Australian Politics General...

It's funny, when trouble arises the politicians are the first to call for a patriotic response, to save them, their loved ones and their chattels from the invaders.
Yet they are also the first to denigrate that patriotism by demeaning the symbols, structures, ceremonies and principles that build that feeling of being one nation and belonging.
Weird people politicians, they certainly have lost their way, maybe they should all have to read out JFK quote (Ask not what the country can do for me, but what I can do for the country) before they start work everyday?

Can't say I'm surprised, but to slightly disagree, he does represent a sliver of Australians... Left wing extremists, climate derangement sufferers, an self loathers... oh and a lot of just plain morons.
The Greens, like most political parties, have completely lost their way it seems.

Ahh what a difference a redistribution makes...
I look forward to Paul Fletchers upcoming announcement to; retire to spend more time with his family ... says a liitle 'voices's' for Bradfield in my head..... so many voices.

I thought this was clever take on David stating that nuclear power stations would be in National seats. Note 3 eyed fish from The Simpson's.

I heard him discuss this on the ABC and he was very good and gave some strong arguments.
I am personally undecided regarding nuclear power but definitely not on the anti brigade. Please just take this with some humour.

Suffice to say I find it truly sad that what are rationally engineering and economic decisions have become a matter of politics.

Only when politics gets out of the way is any real progress on this or similar issues likely. :2twocents

Did we all miss this, or just not care?

I could see this coming a while back. Didn't think it would hit so fast. The comments are brutal.

Apparently pro Palestine supporters are being blamed for a couple attacks on Labor mps. Unsure as to who the albo one was.

No need for attacks in this country or we will end up with extra scummy politicians.
I dislike politicians. But most are trying to do their best to keep as many people as happy as possible. Public lynchings won't help anyone.

I think people have just been overdone with once in a lifetime causes, that now they dont give a flck about anything.

Hasn't Albo noticed there is at least one violent stabbing or some other sort of violent death in the newspapers every day.

Why would he think that he being targeted, would be any different to the rest of us, it is becoming common.

That's why more people are carrying knives FFS.
IT isn't quiet yet a dumpster fire, but there is smoke.

Inclusiveness seems to have gone out the window, maybe an new heading selective inclusiveness? You can be included, if you agree with us and do as you are told. As usual all sides of politics are found wanting IMO.

Senator Faruqi said even as the young Labor senator was considering her actions, there were "unsourced whispers" from Labor MPs "vilifying" Senator Payman for her expression of her faith.

"I think being the other brown Muslim woman in the senate, I can understand far better than most what Senator Payman has been going through. Not just over the last few weeks, but just in general," Senator Faruqi said.

Within hours of leaving the party, media reports also emerged citing senior Labor figures who questioned Senator Payman's eligibility to remain in the party, because of a potential dual citizenship.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton said on Friday it would be "pretty red hot" if Labor had known there was a constitutional issue with Senator Payman while she was still a member of the party.

Frontbencher Murray Watt said he had no information to suggest there was an issue with Senator Payman's citizenship, and dismissed it as a "media story".

The difference between dignified and deplorable, class and classless, retired and wretched ghost IMO. 🤣
Is there any wonder the Liberals are out in the wilderness, poor old Malcolm personifies the arrogant elite muppet, that sees politics as his right, rather than an honour.

While he labelled Mr Biden as a “decent man” who’s had a “great deal of personal tragedy in his life”, Mr Howard questioned the 81-year-old’s ability to complete a second term as president.

“It’s not for me to be so presumptuous to tell my American friends what they should be doing but it doesn’t stop me observing that there’s growing worry about his capacity,” Mr Howard said in an interview with Sky News.

Former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has stunned the panel on The Project with a scathing attack on former Coalition colleague Peter Dutton.

Mr Turnbull left The Project hosts lost for words when he launched into a blistering tirade on the federal Opposition Leader on Sunday night.

When asked what sort of Prime Minister Peter Dutton would make if he was to win the next federal election, Mr Turnbull gave a very blunt response.

'I think that's something we should contemplate with dread,' Mr Turnbull said.

The comment sparked astonishment from the panel.

The studio audience erupted with laughter at Mr Turnbull's comment.

Turnbull was always the Manchurian candidate.

Turnbull was always the Manchurian candidate.
Yes to myself and most of the people I know and they are blue collar people, they despise him, his smugness, self adoration and arrogance epitomises what the working class hates about the condescending elites. ;)

No doubt when the audience laughed at his comments, he felt they were laughing with him, I bet a pound to a pinch of shyte they were laughing at him.

Let's be honest, he can't even be loyal to those he led, how could those on struggle street put their faith in him. Shallow Mal.

Not a good look, a bit like if a big business donator to the the Liberal Party being busted for corruption, without all the fanfare on ASF, silence is golden.
As I always say, people who live in glass houses, shouldn't throw stones. ;)
Will there be an investigation into Government corruption, regarding if there was preferential treatment of tenders, due to CFMEU influence?

As I keep saying one side of politics is no better than the other, when it comes to pandering to their affiliates, it's a shame the debate always got bogged down in the "no they're not, yes they are, no they're not" cycle.
Things would get so much quicker if the public held all politicians to account on what they do, not what they say they will do, both sides are guilty of it.
But is it the public's fault for not speaking out, or do the public speak out and no one listens, as per the banking royal commission findings.
Whether the tax payers money is being rorted by the Banks, or by the Unions stacking job costs, it's all the taxpayers money and it is being misappropriated and both major parties are guilty of ignoring it for personal political gain.
Good on the SMH for exposing it.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan were separately sent detailed evidence in 2022 that CFMEU officials were threatening extreme violence and unlawfully black-banning non-union-preferred firms from state and federally funded projects.

A letter from the directors of an Indigenous labour-hire firm, which was emailed to Allan in April 2022 when she was Victorian deputy premier, details serious threats of extreme violence, intimidation and unlawful union black bans on the federal and state-funded Monash Freeway upgrade project run by major contractor CPB.

In a separate extraordinary development, it can also be revealed that questions sent to the CFMEU from this masthead about the union’s links to organised criminals were subsequently leaked to an accused criminal in NSW with deep organised crime links.

The accused criminal’s syndicate has ties to CFMEU-backed labour-hire firms winning work on Minns’ government-funded projects.
This masthead has confirmed that about 48 hours after questions were sent to the CFMEU, they were in the hands of the alleged criminal, who can’t be named for legal reasons but whose syndicate has a strong relationship with certain NSW union officials.

The revelations come as the crisis engulfing the union deepened on Monday, with the CFMEU placing the Victorian branch into administration and announcing its own investigation into claims of bikie and underworld infiltration and allegations union support was being traded for kickbacks.

Albanese has said that action is insufficient and Workplace Relations Minister Tony Burke confirmed he was still considering deregistration.

Allan meanwhile pledged to suspend the CFMEU from the Labor Party and temporarily bar the union’s political donations while she referred the matter to Victoria Police and the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission for investigation.

She also flagged a review of state government building contracts and a request to the federal government to assess all construction industry pay deals to ensure they were free of improper conduct.

Allan repeatedly insisted, at her Monday morning press conference, that she had “zero tolerance” for the intimidating behaviour revealed by this masthead and 60 Minutes but could not explain why it took a year to address the detailed evidence presented to her about serious CFMEU misconduct on state government Big Build sites
