Real Life vs. Perception

On his money , neither would I.

But I think he is symptomatic of a sick society that is breeding a generation of entitled shiteheads who don't give a stuff about what people think and believe that their opinions are the only ones that matter and that mediocrity of skill can be replaced by superficial appearance and sucking up to whoever happens to have some control over their career path.

Dumbing down, down deeper and down.

I like Karl. He's got the best sense of fun. Always cracking up. He doesn't give too much of sh1te what anyone thinks.
I think that Karl Sefanovic is the biggest tosser on Australian TV.
I watch "Sunrise" because I can't stand to watch "Today". Even if I flick channels and catch a glimpse of that stupid grin, it just grates me.

It's his self assuredness that irks people. The more self assured, the more money or maybe vice versa.

Funny thing about perception vs reality in the Karl / Lisa context is when Lisa resigns the media start the ignorati descend about equal pay which then gets blown out of all proportion by the hashtag fraternity...

Then a different story comes out, like today, when it's reported Lisa demanded $300K more than Karl which would have put 10 coworkers out of work and be nothing about equality at all.

It reminds me of the tennis equal-prize-money-for-women debate some time back.

Never mind that women play a maximum of 3 sets instead of 5 :)

It was a Wednesday afternoon when I walked into Starbucks that day nearly six years ago. I stood at the bar, waiting for my drink, when the barista politely asked me what I was up to that day. As it turns out, I was en route to the airport at that moment…about to catch a flight to Italy with my husband. After a brief minute of chatting, the barista handed me my coffee and wished me a nice trip. “But then again”, she said “why wouldn’t you…your life is golden!”

She is imperfect, as we all are, and not everything goes the way she would want but her life is one that many desire. A top photographer who can get her essays published and able to fly to Italy for her anniversary. The line, "Honestly what I am going to tell my barista says it all"". She leads a blessed life.
She acknowledges this with the comment, none of this makes my life less golden. She reminds me of my cousin in law who lives a similar amazing life.

I'm doing OK though. Had our apricot poodle puppies first haircut yesterday. She looks so scrawny now.

I just watch ABC Breakfast. Less glitz, too much entertainment stuff for my liking, but something different from the commercials.

We need a fourth source...something serious news/magazine, but without the brain washing agenda of the ABC's anti white anglo male hate.

The ABC appeared to be far more respected in the early days when the news and current affairs presenters appeared on the screen as highly intelligent, apolitical, authoritative senior citizens.

Then again, the fact that is was all black and white could've added to the above perceptions...

Yeah, even junior sports reporters just out of school have an opinion these days.

No idea whi the lady is who wrote this, but I shared it on my FB a couple of years ago.... It struck a cord:

Good story Wayne ...... When it all boils down to it we are all just actors in our own story I guess. For those of us who are fortunate to have either friends or family who are willing to share our "story" up close and personal, regardless of how ugly the "demons" get ...... we are the lucky ones:cool: PS Of course I don't have any demons because I'm perfect in every way and my wife is lucky to have me ... cough cougho_O:confused:

You got a lot of likes for that post - I don't get it. Not caring what other people think of you is different to not caring about people. Not caring what people think of you is a truly amazing achievement nowadays. As is his infectious happiness - the guy just does not stop laughing. I don't view him as entitled or a suck at all. If he's dumb, as you claim, so what? It's light entertainment only.

I can only go on the few snippets I see on screen in the morning. I don't know anything about the guy really, or his personal life. He has a genuinely bright vibe about him which I find uplifting, that's all (no homo). I would love to be able to get that amount of enjoyment and fun out of life. He is having a blast no matter what is going on.

To each their own. I prefer journos like his predecessor Steve Liebman who worked their way up through the various journo training areas like radio talk back where they get to know what is actually happening in the community rather than starting on the ivory tower of TV.

Anyway, I don't like him so I don't watch him.

I reckon they should put Paul Henry on - the Sheila Diksheet dude. He's a crackup and apparently quite evil going off all the perceptions from the PC brigade :D

I can see merit in a journo who will do that, but the real news is all negative. The world is so terribly messed up, I can't stomach too much serious journalism. Serious positive journalism I enjoy, but that never makes the news.

You're indicating Karl just sails through life, which maybe is true. Isn't that a good thing? Going with the flow? Success without the heavy, serious grind?

If all he did was give light hearted commentary to social media chit chat, I don't think anyone would mind him, or any other morning t.v time filling chit chat show host.
The problem is, they do have an impressionable audience, and they do push their personal moral and political agendas.
It also isn't isolated to morning t.v, it is rampant through all forms of media.
The problem with this is, it isn't well researched information, it is mostly personal opinion.
This in turn influences the public's opinion and perspective, they should keep their opinions balanced and objective, if they want to use their position as a stage to present a political or moral issue.
The are getting paid a ridiculous amount of money, it should be reflected by carrying out their jobs in a professional and responsible manner. Just my opinion.

And how representative is that of the normal viewer, trudging off to work on the train or in the traffic jam ?

I don't think most people mind genuinely earned successful people, but I don't think Karl falls into that category, success and riches came too easily for him.

I must be tuning out when that happens. I don't watch all that closely - it's on in the background.

I have noticed it elsewhere though. Chanel 7(?) has an afternoom news program which involves anything but news. They have D-grade celebs give their opinions on whether parents should wear their pyjamas when they drop the kids off to school. ******* hell that sort of thing sh1ts me. So I know what you mean.

The Drum on ABC perhaps ? ;)
