Australian (ASX) Stock Market Forum

What I meant by data feed limitations is the number of symbols you can look at in any one session. ie: if I wanted to scan the whole market for say ASX for simple criteria (Volume MA spikes) can I do that and if so is it expensive?

The Market Analyser doesn't put a limit on the number of requests or codes; ASX is all real-time, provided by Iress. (There may be an option to get delayed data for less, but you'll have to ask the D2MX team about that.)

Recommended combo Amibroker with ZeroLinetrader http://www.zerolinetrader.com/ScreenShots/ (for price ladders). Using it 10 years is still cheaper and more powerful than using software made by students for students. NT doesn't even offer portfolio trading, AFAIK. And more. Use it for charting and fancy indicators that don't earn anything.

Hi WayOfTheTrader --

Captain Black is correct, you can download a free copy of my book, "Introduction to AmiBroker."
http://www.introductiontoamibroker.com/

It has a chapter with ten exercises that take you through the basics of charting and indicators, to writing and testing trading systems. All the AmiBroker code is provided. The trial version of AmiBroker, with the trial data base, will work for the exercises. No cost to try it out.

I recommend Norgate Premium Data for end-of-day data and DTN IQ for real time data. I use both myself. There is a chapter in the Introduction book explaining in detail how to install each of those data services.

Whichever trading system development platform you select, you must become enough of a programmer to write your own systems. And you must become enough of a statistician to be able to determine the health of your system as it is being traded. There is a substantial learning curve with all of the platforms. Those that are exceptionally easy to use at first often lack features that you will need in a few months.

I have heard of Amnibroker an oldie but a goodie I take it?

I will have a look at it but to get more specific can it handle:

Multi monitors
Multi workspaces
Any limitations on feeds

Others that I have heard some good things about:

Profit Source
Phoenix AI

I know I will eventually have to just dive in a find out which suits my needs (and budget) the best but I appreciate the prompt feedback.
Handling the multiple monitors is always a great thing but you need to get more focus on quality trade execution in the market.Do the multiple time frame analysis before you execute your trade.
