Australian Politics General...

Definitely. When you think of people like James Ashby, Peter Slipper, Bronwyn Bishop Christain Porter, Alan Tudge etc plus most of the Parliament who benefit from their own negative gearing laws, it's easy to see that they come first and the public second. About 6 months in the ivory tower with the chauffered cars and airforce jets and free accommodation and they lose all touch with reality.
Yes some of these politicians and staffers should try taking a gap year and try a real fckn job, like 12 hr shifts in a 24/7 365 day industry, or laying bricks, instead of working out more creative ways to get more taxpayer money to spend.
Jeez Australia has lost the plot IMO.

I'll settle for any job where actual results are required and objectively measurable.

Anything from farming to setting up the stage for live performances there's an objective measure that you're getting it done or you're not, there's no ability to talk your way out of it, and failure is not an option. The cows have to be milked and the show starts at 8pm. Etc. :2twocents

I think both parties personalities were exposed, when they went to Parliament house after a night on the slops.
All that has happened since IMO, is it has been further and further exposed.
Definitely exposed, but would it have been a good sight??

@sptrawler the pollie trough is like a bottomless well that just keeps on filling and giving.

Why would she? He is just looking for his prize payment.
There are workers that have worked their whole lives and would never be able to accumulate, what two people who basically behaved badly are in line to pick up for their bad behaviour.
The World has gone mad, is there any wonder the working class are becoming disenfranchised.
Politics is become a cult sect of socially and morally dissfunctional people IMO.
What do we actually know? Two political staffers went out on the booze, then they bothe walked into Parliament house late at night. The bloke walked out some time later, the lady was found laying semi naked or naked in an office.
The lady woke up with him on top of her apparently, but failed to contact security and or go to a Doctor immediately.
ALl weird stuff, but a huge money spinner for all involved.
Maybe I'm missing something only my memory of the media reports.
Most places I've ever worked at both would have been suspeneded pending dismissal and the police called in.
Firstly Liberal staffers work damn hard and often do 12 hour days, without extra pay.

Secondly what you describe, being plied with drinks and who knows a date rape drug and partially waking out of it mod sex act is rape.
I don't know if anyone has daughter's or wives but talk to them.

Thirdly to help the Liberals and being loyal she went to the minister who marked her as a problem and derailed her career.

Then she went public and was attacked and misogynist stuff started appearing here with hundreds of posts attacking her and supporting the rapist.

Talk to your daughters....and ban me for telling it like it is.

Who knows how it is, neither of them can seem to put forward a credible story.

I have two daughters and two sons, if any of them returned to their workplace inebriated in the middle of the night, I would have no sympathy for them and secondly they wouldn't have got past security if they were drunk at the places I worked
Workers were drug tested, even if they were starting a shift and looked slightly suss.

If it was as straight forward as you make it out, he would be in prison, she isn't a 16 year old who has had no experience dealing with life and its issues.

At the very least she should have reported it to the security, she was raped, she woke do she wasn't drugged and a security person came in and would have talked to her.

Then even if she didn't want to do that, she is a highly intelligent person she could have obtained DNA very easily, even Monika Lewinski knew to do that 20 years ago.

I don't know whether he did or didn't, but they both behaved in an extremely unprofessional way.
They aren't children.

"Brittany Higgins, a former political adviser in Australia, publicly alleged that she was raped by a male colleague in a minister's office in March 2019. However, she didn't report the incident to the police at the time. It wasn't until February 2021, over a year later, that she reported the alleged rape to the Australian Federal Police. This delay in reporting has been a subject of much discussion and debate in Australia."

ChatGPT.

The chances of getting a conviction after that time period are very slim. I think the police probably realised that but the DPP may have been pressured into running the case for "political correctness" reasons.

Did Higgins use a sex worker after or before?

Did Higgins get charged or accused of the same behavior before or after?

In a continuation of the theme of snouts in the trough, this stinks on a number of fronts.
Entsch says he did not receive single cent, however the org that his wife chaired id,
And neither of them declared any conflict of interest.

