Here is another view

A contraction in the market lasting 6 to 16 months. It is iimpossible for people to actually stay still for great lengths of time. Hence the breakout.

The definition of a bear market is when the market condition is falling and experts expect further falls... The experts seem to be getting this one wrong since 2003.

There are different sorts of bear markets. A koala bear market is when confidence is lacking, volume and price drop a little. A panda bear market is when the experts give out sell advice and the market drops a little more. A grizzly takes over when even the techies prefer cash deposits.( and they probably helped cause it in the first place.)
