Well is there anyone else out there today feeling a bit sorry for themselves because they find themselves alone today when everyone else is getting festive?

Well in my case I had Christmas dinner with my kids, girlfriend and her family last night and after present opening this morning, had to promptly return the kids to their mother leaving me to my lonesome self for the remainder of the day.

Although I have had a celebration already, it still feels awfully lonely here today.

Don't worry about it. I am alone too. Some present giving last night and cake etc.
Today is work and normality.

anyhow just get off your lonely chair, get in the car and go visit somebody...
Got a BBQ pack - pull up at a park where people are cooking and say "mind if I use this" away you go

Well, we had a family party today, but it felt somewhat uninspired - and now I'm left feeling quite sad!

Although I don't quite like my mother, I must say I am feeling some empathy towards her today. A lot of effort was put into the Christmas lunch, and hardly anything was touched. There's an entire leg of harm in the fridge now, as well as a turkey! None of the glasses touched, the Christmas crackers are all un-cracked - and there just wasn't anything resembling cheer today.


Perhaps it's just a case of the event (Christmas) not meeting the excitement of the anticipation, and if so - I'm still OK with that. I never want to lose that excitement, because it's given me much happiness over this past month, even though today was somewhat mediocre! My girlfriend has a name for this feeling, the "Sunday sads"


On another topic - has anyone noticed the lack of Christmas spirit this year? Very few Christmas TV programs on, and why was the Toronto parade on so early today? I realise it's just a re-run, but I love watching that each Christmas morning, and today I missed it! We also had a bunch of rather expensive decorations stolen last week as well, just awful.

Bah, I should have gone to the Carols by candlelight last night in the city, instead I was working


It's times like this I wish I believed in religion - it was just so lovely seeing all the Christians at their church last night (on one of my evening walks), just so wholesome, and all just a part of something together

* One year, perhaps next - I hope to put the spirit of the season ahead of my need for financial gain Perhaps I need 3 ghosts to visit me.

Just got home from work and I'm alone at the moment unless you count the cat and some fish. I'll be going to see mum soon though so I'd better wrap her present up and get going.

Christmas can be a very lonely time of year for many. Also I've seen plenty of sad and lonely people on New Year's Eve in the past too whilst everyone else is celebrating.

The stories above make me feel sad and grateful for what I've got.

I've had some Christmases like the above.

Not any more though thanks to the gods.

Keep your spirits up. Get involved with people. Volunteer. Meditate. Drink alcohol. Smoke a good cigar. Whether you make heaps of money or end up bust keep your humanity.

Was just me and the dad today. Loneliest chrissy in a while.

The roast duck was great though.
 
I know how you all feel, it's so true that you can be lonely surrounded by people in a big city and it's never more true than at Christmas.

I think it's because you imagine everyone else has loads of friends and family but thats not the case with thousands of people.

I think we all should wear name tags ALL YEAR, to humanise everyone I think it would work.

In the meantine try to enjoy this time, have a drink watch a movie, get ready for another 12 months of blindingly wrong economic predictions from our leaders and their experts.

This would have to be the lonliest Christmas day I have ever had but there are lots of other days too so just another day for some strange reason.The family (new in-law addition) got together in W.A. last month and that was wholesome.

I think Christmas is the time when whatever our situation is, the emotions surrounding it are heightened. People who have large, happy families enjoy it immensely, but those who are alone feel more isolated than on any other day.

I've spent two Christmas Days alone in my life and - despite my firm self talk that "it's just another day" etc - they were pretty miserable.

Since then every Christmas I check with all the people I know who live alone that they have been invited out somewhere. Other families are usually more than willing to include lonely people in their gatherings but often just don't think about it.

The charities do a great job of providing a meal and somewhere to go on Christmas Day, but I suspect a lot of people just wouldn't feel OK about going to that sort of function. A kind of admission that you have no one who cares about you, or something.

More families are split these days. Difficult for the kids too, spending some of the time with each parent.

As I think Nyden said, anyone feeling less than cheerful at Christmas usually imagines everyone else is participating in unmitigated joy. Almost certainly not, in reality.

Considering the pre-Christmas stress, the spending of money which has to be actually paid up when the January credit card statement arrives, and the frequent quarrels over too much alcohol on Christmas Day itself, I don't think it would be all that hard to make a case for wiping it off the calendar.
Or perhaps that's just too radical?
 
Can't say I was alone! My four kids ran in at 5am and jumped on me and hubby and announced that "Santa has been here!". The day just got better and better as we met up with more and more relatives.

Our church service was outside last night, followed by our local Christmas Eve fireworks. Just a fantastic night too!

Merry Christmas to everyone! I have enjoyed being a member of this site ever since I have joined, and thoroughly enjoy my imaginary friends here!
 

Ouch, I can feel the salt that wasn't too gracefully, rubbed into the wounds of some of these guys!
 

Once upon a time Xmas was looked forward to with great anticipation, especially for the young. For my grandchildren and their peers Xmas comes every time they want it throughout the year.

Sorry to hear some people are lonely on these days. No wonder you live on AFS!

Just for the record - I spent yesterday and will this week with my daugther and puppy Kimba. Just the three of us, well she was playing with the pup most of the day. I actually like being alone on these days - as mentioned we don't celebrate Christmas so the kids don't get presents and don't mind.

My son and partner (not engaged) were out.

So alone yes but lonely no. I was reading in the sun with a drink and water.

Try to get some sun - if it is shining can make all the difference