From Evil Murdoh Press
Veteran Liberal National Party federal MP Warren Entsch gave a taxpayer-funded grant of $4465 to a “women’s empowerment” charity without disclosing his wife was the face of the organisation and its president.
Mr Entsch’s wife Yolonde – now the LNP’s candidate for the must-win state seat of Cairns – was made president of The Social Effect in March 2021 and by December, her husband was announcing the grant funding.
The veteran MP for the far north Queensland electorate of Leichhardt announced $111,975 from the Morrison government’s $20m volunteer grants fund would go to 28 local community organisations, including The Social Effect, which ran annual women’s ‘Radiance’ self-help conferences.
“I have seen first-hand the impact of volunteering here in Cairns and Far North Queensland and how the hard work of local volunteers continues to strengthen our community,” Mr Entsch said in his public announcement on December 1, 2021.
But there is no disclosure of Ms Entsch’s role as the “charity’s” president, regular guest speaker, and heavily advertised face. And though the organisation publicly describes itself as a “charity organisation,” it is not on the nation’s charity register.

In response to questions from The Australian, Mr Entsch said it was “incredibly disappointing to see the Labor party and journalists attacking a strong female candidate”.

He said Ms Entsch did not receive any benefit, “not a single cent from this grant,” and said he “played no role in the decision making process whatsoever”.
“All the grant applications were considered and recommended by a local independent community consultation panel and the grants were administered by the Department of Social Services,” Mr Entsch said.
The Australian has also contacted Ms Entsch and the LNP for comment.
He supplied the expression of interest form that The Social Effect used to apply for $4465 in taxpayer-funding, submitted by Suzie Port and Jessie Griffin. It reveals The Social Effect said it would “enter into an auspice agreement with the Women’s Yarning Place, a social enterprise run entirely by volunteers”.
What the form does not disclose is that Ms Entsch is also the founder of the Women’s Yarning Place. The application says it “provides a safe space for women experiencing challenges such as substance misuse, poverty, domestic violence and mental health issues”.
The grant would be used to buy office furniture, computer equipment, a bathroom hand-dryer, and mental health first aid training for volunteers, the expression of interest form says.
It is not the first time Mr Entsch has directed taxpayer funding to an organisation directly connected with his wife. The Australian revealed last year that Mr Entsch gave his non-Indigenous wife’s private company a $1000 taxpayer-funded NAIDOC week grant from his electorate in November 2020, to “celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander excellence”.
At the time, he denied any wrongdoing.
The Morrison government also gave Ms Entsch a $213,725 two-year grant from its Indigenous Languages and Arts program in 2019-20 to teach pottery in the remote Aboriginal community of Doomadgee (which is in the neighbouring federal electorate to Mr Entsch’s Leichhardt). She was not required to declare her relationship with her MP husband during the grant application.
In this latest case, the volunteering grant recipients were picked by an independent panel via an expressions of interest process.
The Australian understands Mr Entsch did not reveal the alleged conflict of interest to the independent panel. He did not disclose it in the public announcement of recipients.
Later, during the acquittal process with the federal department, it is understood The Social Effect declared a perceived conflict of interest, but received the money anyway.
Just weeks after receiving the grant, The Social Effect suddenly cancelled its heavily promoted Radiance 2022 event, for which women could pay $150-a-ticket for a day of female speakers and workshops at the Shangri-La at the Cairns Marina on February 11, 2022.
The Social Effect’s website is now defunct, and it has not made any public announcements since the cancellation.

