1. can I suggest a motto ?
Aut dosce, aut disce, aut discede
oopsum aut postum poetrium aut songum lyricum..
Translation: "Either teach, or study, or leave." Inscription in St. Paul's School according to the Diaries of Samuel Pepys.
2. Here's one for the punters around here as well :-
Ave cæsar! Tradum te salutant!
Translation: "Hail Cæsar! Those who are trade salute you!" - Said by gladiators before they fought.
3. And another for the punters:-
Adde parvum parvo magnus acervus erit.
Translation: "Add little to little and there will be a big pile"
(adding pavlovas on pavlovas makes a serious mess.?)
4. PS Next time anyone wants to have a go at someone else, I suggest you try it in Latin..
- hell if you can't find it in the latin quote dictionary, then make it up
5. finally a quiz:-
Abusus non tollit usum (?)
Translation: ? which is the correct answer :- multiple choice:-
a) "use the toilet, don't abuse it" - sign found on wall of toilet in Pompeii
b) "using an abacus is not as good as using a till" - quote found on wall of chinese restaurant whilst Julius Caesar was travelling on Xmas holidays
c) "Abuse is no argument against proper use", legal phrase meaning that just because something can be abused there is no reason for putting an end to its legitimate use
I would hasten to add that recent events would not constitute abuse in my humble opinion, just "dedicatum postum outpourum” . (which is obviously one I made up , means "the dedicated outpourings of posters".)
