Australian Politics General...

Nearly 10 years old that poll.
The good thing about the poll being 10 years old is, it was conducted after Howard had been out of office for about two to three terms, so therefore it was taken when people still had accurate memories and had worked during his terms in office.
A poll held now, would be heavily influenced by anecdotal evidence being passed down and distorted by both left and right wing hacks. :xyxthumbs

Malcolm, jeez he was absolutely hated by the workers, Howard was actually liked by the workers, until he blew his feet off with the 'workchoices brain fart'.
Since Howard, there really hasn't been a standout politician, that's why the margins of winning and losing elections are pretty slim.
Albo started alright and if he sorts out the cost of housing/rent will probably stay around, until he hands over to Bill, which should happen after Albo qualifies for the top rate pension.
The only things that will unravel labor IMO, is housing and or a severe grid collapse, but that shouldn't happen for a couple of years IMO.:2twocents
Unfortunately, we pay a pretty high price for out politicians but only seem to get the Organ Grinder's Monkey making decisions.
Oh, woe is us.

I actually think it's a pretty hard gig, no matter what you do a large percentage of the population will dislike you, it certainly takes a certain type of person to do it.
They are all driven by something, that something is all that differs between them. ;)

Smurf its simply about power and in modern Australia that's being exercised by wealth no matter the politics there will never be a return to what you term "old left".
I'm looking at how little is said about 'Community Batteries', spruked in the lead-up to the last election by the ALP, now though while it's in Government ????. The concept was never something to be owned by the community ; it was only ever something that was located in a community setting to be owned and operated by vested interests and for the interest those owner$( Donor$$$).
Thank the financial gods for a cost of living crisis to distract from the causes of the costs of your living.

Left wing thought wants people to know this ---- Right wing does not .... There's a 'reach-around' with the LNP & the ALP.... mmmm cummfy as buggery.

This is the problem ATM.

True believers can talk it up as much as they like, but local rents where I am have gone from a minimum of $250/wk a year ago, to a min of $450/wk now, that just isn't going to work IMO.

Could be fixed via the tax system. If weekly rent exceeds say 20% of median weekly earnings, tax is levied on the rent received at 60% of the difference.

Just a thought.

The Govt has treasury and the ATO, there would be a million ideas available, crime is going to really take off IMO.
Finding that sort of money, plus runninga car and feeding a family, somethings got to give.

Too blunt, and would force even more landlords out of the market. Even at as it stands at the moment there was no way in Hades I would invest in rental properties given other options in the sector.

"The opposition leader, Peter Dutton, used a taxpayer-funded private jet to travel to a News Corp event in Tamworth, claiming $23,000 in travel expenses to speak at the summit where he criticised the government’s response to the cost-of-living crisis."

Snouts in the trough, all of them.

Dutton is basically a non threat. No one is voting that Muppet.

Leading the polls at the moment
It depends who they select to poll and what result they want to get, as Mo says, Dutton is unelectable IMO.
That was why the big push was on to get Frydenberg back into the game, god knows why he would want to, best thing he ever did getting out. 🤣

It is actually a competition between who is unelectable and who is unre-electable.

As we have noted on this forum so many times in the past, oppositions don't win government, governments lose government.

As far as I can see Albo is seriously on the nose, but is Dutton less on the nose?

Who the frack knows?

Unless he makes major stuff ups I reckon Albo will get another go, although he has to do more on the energy and housing issues.

Giving a one off rebate on power cuts leading up to the next election doesn't really cut it, they are just papering over the cracks, but people look at Dutton and see nine years of nothing, proposed doctor taxes on his watch and now his ridiculous nuclear proposal.

Get rid of him and there is no one not stained in some way by their last term.

Both of the major parties are cause for extreme depression Horace.

Even all of the minor parties have some sort of a deal breaker and not a charismatic leader anywhere in sight from any of the parties.

It certainly is a sad state of affairs, when no one can give any real hope and vision.
Neither party is giving any light at the end of the tunnel.
I just put the t.v on and there on the news was a lady explaining that anything above rent, food and clothing is a luxury and people should look at cutting them out.
Great suggestions in a supposed first world country at the top of its game.
Meanwhile we are trying to repair relations with a developing country, so that they keep buying our raw materials to maintain our income, while our only viable investment is selling real estate to each other at ever increasing prices.
Sounds like a first world country in free fall really. Lol
Anyone noticed the ASX hasn't gone anyware in years, wonder why?
Where is a statesman when you need one.

Can't say I'm surprised, but to slightly disagree, he does represent a sliver of Australians... Left wing extremists, climate derangement sufferers, an self loathers... oh and a lot of just plain morons.

Good article here too:
