western suburbs I have to wonder how more awful things could be.

If this is true, obviously forms are not filled correctly, or things change faster that 5 year Census is able to pinpoint.

Maybe census has to be conducted more often?

We all like reading those little stats in the paper....like woman are getting married at X age, having children a Y age.

The average income is this amount

The richest post code is XXXX

There are X amount of cars on the road

There are x amount of briths per year, this suburb has the highest birth rate

and so on and so forth...

so when you are filling out the form, you are also creating a field day for the media...etc.

Lighten up boys and girls, the government are not out their to get you, they just want to know more about you, as a whole!

hm hm so they can aim our dollars where they are going to get the most votes, unfortunately for the western suburbs we are continually seen as safe, so no need for a fist ful of money.

"visual" and "happy" seem to be very "anti-government" LOL...we have seperate forms for these types of people and ways of dealing with this non compliance.

Firstly we :whip then then we :behead:

so stop the clock, would you rather we blame the generation who came before us?hmmmm