Who knows, it hasn't hit the papers yet, but her fiance at the time is up to his eyeballs in it.
Maybe someone will start and look into his background?
It would be interesting if one of your past flirtations became agrieved and decided the night in the panel van at Smiths beach was different to your memories.
Like it or not, you can't have a justice system built on a guilty unless you can prove your innocent, you couldn't build enough jails.
She was an intelligent lady who said she was raped, she wasn't in a third world country, she was in Parliament house, she said she woke up with him raping her, why wouldn't she say something to the guards at the time, why didn't she say something to the guard that came in later, why didn't she say something in the morning when there would have been evidence, why didn't she go to a doctor to obtain proof, it was rape, she wasn't stupid.
I'M not saying she wasn't raped, but by her actions following the alleged rape, it leaves a lot more questions than answers from a highly intelligent professional high functioning public servant.

IT doesn't sound logical on many fronts.

From an Aussie workers perspective reading the media.
Office party, everyone has a beano, two go back to the office both walking.
A year later it is a rape case, the working taxpayer has forked out a couple of million for one of the people, who has also got a book deal and one would guess money for a TV appearance.
Now we have the other participant, that no doubt the working taxpayer is going to have to stump up money for some form of compensation, for him not working for a couple of years and he has also been given media deals for sex workers and whatever else.
Let's not lose sight of the fact the case was abandoned, so no verdict.

If it was a lady and bloke working down at Bunnings, how much would that have cost the taxpayer, especially if there wasn't even a verdict?
Or are only public servants worth a couple of million dollars for a claim?

IMO there is only one person who has been taken to the cleaners and they are the only ones still working, as usual these days.

The real issue as I see it isn't about the details of the case or even the broader issues of respect, consent and so on.

It's that right now in Australia we have a housing crisis, we have a cost of living problem, we're in recession on a per capita basis (the only basis that matters to most), we've got building companies collapsing all over the place and now it seems major manufacturing company Qenos is about to call it it quits in Australia.

Meanwhile I keep hearing about government itself, including its employees, not being able to get their own house in order.

No private business, or a government owned corporation for that matter, would stand for this level of distraction. No chance.

Solution - given the nature of the building, comprehensive CCTV throughout, including in politician's offices, wouldn't be at all inappropriate. Plenty of ordinary workers are subject to it after all. :2twocents

My point was meant to be that he has been charged with doing the same again to another women i.e. having sex after the woman has passed out, something I wouldn't expect from anyone here.

I wouldn't expect that from anyone, anywhere, let alone here.

My point was both, parties behaved appallingly and as usual these days they are likely to be paid off with taxpayers money, because it isn't seen as the result of someones efforts it is only seen as a bottomless pit of money, to be dipped into with little to no respect.

Or are you implying that every person who claims rape, should get an automatic taxpayer payment, as compensation and if not, why not?

The other thing you seem to be implying, is every person accused of rape is guilty until proven innocent, which may possibly happen, as it would then save court time and justify an automatic compensation payment, sounds like a good cause.

The taxpayer is paying because of how badly her employer handled it. If it happened at my work it would have been treated seriously,

When the girl went to the minister it should have been referred to the police, The man involved interviewed by HR. It could have been done quietly.
She went to the minister because she was loyal. It wasn't reciprocated.
https://www.canberratimes.com.au/st...brittany-higgins-after-allegation-court-told/

I know you say in your day the girl should just suck it up, and everyone would just pretend it didn't happen. I am wondering did this actually happen where you worked?

Why do you say her behaviour as appalling? If it happened to your daughter. I bet you would have been furious. Have a hard look at yourself.

That is just a slanderous outrageous post, if it happened to my daughter I would be furious, and I would have taken it straight to the police.
Which she didn't, or she didn't mention it to her family, or her family didn't mention it to the police.

You seem to have all the answers, maybe you could enlighten us.
IF it happened there should be a retrail, in the public interest and if he did it, he should be put in jail, simple.

It's appalling that two people who behaved badly have and likely will be rewarded, with taxpayers money.

Didn't the minister just sue Higgins for what you are claiming the minister did?
You appear to be letting yoir emmotions and obvious bias cloud your judgement, as often happens these days.
When have I said the girl should just suck it up?
When have I said pretend it didn't happen?

That's what you lot are saying by paying out money and saying now run along and say nothing about it.
